    Heart warming story.

  2. 2

I think this is great, but doesn't the fact that this story is considered "newsworthy" take something away from it? People with disabilities just want to be thought of like everybody else, and to make it seem like this is some wonderful, amazing thing because she is "different" seems to be a slap in the face to me. I am sure she became homecoming queen not because she is a wonderful person with Down Syndrome, but because she is a wonderful person period.

  3. 3

Heart warming? LOL..She was given the crown because of her disability. She received a pity handout. Nothing more nothing less.

  4. 4

Not trying to rain on her parade, but we know nothing about this girl. Does she deserve the crown? Or is it just because she has Down Syndrome (ding ding ding)? Why don't we treat her like we would anyone else, instead of forcing it? I know someone is going to see this as a personal hate speech against those with disabilities, completely missing my point. This is by no means a hate speech. Nevertheless, congratulations, Mariah. I hope you had a blast.

  5. 5

it was a nice gesture but…. why ? "she's so nice, she called me by my first name. " Well … (?) What does the rest of the school call you? "Trashy whore with too much make-up?"

  6. 6

Geez, can't we just let this one go? Regardless of whether you think it's a pity win, or did she deserve it, it's a nice story in a time where this could have eben about how messed up our country is, or how someone was shot just down from where you live. Just chill out once in a while. It's hard enough for people with disabilities, no matter your outlook on who or where they are or what they won or didn't win, so just for once let it go. Thanks.

Re: RudeRuv – LOLOLOLOL….that's exactly what I was thinking! What else would people call her?? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  8. 8

Haters are gonna hate…regardless if this was a pity win or a genuine win, she won, and that's beautiful. she probably faces many obstacles in her life but, a night like this could make a person feel amazing and i hope she did.

  9. 9

I agree. People always have to be so negative, and always put a damper on someone else's happiness. I personally loved watching this today. Its nice to see some kindness in the world. Thanks for posting.

  10. 10

omg people seriousley she is down syndrome and because one girl said she knew my name. that is a child. the girl was voted and that should show she was well liked. it is not a pity vote. down symdrome people are also able to work and go to a normal school

    Re: NookiesWA

Kill yourself. Any post on this site and you're inside saying something negative. The world would be far better off without you.

You're the cancer of our society. Hang your head in shame because you're a failure inside and out. And no, you will never lose your virginity no matter how much of an asshole you are.

  14. 14

SOME OF YOU FUCKER ON THIS BLOG ARE SOME SICK BITCHES….
But maybe one day when you have your own child and they are born with some form of handicap I bet you will SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS
Have some compassion for people that have some kind of medical problem, you assholes….
    OR BETTER YET
    GROW UP…..

  15. 15

    Re: NookiesWA
You are a piece of shit……
How dare you you be so fucking mean…..
I hope you get the same reaction you give in situations like this when you are at your lowest in life…..

    Re: hawtmomma
    Another SCUM OF THE EARTH….
I bet that picture you have for your blog is a pretty close picture of yourself….
I just think it's so funny how the NEGATIVE people are usually the REAL RETARDED ONES….
YOU CAN USUALLY POINT OUT UN-EDUCATED REAL DUMB-ASS'S BY THE HATEFULNESS THAT COMS OUT OF THEY'RE MOUTHS….
STUPID PEOPLE ARE SO HATEFUL TOWARDS OTHERS….
WHY DON'T YOU READ A BOOK SO YOU DON'T FEEL SO STUPID AND BECOME MORE HATEFUL ?

  17. 17

That's awesome! What a great story and what a great place to go to school. I'm so happy for her and her family. She's a beautiful girl and it sounds like her classmates think she is wonderful.

Oh and negative morons, SHUT UP, grow a SOUL!

  18. 18

LMAO at people defending her..So we should start awarding people with these types of things because they were born different? Riight. I'd actually be insulted if I were in her position because I'd know that it was a charity. Re: lullzzzzz – You just used virginity as an insult. Anytime someone says "you need to get laid" or anything of that manner you instantly look like a retard. Enjoy your herpes and unplanned pregnancy bro.

  19. 19

Re: Baranged – Ignorant? I swear..It's like you illterate retards just learned a new word or something "IGNORANT IGNORANT"..Wtf does that even mean. The face that you are completely in the dark on how and why she won is funny..but yet you're going to say someone is ignorant for stating the truth..LMAO please get an IQ above this down syndrome girl before you call me out. I'll destroy you. You IGNORANT retard.

  20. 20

    That was so awesome!!!

  21. 21

Well, Piggy, at least she wasn't stolen and used as a political prop by a Quitter governor and then thrown under a bus. I only bring this up to ask the burning questions…….Where's Tri-G? Where's his birth certificate?
    Congratulations, Mariah!!!!

  22. 22

You people are so fucking cynical. It was a sweet little girl that gets to enjoy being Queen for a day. Get over it. I'm happy for her and I'm sure she doesn't see it as a "Pity handout"

  23. 23

Re: NookiesWA – Too fucking funny! ""IGNORANT IGNORANT"..Wtf does that even mean" This is exactly what "ignorant" means.

    ig·no·rantAdjective/ˈignərənt/
    1. Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

  24. 24

I don't understand some of the comments saying "it was given to her because she has Down Syndrome and for no other reason." The school or county doesn't just decide arbitrarily who gets it…your classmates decide who gets it, they vote who gets to be on the homecoming court in the first place, and then they vote on the finalists to decide who wins. Anybody who went to high school knows this. And to be honest, high school kids are some of the cattiest people on two legs, so its kind of extraordinary, yeah.

I don't know why people always say such things. I went to high school in North Carolina, and in my senior year, we voted a black girl to be homecoming queen. And somehow some people in the community were saying the same thing then, "She only got it because she's black and it's the PC thing to do." Actually we _voted for her_ because she was the nicest girl on the entire court and just beautiful.

Sometimes the person you least expect wins. And it's not rigged or "given out" to be PC. It's a shame in our society that when someone who doesn't meet the mold actually manages to win and people somehow just can't believe it.

  25. 25

It's sweet she won! But it's sad that people focus only on her having the disability, which makes it seem like she wasn't worthy of winning it just for being her, but because she was special. IT takes away from the fact that she was a sweet girl, and deserve it, as I saw other testimonials about on her ACTUAL news sites. This story paints the picture that she won just for having down syndrome and not because she was a deserving girl, which she was. Congrats to her! :)

  26. 26

Where the heck is that IrishEyes snatch? This is right up her prejudiced little alley.

  27. 27

Oh give me a fucking break.

  28. 28

I'm confused, who DESERVES to win Homecoming Queen? WTF? Queens are voted by their classmates. If she got the votes she deserves to win. Some people are so dumb. Good for her, I bet it was a fun night.

  29. 29

That's awesome. My graduating highschool class had a kid named Max that won homecoming king and he had downsyndrome. It wasn't JUST bc of his disability that he won, he was friends with lots of people and highschool wouldn't have been the same without him.

  30. 30

    Congratulations Mariah! :)

  31. 31

Re: lullzzzzz – Agreed. Talk about someone with a truly debilitating condition.

  32. 32

Congratulations, Mariah! Doing everything right! :D

  33. 33

Sad to see some of the rude comments on here. Whether you think she deserved it or not that was probably the nicest thing her classmates could do for her and she will remember that forever! The cheerleaders get enough attention, let someone else get noticed for once!

  34. 34

Re: RudeRuv – She has a lot of makeup on because she is on the dance team. Idiot!

  35. 35

same thing happened in Santa Maria CA at Santa maria HS but it was a young man who was crowned king. Very beautiful!

  36. 36

I think Mariah is so happy right now that she does not even care about all the haters' comments on Perez Hilton. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. 37

This is the definition of patronization.

  38. 38

Touching story…the "she called me by my first name" girl must be a real winner. But the real question is, why do we have to watch a advertisement for a crappy movie before we see the video, Mario? You loser!

  39. 39

Congrats to her! The only thing I'm disappointed about is that they didn't have a statement from her…they didn't need the girl who had ONE class with her to say she was really sweet, why wouldn't she be really sweet, she was a nice enough person for peers to make her a candidate. It's just strange that she didn't get to say how she felt about it, it may, inadvertently, perpetuate certain stereotypes associated with down syndrome. Maybe it just wasn't in this particular clip, I hope. Anyways, yay Mariah!

  40. 40

Re: naomib1 – I was being sarcastic retard. I know what ignorant means. What I was getting out is it seems people just learnt a new word and are throwing it around like crazy "ignorant this ignorant that" when 90% of the time it doesn't even make sense in what you're using it for.

  41. 41

Did anyone else notice the guy and fat chick in the background, whom I'm assuming were also candidates, not clap at all. Like she ever had a chance!

  42. 42

Re: NookiesWA – It's funny that you say something like that. My cousin was one of the nominees for homecoming queen there that night. (The one twirling the flag in the "Beautiful" maroon gown - yeah, that's my cousin.) Anyways, you say that it was done to pity, but in reality it wasnt. I've actually met the girl cause she's a friend of my cousins and for you to say something like that is quite the judge of your character.

Be happy for her! She deserves that crown…Not cause of her "Disability" but because of her personality.

  43. 43

You know, people with Down's Syndrome are very lovable and sweet. I have met hundreds and this is true every time. Do you cynics think the girl won because she is a well-loved student at her school? I'll just bet no one has anything but nice things to say about her. I choose to believe she won because her classmates love her. Pbbbt to you jerks who will never know the unconditional love given by an angel with Down's. I feel sorry for you all.

  44. 44

Re: Katie1208 – A-ha! Your experience PROVES what I was thinking all along! This little sweetie won because people love her. :] I'm sure her school wouldn't be the same without her either.

  45. 45

screw you i go to Azle High School and im with Maria every day! she a lot better person than any of yall will ever be she didnt get queen because of DS she got it because she puts heart in everything she does and doesnt let anyone or anything hold her back she a wonderful amazing person and a awesome cheerleader! GO M!

  46. 46

Re: RAY2RAY – Relax Asswipe! I was laughing at what RudeRuv said about the silly girl with too much makeup on, not about Maria…Good on her for winnning…oh and next time you want to make a comment…try CAPS OFF FUCKWAD!
