Chatting With… Tamera Mowry!

We grew up with them on TGIF and we have been getting to know them now as adults on their new Style Network reality show, which has its season TONIGHT at 9 pm!

The show is doing so well that it was just picked up for a second season!

Perez recently caught up with newly married Tamera Mowry to talk about their reality show, the decision to embark on that adventure, her sister's baby, hew new marriage, those Olsen twins, the TGIF days, whether their show is "real" reality or not - and so much more!

Read some highlights from our chat…. after the jump!

Watch our interview in full (above)!

Perez: Hi everybody, it's Perez, right next to Tamera Mowry. And you have been very busy filming your new reality show.

Tamera Mowry: Yes, yes.

Perez: The show has done really well for the Style Network because –

Tamera Mowry: Yes.

Perez: — it was like their biggest premier ever.

Tamera Mowry: Ever.

Perez: It beat that Giuliana and Bill huh?

Tamera Mowry: Yes.

Perez: What prompted you to want to do a reality show?

Tamera Mowry: Honestly, I'm still kind of shocked. When you just said, "Your reality show" I'm like, "Oh my gosh, I'm doing a reality show." The thing is, is my sister and I have been approached a couple of years back and we just didn't think it was the right timing. And then also we were kind of like hesitant you know because I don't know.

Perez: Putting your life out there.

Tamera Mowry: Yes, yes. You become very vulnerable, it could be a tad bit invasive. So we really want to make sure one, the timing was right, and then two, a lot of our fans wanted to know our dynamic. You know they've seen our movies, but they really don't know who we are.

Perez: And you're playing characters there. Yeah.

Tamera Mowry: Yeah, they really don't know who we are as people, and we don't get along all the time. And so people all –

Perez: Well it makes for good television.

Tamera Mowry: Exactly.

Tamera Mowry: People think because we're twins, we're the exact same person, but we're not. We're actually completely the opposites.

Perez: Really? What, what are the biggest differences between you two?

Tamera Mowry: We're both clean but I'm the messier of the two.

Perez: All right.

Tamera Mowry: Yes.

Perez: And what are some other differences?

Tamera Mowry: I — how can I say this? Tia's a little bit more aggressive, maybe assertive, and I can be too sweet at times.

Perez: But you're the older sister.

Tamera Mowry: I know. She –

Perez: You were born a couple minutes ahead, before her.

Tamera Mowry: I know, but she thinks she's the oldest one.

Perez: And was there one of you that was more excited or into this idea of the reality show than the other?

Tamera Mowry: Oh my gosh, yes, Tia. Tia definitely was. She kind of talked me into doing it.

Perez: Is your family on the show too?

Tamera Mowry: Well my brother, and my mom, and my dad, they don't want to be on it at all because it's a reality show, and they're really, really private. So they were like, you guys can do it. But, our husbands were very supportive. I mean, Adam's on it, but he kind of likes to stay in the background, and not really stay too much.

Perez: And has the show been picked up for another season yet? It has I think.

Tamera Mowry: Yes. It has.

Perez: Yes. And you're excited about this?

Tamera Mowry: I am. Mainly because this season we're really going to focus on my sister and I's dynamic as businesswomen. Because we have our own production company. We did "Double Wedding" with the production company and now this is our second project with the production company.

Perez: So your show is one that you're producing, the reality show?

Tamera Mowry: Yes.

Perez: Fabulous.

Tamera Mowry: Yeah.

Perez: Making that money.

Tamera Mowry: I know.

Perez: Now "Sister Sister" was a show where you know most of us saw you two. How long did that run for?

Tamera Mowry: Oh, that ran for almost six years.

Perez: Six years.

Tamera Mowry: Yeah.

Perez: And it was part of the TGIF.

Tamera Mowry: Yes, do you remember that?

Perez: Oh yeah.

Tamera Mowry: Its Friday night…

Perez: And it was that, it was "Full House", was it "Step by Step"?

Tamera Mowry: "Step by Step", "Family Matters".

Perez: "Family Matters".

Tamera Mowry: "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper".

Perez: Oh my god, that came out later.

Tamera Mowry: But at least we were (inaudible) on it.

Perez: On your reality show though, you mentioned that you and your sister don't always get along.

Tamera Mowry: No.

Perez: On this show, is it real or –

Tamera Mowry: Its real.

Perez: You're not like heightening it up for TV?

Tamera Mowry: No. No, no, no. That's what so, I think what's so great about our reality show, it's real. Not only that, it's funny. I look at myself and I crack up.

Perez: That's actually therapeutic. If you can look at yourself, and laugh. But you know I think it's just because Tia and I are two different people, and we have two different perspectives on life. So when you just put us in a room, you're naturally going to get conflict, because we're just two different people, and we're sisters. So on top of that, you have the natural sibling like rivalry –

Tamera Mowry: And working together.

Perez: And we're working together. Spending a lot of time together.

Tamera Mowry: — time together. And yes, I get on her nerves, and she gets on mine.

Perez: Now what — looking back on this season which we're almost towards the end of what was — I want to show the people watching this like perhaps what was your biggest you know blowout with your sister, or what was the most dramatic moment on the show?

Tamera Mowry: The most dramatic moment on the show would have to be when my sister told me she felt left out at my wedding.

Perez: You made up since then?

Tamera Mowry: Oh yeah.

Perez: That's all squashed?

Tamera Mowry: Yeah. We always make up.

Perez: Well happy to have you.

Tamera Mowry: Thank you.

Perez: Everybody tune in. What's — we'll put the date on here.

Tamera Mowry: Yes.

Perez: October that date on Style Network. And at this time season finale, and then stay tuned for a season two.

Tamera Mowry: Yes, of Tia and Tamara. Thank you so much.

Perez: Thank you. Bye.

Tamera Mowry: Bye.

  2. 2

I LOVE the way they fight cause it's SO NICE. You can just tell they are one and the same person (being twinsies) cause they treat each other with the utmost respect. I wish everyone could 'fight' the way they do! The world would be a better place!

They actually turned out pretty well/normal- unlike some other twins that were in the television business. Best wishes and continue to have great lives!
