Apple has confirmed the death of their former CEO and mastermind Steve Jobs.

One of the greatest visionaries of our time, the man who revolutionized technology, he had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2004.

Jobs was only 56 years old.

In a statement late Wednesday, Apple said:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today. Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts."

As we type away on our MacBook Pro we are truly devastated by this news.

From the personal computer, to iTunes to the iPhone and more. No single person has impacted modern culture more than Steve Jobs.

His legacy will live on forever!

I'm sure most people aren't really surprised since he was very sick. It's good though, that he resigned Apple when he did to spend the end with his family. RIP

Agree with Be-Atch. He lived a full life, though; short but very productive. His contributions will never be forgotten. RIP, gentle Steve.

Sad, sad. Hopefully he's at peace now, and his family, as well.

And well done, Mario, this was actually a nice post.

Bye Steve. I purchased my first Mac in 1983 and have purchased apple products ever since. Thanks for all you have done for us. You are one of the only famous people whose death upsets me.

  21. 21

I hate Apple but R.I.P. Steve. I wish we had a cure for cancer.

  22. 22

We just lost the most influential man of the last 100 years. He changed the landscape in which we all live. Without him, Gates would have not been successful. The world just got a bit darker.

  23. 23

Just 24 hours after the announcement from Tim Cook.
Those announcements as CEE were always so important to him,
He did such a good job every year
He has done so much incredible things for apple that I truly believe his body wasn't allowing him to pass away until the announcement was over and he knew for sure his work is done and that he could move on..:'(
He has sheen so sick for months..I'm glad the genius can finally rest in peace without any more pain. RIP Steve Jobs, your a legend in my eyes, and many many others, and always will be remembered as the brains behind apple!

  24. 24

Drudge Report has a great picture of Steve, back when he was young and handsome, holding an apple.

This is how we should remember Steve, when he was young and our computer technology revolution was just beginning.
    -
So sad to see this devastated picture of Steve up, Mario.
    How about something flattering?

  25. 25

RIP Steve. You were an amazing visionary.

  26. 26

Hopefully his passing will end the HORRIFYING SUICIDES his Asian employees have been committing over their torture & abuse ordered by Steve Jobs!

I have goosebumps and tears just writing this.

Here’s Steve's commencement address at Stanford in 2005.
    -
    Excerpt:

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.
    -
And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.
    -
Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.
Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
    -
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
They somehow already know what you truly want to become.
    Everything else is secondary."…
    -
    …" “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.”
And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you."

  41. 41
