Barbara Walters Uses The N-Word During The View, Chaos Ensues As Sherri Gets Offended

| Filed under: TV NewsBarbara WaltersWhoopi Goldberg

It's an age old argument, one that has been debated upon for many, many years. We're actually a little surprised that this might be the first time this topic has come up on The View. Then again, we're more surprised to have heard seen Barbara Walters so effortlessly turned the phrase.

The hot topic today - The N-Word. We know we all shouldn't use it, yet its still a colloquialism heard frequently. Granted, its mainly only heard in rap songs and stand-up comedy, but its also only seems expectable to use it if you are a certain race. Today, both Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters used the full version of the n-word when talking about the Herman Cain's/Rick Perry scandal. Sherri Shepherd quickly interjected after Barbara spoke, exclaiming that Bab's way of saying it had a "different connotation" than Whoopi's. Things exploded from there.

Check out the video (above) to hear the panel get very heated over the topic and usage of the word. Personally, we'd like to see the word fade into nonexistence from everyone's vocabulary. But we also agree with Whoopi in that we shouldn't act like it never existed either. In fact, we agreed with a lot of the stuff Whoopi was saying.

What do U think? Did it bother U that Barbara said the full N-word?

Ya know what…Sherri Shepard is a bimbo…and I have resented her presence on this show since she was added to it. As an African American woman, I am disgusted with her…as for Bab's use of the word , the issue is all about the context in which it was used.hate the View…hate it… Get Star and Merideth and Lisa Ling Back, then maybe we would have something legit to talk about!!!!

  2. 2

I am a white female and absolutely HATE the c-word. It is only ever used in a very negative connotation and in derogitory terms. I wish that word too was expunged from the English language but it ain't gonna happen as long as we as a people continue to disrespect each other.

  3. 3

There is nothing classy or acceptable in ANYBODY saying that word. Black, white, girl, boy, just don't say it. Anytime I hear a black person say it, I just think "You sound so trashy and ignorant." Just as digusting as a white person saying it.

  4. 4

barbara can't help herself. she's a white woman who grew up in a different era, and I am sure the word rolled off the tongues of her contemporaries with the greatest of ease when amongst one another. re: the "n" word, feeble minded people who are bred of ignorance use the word with the sole purpose of hurting the individual for whom the word is used. i'd dare say it is a sort of weapon, not just a slur, that not only serves to hurt, but also to remind anyone who uses the word that they ARE in fact superior, and that no matter the gains that black people make in this world, they are still the "n" word. people who use the word are scared of the potential and capabilities of black people…

  5. 5

    It wasn't that serious fuckface………..
Re: linwoo – You are an idiot……. I got what Sherri was saying and thinking.

  6. 6

It is not ok for anyone to say that word! I am really confused by something though - in this day and age, where young people really don't see the color difference, why do black kids keep referring to each other by that word in front of white kids and then get upset when white kids repeat the word? It's all over television and the radio. Either everyone stop saying it, or stop worrying about it altogether!

  7. Heh says – reply to this

It bothers me that anyone in 2011 is using this word but it especially bothers me when Barbara says it because she is from the era when that was acceptable so you really dont know where she's coming from with that but its not her fault because we still hear this word daily..Everyone needs to stop using that word NOW! these rappers dont realize that even though they are rich and have made it they are still that word to many people as long as they continue to use it, no matter how they try to justify it it will never be looked at as a positive word that is delusional …it is what it is and it means what it means

  8. 8

If one person is allowed to say it, everyone should be. I have never heard of a word that one group is allowed to say but not another. Ridiculous; changes need to be made on both sides

  9. 9

Re: ElleFromVan – Not that this has much relevance but you know in NZ and parts of the UK c*** is actually a term of endearment, and used as a way of speaking of a friend or chum. I lived with a few Kiwi girls and they used it and I was shocked and they thought it was the funniest thing….I hate it too though.

  10. 10

sheri is an idiot. haha. she rally needs to get a brain. she should have flat out said: i don't like when you say it because you are white and it connotes white supremacy and it reminds me of back in the day. not "i can't help the way i feel" well fuck sherri, if everyone said that to complex social systems we would get NO WHERE!
she's not good for the show. she's kinda dumb. she's making the situation worse.

  11. 11

Whatever, get over it. Theres no difference between when Whoopi says it and when Barbara says it. What? did it come out different because Barbara is white? isn't that a little racist?? N-word or no N-word sherri shepard gets offended over everything in regards to the african american race. Thankfully Whoopi is on the show to hold it down and look at things as a whole and not just in racial terms like Sherri. Barbara is an educated, professional tv caster wo is more than qualified to weight in on her "view" no matter what topic it may be.

  12. 12

This debate is tiresome to me. There are plenty of racially/ethnically offensive words that are still used today, and that is just it, it is just a word! We have come a long way from when the "N-word" was used as a blanketed description of african americans and when Sherri has that response it brings us back to those days. The word is derogatory and it doesn't matter what race the person that saying it is. She just displays her ignorance in this clip. I am pretty sure Barbara Walters isn't a racist, nor does her inflection on the word make it any more or less offensive than Whoopi's.

  13. 13

I'm white and from the south and referred to a cracker my whole life. Am I offended no, and I'm not supposed to/allowed to be. It's time to get over the fact that words "offend you". Jeez, it's 2011, get the hell over it. You can't be offended by words unless you want to be. You can't be bullied unless you allow yourself to be. Everybody is too damned senstive. I've heard white ass cracker my entire life and it never once offended me. Have I used the "n" word once? No, cause I wasn't "allowed" to, for fear it would offend someone. But yet, I hear these same black people call themselves the "n" word right and left. Get real!

  14. 14

It's pretty ridiculous that Sherri Shepherd gets offended by the word yet admits to using it herself. If black people, or anyone in general, wants this word to not be used anymore then you shouldn't say it yourself. It shouldn't be a "Oh I can say it because I'm black and you're not" attitude.

  15. 15

Can we be adults?? This is ridiculous. Barbara Walters wasn't calling anyone anything, she was simply using the word in relation to the story.

  16. 16

If Whoopie can say it, but Barbara cannot, isn't that a double standard?

  17. 17

It's JUST a word. Get OVER IT Sherri. And besides, we all know Barbara loves herself some chocolate men ;-)
I think no one should be allowed to say any racial slurs, EVER.
    Race cannot be changed.

  18. buck says – reply to this

these 'hens' are still on tv. who the hell watches this show besides old ladies and gay people.

  19. 19

    Sherr's a f work, n work, c word!

  20. 20

I am not a fan of the View and Sherri Shepard is one of the biggest reasons why. I don't find her to be terribly bright or interesting in the slightest. However, she stated how she felt which is suppose to be the point of this show, I suppose. Personally, I don't think Barbara said the word to hurt or offend Sherri, but she shouldn't have worked so hard to defend it afterwards or make Sherri feel as though she wasn't entitled to her feelings. A simple "I'm sorry if you were offended by the word Sherri, but I meant no malice. I was just reporting the story."
I am of mixed race. My father is Italian and my mom is Dominican. I grew up hearing my brothers say the word, because as Whoopi stated, the younger generation uses the word in a different context. Maybe somewhere along the line, people realized it wasn't going away and decided to try and remove the hatred and anger from the word. I am not saying I agree with it, but I can't speak for everyone because if you are not offended by the word, then you would not feel strongly about abolishing it. Besides, you can't abolish a word when people have freedom of speech. All you can do is not surround youself around ignorant individuals who would use such a word maliciously.

  21. Ast says – reply to this

I'm not American but still (especially as a caucasian) I stay away from this word and would never ever utter it on tv or anywhere public. and in a debate or conversation about it and its use and connotations I still don't see a point where I would actually have to say the word itself. As Barbara has always been the respectable reporter type one would think that she would know to circumvent the word, so she probably said it on purpose because she knew it would intensify the debate, ie. publicity and ratings.

  22. 22

so.. let me get this straight.. a white woman and a black woman said the "n" word and sherri or whatever jumps on the white woman because when she says it it means something different? What a dumb bitch.. some people just can't let the past be the past.. stop making race about fucking everything.. how do all these dumbass bitches have a job.. they're all equally annoying and their "views" are all over the top and judgmental if someone has a different opinion.. bunch of old buzzards squawking.. squawkity squawk squawk..

  23. 23

    Double standards are a bitch.

  24. 24

No it didn't offend me. Like Whoopi said, why pretend it's something it's not? We treat that word like the Harry Potter world treated "He Who Shall Not be Named" It may sound like a silly analogy… and it sounds that way because it is silly. Yes the n-word is a horrible word with a horrible meaning. But it exists and it is what is. Saying "N-word" doesn't make sense. Why would we have a substitution word? It's like a parent spelling out words so that their children can't hear them. The thing is… we all know exactly what the word means and we should just be upfront about it.

I would have said the actual word to make my point, but I think Perez censored my comment because I wrote it. So there you go!

  25. 25

Barbara Walters said this word just to get attention & ratings and it worked
no one should be allowed to use this word I don't care what your background is

  26. 26

Re: Sick_girl – As I have said, I don't have a strong stance on this issue because I know what I am and growing up mixed race did give me a thicker skin than most. However, there is a serious glitch in your agrument about how black people shouldn't get offended because they say it.
If you had a heated argument with your mother in the presence of your friend, and afterwards you walked out with your friend and stated "Damn, my mom can be so fucking annoying!" No harm done. However, if later that same friend said to you "YOUR mom can be so fucking annoying!" Chances are, you wouldn't react too nonchalantly. Basically, it's the unwritten rule of "I can say it because she's MY MOMMA!"

  27. 27

I think it is offensive to call someone weather you are black or white, but to use the word to refer to the topic is not offensive, it does exist. What I do find offensive is Sherri Shepard saying she uses it and that's ok, but Barbera using it in referance offends her. What a hypocrite.

  28. 28

Whoopi is not the spokes person for all black people, far from it. Although I do not have the stats of how many black women/men are in the US, Miss Walters having just two on her show with very different feelings about the word should be a sign that it's not as simple an issue as she may want it to be? And coming back from a commercial break and the black employee that had a different opinion than hers had to basically apologize was sickening. 'what I love about this show is that we love each other' blah blah blah.. Miss Walter's should apologize for using the word and not using the "N" word. For people to say, move on or get over it, is foolish. We still chastise people (and correctly so) for anti-Semitic comments or homophobic comments, right?

  29. 29

I understand Sherri having a particular reaction to a white person (especially someone she allegedly considers to be a friend) saying it, but I agree with Whoopi that it seems kind of ridiculous to stop saying it. This word is in the truth that is our nation's history. I feel that refusing to speak it in a reporting context is to ignore reality. To censor is to create a fantasy. Yes, most people know what is implied when someone says "the 'N' word." It's not a comfortable word for me to hear the word, but I'd rather experience reality than fantasy. I agree with Barbara that Sherri's desire to remove it from the lexicon of white people only serves to enforce the racial divide, as well. If it makes Sherri that uncomfortable, I think Barbara should refrain from using it around her, out of respect. However, I don't think Barbara was in the wrong.

  30. 30

Oh Sherri.. you've just made a total ass of yourself on national television! You sounded so ignorant when you stated "I don't like the way it sounds when you say it Barbara, it has a different connotation versus the way Whoopi says it". Please! Why couldn't you just be honest with Barbara, instead of dodging the question several times with your juvenile responses, you could have stated the honest truth - That it's ok for Whoopi to use the N word because she's black, it's not ok for Barbara because she's white, and that makes you feel uncomfortable! I guess Sherri was tongue tied when Barbara asked her what the difference was and why she was so offended, because if she had responded with the truth, then she would've sounded like the childish hypocrite that she is. Sherri believes the N word can be used by any black person in any way, shape, or form and anyone who is not black -cannot. Do I sense a little racism here Sherri?!

  31. 31

Give me a break. People are over sensitive. I understand that the term being directed to a person can seem insulting but I don't think there has to be a fuzz about it when it is used in reporting.

  32. 32

When it comes to race it's not how or why you say it but who says it.

  33. 33

I hate the N-word, I don't say it, but she used it because of the story, in the context of the story. Barbara didn't call anyone the N-word so I think it is being blown way out of proportion.

  34. 34

C'mon. Barbara Walters is part of the Leftist establishement that has made damn sure there are different rules for people who fall into protected, priviliged minority classes. She can't start bitching about it now.

  35. 35

I have been saying this for a LONG time! We will have a war, class war!!! The haves and the have nots!! Black have been able to say what ever and when ever! Just like Pez screaming out a gay slur when he wanted too…SORRY!!!! O please fuck all you liberal bullshit. Wasnt there a war were THOUSANDS of people died fighting the North against the South!! Did everybody have slave?? NO! So why is EVERYBODY clumped in there as ALL whites had slaves. This Country had the LEAST slaves as other countries and you dont hear this shit in other Countries. Only in America!! WHY is that?????????

  36. 36

the word itself is disgusting, disturbing, demeaning, small minded, ignorant and vile! why should anyone black or white want or need to continue to use it!
And it doesn't sound any more moral or palatable coming from a black person as they are trying to claim it does
vile words such as this, with such a terrible history need to be relegated to the history books as art of a part of a cruel, inhuman time in some countries past
they need to be allowed and encouraged to be dropped from our vernacualr

  37. 37

Re: ElleFromVan – I'm with you on this one, it's so vulgar.

  38. trace says – reply to this

Sherri Shepperd is stupid. its ok for black people to say it to each other. or refer to another black person as that. just drop it already

  39. Eilee says – reply to this

Ummmm I think Sherri is looking for a fight! Sherri is as dumb as a rock! hahahah lol

  40. 40

Morning Joe and many other news shows told the story without using the actual word. Saying the word is strictly for shock value. (As Whoopi said, 'I say it cause I know I'm not supposed to'). This also coming from a woman that was cool with her boyfriend at the time dressing in black face and calling her the 'N' word in public. I will nolonger DVR the View, Walters thought cause Whoopi used it, so can I, not so! And Whoopi, not coo eitherl!

  41. 41

I really don't understand what Ms. Sheri is flipping out about, the word no matter how you say it, whether you're black or white is OFFENSIVE! Black people shouldn't get a pass to say because they're black! A racial slur is just that A RACIAL SLUR!!!

  42. 42

Re: jeanmarie – It is. And there can't be any kind of intelligent dialogue without all the crap Sherri throws out. That woman wouldn't know white supremacy if it bit her in the ass; it's too bad time travel isn't possible so she can get a REAL taste of what "back in the day" was REALLY like. I find the whole race card thing ridiculous, tiresome, and stupid.

  43. 43

Re: Lanstrthemonstr – I know, my family is from the UK and I also have relatives that live in AU. You're right some of them do use it alot but don't mistake it…it is NOT a term of endearment…lol…they use it instead of using "motherfucker" which THEY find vulgar and we North Americans use all the time. My point is that the c-word AND the n-word are both used to debase a segment of society, namely women and black people. If black people want to use the n-word and it empowers them, fine but women who use the c-word just have no class. Call me a "fuckin' bitch" I'll get the point!

  44. 44

i am a 54 year old white woman from detroit, when i was 6 yrs. old i came home from school and and used the n word. my mother asked me if i knew what it meant, of course i did'nt, she made me look it up in the dictionary. the dictionary said ,it was a person who lives like a pig. nothing about color!!!!!

  45. 45

fuck you sherri you are a racist piece of shit

  46. 46

Well, to step away from 'The N-Word' for moment…Anyone who takes offense to any word should understand that although they may have a strong subjective and emotional connection to a particular word, there will be those that use that same word in an objective factual manner. There are no clear right or wrongs. It's all about context. P.S. Sherri is by no means a thinker.

  47. 47

If you're white you're a racist. If you're straight you're a homophobe! If you're western then you hate muslims, if you're a muslim you want to blow everything up. The world needs to get an effin grip.

  48. 48

    Re: linwoo – amen

  49. 49

This Country had the LEAST slaves as other countries and you dont hear this shit in other Countries. Only in America!! WHY is that?????????

  50. 50

Sheri acted very unprofessional. Who cares about her feelings when it's about the news.

  51. 51

Barbara is so old she probably forgot she said it right after she said it. I agree with Whoopi.

  52. 52

If you someone is offended by a word that in its self has a history of being offensive, you apologize, don’t use the word anymore and move on. No need to get so deep in the definition of the 'N' word. It's NEVER been about the definition, it's about the HISTORY of the word and the past/present/future INTENT behind its usage.

  53. 53

At the end of the day all this proves is that white people will never understand why Black people get upset over slavery (it happened a zilllion years ago right??), the N word, the need for affirmative action, the request and denial of aparations etc. WE ARE DIFFERENT and no matter how nice a white person is to you MOST of them wll NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER fully recognize your struggle. It is not becuase they can't it is because they usually don't want to because it makes them feel guilty. Oh well.

  54. 54

I don't believe anyone should feel comfortable saying the N word and especially Barbara Walters. What was she thinking??!

  55. 55

ultimately, we give the power behind words. it's ppl like sherri who give too much power to the word. yes, she shld have been honest and said: "it's okay for whoopi to say it bc she is black, and it's not ok for you to say it bc you are white"

that's just the way she feels. that's how a lot of ppl feel. the moment you take the power away from the word, is the moment it can't hurt anymore.

sherri is the one giving the n word that much power- to offend her. it's sad.

  56. 56

if sherri shepard doesnt know that the world is round and not flat how can anything she says be taken seriously…. how ignorant can she get?

  57. 57

sherri sheppard is the stupidest woman on tv today. lets not forget that this woman thought the world was flat only until the ladies had to correct her. she is literally stupid and does an injustice to middle aged brown women by representing the demographic. i'd rather they bring back star jones….coz she may be a bitch…but she at least shes a bitch with a brain.

  58. 58

Sherri still thinks the Earth is flat, why is she on TV.

  59. 59

Re: realwoman123 – REALLY!! That is a good one!! Why should EVERY white understand it when you dont know nothing about history!!
Did you know there was a war between the north & south that fought against slavery?? THOUSANDS of people died in this war!! Should EVERYBODY feel there pain(not yours) for slavery??? Not EVERYBODY had slaves!! Millions of Jews died and they are not crying everyday like the blacks!! I bet you feel NOTHING for the Jews!! You were NOT experimented on or your children!!!

  60. 60

REALLY!!

  61. 61

Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters get on my nerves.

  62. 62

Sherri is beyond ignorant. I mean she was acting just plain stupid.

  63. 63

Are these people serious right now? IT IS A WORD. I find it extremely racist of Sherri to think that it's okay for Whoopi to say it, but not Barbara. All people can speak, and a word should not have VIP access. Don't erase it, just erase the hate. How is this difficult?

  64. 64

Re: KarrieBelle – Your probably right that I wouldn't want someone to call my mother a bitch. But the difference is that the n-word doesn't just bother 1 person, it bothers millions of people.
Also, Sheri Shepard wasn't upset that Whoopi was saying the word because she is black. I wouldn't want anyone calling my mom a bitch, I'm not going to pick and choose who gets to call her names. NOBODY DOES! Just like NOBODY should be using the n-word no matter who you are.

  65. 65

this is why the view is the best! They're all bat shit crazy and awesome at the same time! there's a great podcast that talks about this it's called: Brian Tells John About The View and is on iTunes!

  66. 66

Sherri is a dumb ass, Babs is a reporter and a professional.

  67. 67

I would rather Barbara Walters use the word in this kind of context, than a pedophile, rapist and racist supporter like Whoopi Goldberg use it anytime - anywhere. And that's the irony of it all, because it's essentially about racism, and if all Sherri Shephard cares about in this context is your ethnicity and skin colour - and not the context nor the individual - then doesn't that make it racist too? That said, I do understand why this subject is so sensitive, and I sympathise. But, no matter how uncomfortable it is, the context does matter, and solely focusing on ethnicity is counterintuitive and defeats its own purpose.

  68. 68

as a black 23 year old female, shut the hell up Sherri. I don't like the word period I don't care if a black or white person says it. Barbara was reporting it, so why is that stirring up emotions?.I think Sheeri is ignorant. I agree with Whoppi. I won't act like it doesn't exisit but I don't feel the need to say it.

  69. 69

Whoppi used the word repeatedly with no objection from Sherri. Barbara used it once and was attacked by Sherri for using it. In other words, a black person can use the word but not a white person. How ludicrous!!!! Sherri is the racist, not Barbara. Everyone should be treated equal. If it's ok for Whoppi, it should be ok for Barbara.

  70. 70

O Please!! It wouldnt take much to see the hood come out of Sherri!! There is NO changing that woman because she is a n*gger!! There are LOTS of black that dont get offend by that word because they are usually educated blacks!!!

  71. 71

    Re: Yenkme – Stop screaming.

  72. 72

Re: Everything popular is wrong. – Ok! I will whisper! Thx!

  73. 73

Re: Zja Zja – they'll stay that way as long as they continue to classify themselves as that word.

  74. Laura says – reply to this

babs shouldn't say it, yes, period. but Sherri Shepard is an idiot who really doesn't know why she's upset. she knows that she's supposed to be, but she doesn't understand the reasons why. Sherri Shepard is a fucking idiot. Millions of people watch this show, blacks need a better representation than her dumbass, its embarrassing.

  75. 75

Sherri's comment towards Barbara is ignorant. Wether you are black, white, pink, or purple, using the n-word makes you sound trashy, classless, and uneducated. Barbara did not say it in an offensive way, and Sherri was being over dramatic and childish. If you want people to stop using a word, stop saying it yourself. However, until the day come where black people decide to eliminate that word from their culture, it will be used forever.

  76. 76

Honestly, like Whooppi and Barbara said, it is part of history and no one is trying to get rid of the word, but we're in a different era, and people use it so casually nowadays, that no one really thinks about its past. I think the more we hold on to its history, the more segregation we'll have.

  77. 77

After watching the entire clip and reading most of the comments below I'm completely confused as to all the fuss. I'm from Scotland in the UK.

We don't use the "N" word and it certainly isn't something we talk about. I find it interesting to watch Americans debate who can and cannot say a word. Is it okay for people of a black background to use this word but not for white people, correct me if i'm wrong but Barbra has a slight lisp but she said the same word as Whoopi and it sounded the same to me!!

I find the victimization and constant casting up of history and memories of the past just annoying, the last time I looked your president was black!! For Sherri to sit there and say that she personally uses the word, then she has no right to tell Barbra she can't! No one was trying to be rude or insult anyone, basically it was a ridiculous over reaction!

  78. 78

Re: kallengirl – I 100% agree! You see it on TV and in movies all the time with black people calling white people "stupid cracker" or " that's the whitest thing I've ever heard/seen". Could you imagine the outcry if the roles where reversed?

  79. 79

I cant get over how stupid Sherri is, how did she get this high paying job?
She uses this word as a term of endearment, Babs does her job as a reporter and Sherri uses it as a moment to talk about herself…again.

  80. 80

The biggest problem I see is, if a word is considered offensive - then it shouldn't matter what color of a person says it. Offensive is offensive. If you think one color can say it for whatever reason but another can't, then you are all a bunch of hypocrites. For years many people have fought for equality, and every time someone says "it's OUR thing" you set it back. If we are one people, then we have t have the similar values, not the same, but similar. If you don't want people using an offensive word around you, then you shouldn't use it yourself.

As a white woman I will never truly understand how that word makes black people feel, but coming from a family where it was used I have chosen to teach my children differently. I do not say it and never have i also don't use alot of other words that hurt people and those words are not used around my children. My daughter came home from school during black history month and wanted to know what "N word" was, the teacher was not aloud to explain it to them after reading it in a book. I did explain it so she would understand. If Barbara was heard saying it in normal conversation I would understand and agree, but come on!!

  82. 82

When Sherri went on the rant of how Barbra cant use the world, i felt right there, that THATS the definition of racism!
Racism is one race discriminating against another, and Sherri clearly said she only likes black people saying it and not white people, racism right there!

And the age old excuse of ”what our grandfathers had to suffer” is long gone, that generation of people is over, the racists and the victims, its all in the past, if everyone was to hate another person for what there 'grandfathers done to there grandfathers' then everyone will have a reason to despise each other somewhere back in time, and thats just ridiculous!

I will never say the n word because i dont curse, i dont use any bad words and never have, but thats just my view!

Id love to see them have an argument against the 'straights' using the word GAY??
Because this is the main racism of our generation, this is the thing thats getting people killed and beat and bring misery and discrimination into peoples lives all over the world young and old! :/

    =) =) =)

  83. 83

That was the dumbest type of justification I have ever heard. The term is just plain derogatory and even when black people use it again each other, it's as bad as black on black crime. Point. Blank. Period. Don't use the word at ALL!

  84. 84

Sherri Shepard just makes herself look like a closet racist. It doesn't matter if Whoopi says N***** but i have a problem if this white woman says the same damn word.. Black people like that are one of the main reasons of why there is still segregation. If you don't like the fkn word, then it shouldn't matter whose mouth it's coming out of. Oh your black so it's cool but not that white bitch..

  85. 85

Re: sohaveiforyou83 – Well if it makes her so damn uncomfortable then she should not say it herself.

  86. 86

Re: brwneyedgirl – How about I just call you a stupid fucking white whore? OMG, I see it on tv all the time……OK, you're a stupid white cock sucking whore, and wait…..so is your Mom and Grandmother, white fucking whores

  87. 87

Sherry is the reason i don't watch the show. She came off ignorant and racist. Sick of her.

  88. 88

Sherri S playing the race card for show. Stupid ass.

  89. 89

    waht the fuck is expectable?

Regardless as to who says it, I just find the word itself to be disrespectful. Any word that has been used as a racial slur should never be said, regardless of the context. There are so many other ways to describe something, why use words that have such bad history?? I would like to think that society is better than that today, and for those people that think it is 'cool' to use it, it is just so crass to hear. Say what you want in the privacy of your own home, but respect other people around you who may take offense. That is all.

  91. 91

Re: kallengirl – I completely agree with you! I’m Black and I will never understand how Blacks use that word towards each other but get offended when other races use it. Even more disturbing, there are certain people that apparently get a “pass” to use the N-word; like Hispanics and “hood” White dudes. Smh. It’s stupid and I will never get it.

Sherri waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overeacted on this today. For her to act like Barbara personally called her the "N" word was way out of line. I don't like that word, and no one should use it, unless it is being used in a discussion (like it was) or a historical script or novel. Sherri acted like a maniac and she be ashamed of embarrassing her boss that way.

  93. 93

I don't like the word either, but am I the only person to have had a difficult time reading the post due to the terrible grammar, spelling, and punctuation? Hire an editor.

  94. 94

F*ck Sherri Shephard. It is racist that she thinks white people cannot use the word but black people can. If there was a white person saying that only white people could use a word someone would get fired. Racism still exists not b/c of white people but b/c of black people. No one should say the word b/c it's offensive to some…but it's just a word. It only has power b/c people give it its power.

  95. 95

If everyone would email ABC and let them know that there is an apology expected it would be a great step in ending racism.

  96. 96

Re: kallengirl – Ignorance is truly bliss. Do you think that because someone calls you a cracker you have the right to be offended?? What does it mean to be a cracker? It's something that is white and salty. There is NO type of derogatory history behind the word cracker, neither is there with the word honky. These words mean nothing. While they are meant to hurt white people, they really do not because that word was not used to oppress white people. Nor have white people ever been oppressed.
Secondly, who are you to say what words should and should not offend people. You are not black so you do not know what types of feelings the N-word stirs up in us… specifically when people who are not black us that word to assert their power over us and make us feel incompetent, dumb, worthless etc. Black people don't walk around calling other black people the N-word with the ER on the end. They use the other slang word with the A. It is used as a term of endearment. I do not agree with black people embracing such a word, but it happens. That still does not give other races/cultures the right to use that word, because of its history.
    That is all!

  97. 97

Sherri Shepherd… don't get me started!! ~ Isn't she the moron who back in '07 actually admitted to believing that the world was flat?… like her head?? … ’nuff said, I rest my case!

  98. 98

That ridiculously idiotic fat woman just did what she was asking Barbara not to do. She used the terms "wop" and "Jew him down". I remember a few years ago when she didn't know that the earth was round. What a fat sack of shit she is! These people that are hand fed money and celebrity who still have a chip on their should be shot. She needs to just be thankful that the US is filled with ignorant people that are willing to listen to her rant about issues that she has no idea about.

  99. 99

Why don't we all just not say it?

  100. 100

I understand what Sherri is talking about. I know she didnt mean any harm, but us as blacks can say this word, but let a white person say it….O child watch out.
