Gay Couple Beaten By Church Leaders; Attack Instigated By One Of Their Dads!!

No words. We don't even know how to process this.

A gay Tennessee couple was beaten by church leaders this past week after trying to attend services at the Grace Fellowship Church.

What's more mind-boggling is that one of the attackers was one of their fathers. In fact, he even instigated the assault.

Jerry Pittman, Jr. says that when he and his boyfriend Dustin Lee arrived to the church, this happened:

"I went over to take the keys out of the ignition and all the sudden I hear someone say 'sic 'em!'

My uncle and two other deacons came over to the car per my dad's request. My uncle smashed me in the door as the other deacon knocked my boyfriend back so he couldn't help me, punching him in his face and his chest. The other deacon came and hit me through my car window in my back."

No bystanders came to their aid during the attack.

Charges have since been filed against deacons Billy Sims, Eugene McCoy, Patrick Flatt, and Jerry Pittman, Sr.

Wow. So, so heartbreaking.

    Ha ha

This is horrible, isn't Church supposed to be a place of worship and respect and love for God? I'm not religious, but last time I checked being a good Christian meant loving and accepting your fellow man, not beating the shit out of them. If they really didn't want them there they could have just asked them to leave… bad publicity was coming anyways.

lol, best post you've made all day Mario!

  4. 4

Unbelievable & sickening. I hope those assault charges come with heavy punishment.

  5. 5

    Primitive people, so sad

  6. 6

I think we should ban religious people from getting married. They seem to be the worst of the worst.

  7. 7

makes me sick…I saw a quote today that spoke volumes to me…"If that fetus you saved was gay, would you still fight for it's rights?"

  8. 8

One of the men's father is the church's pastor

  9. 9

well guess it's the word of God speaking to them, so this must be OKAY……this is the world our young kids are living in. bullying, suicides, bashing—not really a surprise when you hear about these incidents! the things people do in the name of religion is sickening.

  10. 10

They both knew they were not welcome at church, but the decided to go ahead and
force their lifestyl on people who did not want any part of this

If your told, this is private property, this is a religious group, that does not want you,
Than use your head, stay away

  11. 11

OMG, these people are so fucking disgusting! :O

  12. 12

Mario, I know what happened is terrible, and I would be the last person to blame the victim, but these men knew that they would likely be walking into "enemy territory." They had to know what to expect and decided to go anyway. This is not to dismiss courageous acts, but this was less about Ghandi tech and more about "suicide by posturing." Yeah, we're outraged, but this town in TN would be the sort of place that would welcome the Westboro Baptist Church. The only thing we can hope for is that the hateful father who chose his buddies over his own son ended up permanently on the couch. Next time, gentlemen, bring 500 of your best supporters to cram that church to the gunwales so that they'd need three counties' Sheriff's Departments _and_ the local National Guard to get them out.

  13. 13

Assuming theres nothing more to the story, this is very sad.

  14. 14

Something similar happened to … one of my coworkers best friend he was beaten… and burned alive because he was gay… This is horrible… I cant beleive… people could be so cruel… Some of the comments below … disgust me… ha ha! seriously! why dont these people look at what they are doing in their own lives before casting the first stone!

  15. 15

Re: HalKell – since when has church been enemy territory?? The PROBLEM is that RELIGIOUS LEADERS today are taking the bible and making their own interpretations, and JUDGEMENTS. What baffles me, is how the church's deacon's and members attacked these too..not only that..BUT ON HOLY GROUND. No sin is greater than the next, and its not their place to "condemn" them or to judge them. The church is a holy place. Anyone and everyone is welcomed just as they are. It is sanctuary. Whatever happened to love thy neighbor? to turn the other cheek? to tend to your affairs and not the affairs of others? smh. Gods hand is mighty. AS IS HIS WRATH. They might want to repent.

  16. 16

HURTING PEOPLE IN THE NAME OF RELIGION??? DEAR CHRISITANS, THIS ISN'T WHAT JESUS TAUGHT! WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE? SHAME ON YOU! MAN, I DON'T WANT TO BE THERE WHEN YOU HAVE TO ANSWER TO GOD FOR YOUR HATRED. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. (PS….YOU ARE SCUM)

  17. 17

Re: LizahGiovanni – say it again girl!!

  18. 18

hopefully all the children who are being brainwashed and forced to attend this church of hate got to see what these so called men of god are really all about. man religious folk are getting weirder, weirder, by the day. i guess it should be expected from people who base their lives around some stupid fairy tale.

  19. 19

I'd like for severe punishment for the attackers but let's begin taking the tax free status that churches have away from them….this would stop immediatley.

  20. 20

    Re: MR Pete

Your numerous grammatical errors speak louder than you will ever know, and is synonymous with the type of people you are defending. These two men weren't 'forcing their lifestyle on people'. They were simply attending a service to give thanks to the same God as you were. If anyone was 'forcing their lifestyle' on someone, it was the men who beat these poor guys' heads in. Your mindset is dying, and no matter how hard you fight it, equality will win. The maddening is that, even when this happens, your life will not be affected by it.
I've gone through numerous ways to end this post to you, but in the end, I just want to go the way that is most honest and simple:
You personally make this world a worse place than it would be without you.

  21. 21

that is so fucking stupid. My best friend is a gay guy named miguel, he is like my brother/sister. Gay people are some of the coolest people you will ever meet and the church people arent so fucking religious are they? It says in the bible to not judge other people. Fuck all you haters that are against gay people. if your brother, sister, mother, or father turned out gay you wouldn't be against them, so don't be against other gay people.

  22. 22

Re: Hey Gurrrl – haha your fucking face bitch.

  23. 23

and i just bet those animals call themselves Christians, hypocrites is what they are!!

  24. 24

I am a Christian and I have my own personal views about gay people but i am no way against them as individuals or wold wish any harm on them.I actually have a few gay friends and one bi-sexual friend that I grew up with… I'm tired of people proclaiming ALL Christians as homophobes and hateful people.

  25. 25

There is no excuse for this.

  26. 26

Re: AttFinch – You base your life on sticking your dick in peoples asses… kinda weird also.

  27. 27

I'm so saddened by this. Also..the nasty comments need to stop. Yeah; they probably shouldn't have gone. But it was to church. Not a family barbeque. The hate needs to stop. Equality will prevail. They were trying to be nice. You have to try. Rosa Parks? The freedom rides? Violence is never the option.

  28. 28

While them getting beaten is wrong. Bubba Pittman (and yes that is his nickname) or as his friends call him Bubbles, went to his dad's church probably trying to cause trouble.

  29. 29

Re: Amy3000 – you assume the story is true…..

gays do not belong in my church……make up your own….Bible does not agree with homos sweetie..

  30. 30

    Re: lorienbree – HELL NO!

  31. 31

Re: joethehobo – It was his DAD'S church. He knew he wasn't welcome there. His dad doesn't agree with Bubba's lifestyle. So why would you go there when you know no one wants you there. To cause trouble and embarrass his father, that's why.

  32. 32

Re: stell518 – we are allowed to judge people's behaviors darling….

don't assume this story is accurate or true…..they crashed a church knowing they did not belong their…..

  33. 33

You know the dad was just saving face because he raised a child who is gay. Kind of like honor killings in the middle east. We aren't so far removed from that brutality. I also think people should protect themselves. the kids should find an actual christian focused church and not somewhere that this is actual a possibility. Better to pray at home then sit in the pew listening to narrow minded false prophets and their followiers.

  34. 34

KIM K'S SAGGY ASS……no one wants to belong to your church fucker…….no one.

  35. 35

What do you expect Mario? The constant push for gay marriage is causing backlash. This will only increase as the gay agenda continues.

  36. 36

Re: teddy325 – Thank you for posting this. My thoughts exactly. I am Christian and I'm so damn tired of a number of extremists causing everyone to make such rash judgments about Christians. My Christian church does not teach that it is okay to be in a homosexual relationship but at the same time, gay people are still welcomed and loved. I would never treat someone negatively just because they live their lives differently than I believe is right. My gay friends know my views and are okay with it because they know I love them. When we learn to balance our beliefs (religious or not) with treating people with love and respect, we wouldl see how beautiful this world could be. When people mask their hate with the front that they are doing it in the name of Jesus, well that's completely the opposite of who Jesus was.

  37. 37

Re: joethehobo – Well said. I agree with you 100%. This world would be a better place if everyone had an attitude like yours..

  38. 38

    Start taxing the churches.

  39. 39

what can we expect from people who believe there's someone out that who hears the murmurs from all people in the world…

  40. 40

i believe the Ghandi quote goes "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

  41. 41

There's no Hate like Christian Love. I know there are many good Christians in the world, but as for the haters…..the best thing is watching their desperation as society becomes more accepting and their views die a slow death. Funny how life is. I was severely bullied as a kid, but now, as I get older, I get to watch them slowly rot.

  42. 42

Re: meister – I admire Gandhi for that reason. Don't forget Mark Twain quoted "If Jesus were to ever return to this earth, there is one thing he wouldn't be, a Christian.

  43. 43

Further confirmation why I refuse to go to church. DISGUSTING!! Whatever happened to that bumper sticker. . .What Would Jesus Do? I'm sure not that!

  44. 44

yet again… forcing there billshit life style on other's……never sinks in. gays are selfish, selfcentered, silly lil people who just want attention. hell hath no fury like crazy hillbilly bible thumpers.

  45. 45

I do not agree with what was done. Everyone one should be accepted in church. However, Why would you go there knowing that they do not accept you? It was his Father's church so I am sure he was aware. What were they trying to prove? Were they trying to force them to accept them? I wouldn't go to a bar if I knew that bar doesn't care for blacks.

  46. 46

to sit here and say gays force their lifestyle on others….is complete utter bullshit. gays aren't trying to force their lifestyles on you. they want equal rights. if you're for it, great. if you're against it, then that's great too. this was not the actions that these men should have taken, they should have just politely asked them to leave.

  47. 47

lol just what disgusting gays deserve.

  48. 48

Not so sure why so many people "like" this…… Its really upsetting and shows the ignorance that is associated with religious fucking freaks. get over yourselves and start caring about other people than GOD. fuck u.

  49. 49

Wow, the perpetrators are fucked. They can be sued six ways to Sunday and lose all of their rights and properties. Yeah, good luck beating the gay out of people ignorant red necks across the US. Your time is COMING. TO. AN. END. Find another outlet for your misery and frustration.

  50. ONIT says – reply to this

    50

What an ungodly act! The 4 men should be excommunicated for unchristian behavior. A shame for all Christians!

  51. 51

Dirty dirty people!!! How can you love god if you would treat innocent peo
Le this way? I hate how people use religion to justify their disgusting actions and feelings!

  52. 52

Re: Mad Dog – Teens bullying other teens to the point of suicide, two people in critical condition after getting beat up just for holding hands while walking home, and people constantly voting for the oppression of a specific group of people and constantly voting for inequality. The only agenda I see here is homophobia. You may not consider yourself a homophobe (actually, you in particular might consider yourself a homophobe judging by your post) but if you feel the need to vote against my rights just because I'm gay, I think you need to redefine both your values and your perception of what a homophobe actually is.

  53. 53

Re: angieintenn – Sounds like some church. Just curious, are you a Christian, and if so, do you defend what that church did? Not at all suggesting all Christians hold similar values, andou don't have to answer if you don't want to. I wouldn't either, if I was on your side.

  54. 54

I'd like to take a moment to adress the Christians in this thread who have spoken out in outrage of this terrible event. I recognize that you do not necessarily share the same beliefs as the 'Christians' mentioned in the article and commend you for showing your point of view. Though I am not a religious person, I commend you for showing the love for your fellow human being like Jesus taught. It is a shame that people who claim to follow the same God would tarnish your name and reputation like this, and it is also a shame that some people on my side don't have the compassion to recognize the difference. Keep doing what you're doing. It's not homosexuals vs Christians, but tolerance vs intolerance. To the 'Christians' commending the terrible people who committed this act of unnecessary violence, I have no words for you, as you clearly wouldn't respond logically to anything I would attempt to say to you. The fact that you think your God would commend any act of violence in the name of intolerance is beyond me, and makes me feel absolutely honored that you would not consider me a fellow 'Christian' in your eyes.

  55. 55

This is what happens when you want to hang out with people that believe a ghost fucked a woman, a hebrew turned water into wine and zombies crawl out of their graves!! Talk about a lawsuit, cash in boys! Hit them where it really hurts them, the wallet!!!

  56. 56

Re: iSimplyDGAF – Look, here there seems to be quite a difference between what a church _should_ be doing and what a church _is_ doing. When these two walked in, probably together, those in the congregation knew who they were and knew about their relationship. It was wrong for them to attack these two, but the church would have been well within its rights to ask them to leave if they were behaving outside the parameters expected by that church. We don't know the full details, but it seems _to me_ that the pair at least could reason what might happen if they entered that church.

That said, the church pews better be empty on Sunday if there's a decent human being in that place. Such a church that does such ill in Christ's name doesn't deserve to operate.

  57. 57

Lets be honest there's very much a lot of comedic relief in this story lmao…. "sic em!" "the other deacon came and hit me through my car window in my back" hahaha only in the movies (funny one at that) would i ever think this would happen

  58. 58

Re: iSimplyDGAFRe: Llaauurraa – Thank you..thank you….100% agree with your statement.

  59. 59

Wow, this is truly sad. Were they attacked for being gay? I assume so, but again Perez's posts are always inconclusive and leave wayyy to much to the imagination. I am glad these heathens were charged, I mean really, that is just brutal, so many men attacking just one individual. People should be free to date whomever they want, and church should be a protected place. guess this fear is why so many people live in fear.

  60. 60

The Bystanders didn't help because they were in shock, and some were apathetic.Hate is never Ok. good luck to you guys.

  61. 61

Re: tallguy10 – There's always more to a story that Mario posts; you cannot take it at face value because he always leaves important pieces out that don't suit his agenda. He'll edit it with heavy spin. That's a given. Even so, if these two were beaten only because they're gay, then that's terribly wrong. But I'm guessing there's much more to this than Mario is willing to tell, and so I'm going to reserve judgment until ALL facts are known.

  62. 62

Totally Sickening what people will do in the name of religion.. To imagine a dad going after his own Son, and the church allowing this… Makes no sense.. In these times with teens taking their own life due to bullying… i just find this horrific..

  63. 63

Horrific is a word I would use to describe this scene.. In these times of teens taking their own lives.. I cant see a parent.. A Church allowing this.. Is it not enough to just love and be loved.. My grandfather was a baptist preacher for 30 years. he never condemned me for my life.. all he ever said way love and be loved… I feel for these two young men.

  64. 64

unbelievable! what could make a parent do something like that to their own child. Horrifying for them both!

  65. 65

if we all didn't do what we wanted to do because we knew there would be someone that didn't like it or approve of it, then were would we be. the congregation may not have wanted them there, but clearly they wanted to be there, and they should not have be attacked so violently because they wanted to worship.

  66. 66

A whole group of gays and lesbians should swarm this church on a Sunday with camera crew on hand and walk through the church's doors. Brilliant idea I think!!

  67. 67

I mean I literally was speechless when reading this post. I can't even imagine that we live in a world where these type of things are even happening! Like really…deacons; supposed men of the cloth beat these boys up? Wow…..just wow

  68. 68

    Re: MR Pete
If they were tresspassing, which I don't see how coming to a church during service as trespassing, they should have been arrested for it, not assaulted. Idiot!

  69. 69

Re: mre123 – Sir, your ignorance is showing.

  70. 70

Re: joethehobo – Yes I am Christian. No I do not attend that church even though I know exactly where it is. Do I think what his father and his friends did was right? NO! I am completely against any kind of violence.

  71. 71

Guys, please don't think all of the Catholics/Christians are bad. I'm Catholic and I agree with gay marriages as much as you guys do. This is a truly devastating, though.

  72. 72

Jerry jr. is my step brother but we consider each othe as real brother and sister
Yes this is horrifing, but let's pray that these horrible "GODLY MEN" Will spend time in jail for hate crime. His father is the preacher if that hasn't been applied… A preacher on cocaine, he is an arson, and a theaf!!!
My brother and Dustin are doing good. Try are scared for their lives right now, but I know god has them in him hands.

  73. 73

Re: HalKellRe: HalKell – I actually know these guys personally, and they've attended church services there before. They were welcomed with open arms many times. So they went there with a false sense of security. They didn't think they'd have to worry about their personal safety in a place where they had been welcomed in the past.

  74. 74

Good to hear that some people are still standing up for what is right, and not immoral!

  75. 75

okay, first of all, I honestly think and know that not all christian churches are like that. And it may not be surprising anymore to here a story like that, but it's still heartbreaking. I mean, why can't people be less discriminating and be more understanding! I'm a catholic and I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with being gay! I mean I have lots of friends who are gay. That is just terrible! See that's what happens when someone is religious. There is nothing wrong with it but please, try not to act like your perfect, stop playing God! As for these two, I'm really sorry for you guys. Don't lose faith. Don't be mad at God just cause these church leaders are prejudice. I'm really sorry.

  76. 76
