Johnny Depp Sincerely Apologizes For Describing His Feelings With A Rape Comparison

Johnny Depp Apologizes For Rape Comparison

As we reported yesterday, Johnny Depp recently told Vanity Fair that constantly being photographed by the paparazzi and having his privacy invaded by is like being "raped… it feels like kind of weird .. just weird, man."

Naturally, with words so loaded, the actor felt a backlash.

RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, issued a statement addressing his comments.

And while we were a bit shocked as well, we knew he by no means meant to use the word in the worst connotation. We just felt that he, as a public figure (adored by many women), could have prepared with more sensitivity and chosen better words.

Fortunately, he agrees and offers more pleasant words in his apology:

I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling. I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgment, please accept my heartfelt apology.

RAINN has accepted his apology, and we still love him just the same as well!

Johnny isn't one to issue a fake apology. We know he means it!

It's his job! Tell him to stay in France and try to make movies and money there. Get out of the movie business if you don't want people taking pictures of you!

These faux pas are totally forgivable when you know the person had no intent to offend yet recognizes and RESPECTS the fact that he/she did and shows honest remorse. I love Jhonny Depp - even though he plays wild characters, he seems like such a down to earth kind person.

  3. 3

It was a poor choice of words. He should have said colonoscopy.

  4. 4

I can understand where paparazzi can get out of hand but 'perezisadumbass' has a good point. with wealth and fame comes alot of picture taking! really bad choice of a word though.

  5. 5

    he pulled a k-stew

  6. 6

He is an idiot….gets paid millions and complains AND then ignorantly compares it to rape….Yup, all the children, women and some men who have been attacked or preyed upon should find his comparison idiotic….Live in France with your fading looks and go away please, MR. Depp.

Re: perezisadumbass – Please shut up. Just because you're a movie star does not give people the right to STALK and harass you 24/7. The entertainment industry is the only profession where their work goes home with them. Celebs attend hundreds of events a year rather it be charities, parties, award shows or premiers..that should be the only place and time people should be taking pictures of them. You would not like it if your boss from work showed up at your house. No one wants to mix their job with their personal lives. Celebs should be no different.

It's hit "job" to promote a film by signing autographs and getting his picture taken at SANCTIONED events. Not going to the store buying toilet paper.

No wonder Johnny hates america and chooses to live in France..Americans are too stupid and uptight. It seems as if theres some organization calling out every sentence a person says these days..Funny enough completely interpreting what he said and not realizing he meant it by hes getting taken advantage of.

HEY JOHNNY, STUPID ASS ANALOGY-ON YOUR PART, BUT GLAD YOU APOLOGIZE ALL THE SAME….BUT, YOUR THE ONE WHOM WANTED TO BECOME FAMOUS, YOUR LIFESTYLE THAT YOUR FAME PROVIDE,SORRY DUDE…THIS INVASSION OF PRIVACY GOES WITH THE TERRITORY(NOT SAYING IT'S RIGHT, BUT COME ON) IF THE PAPARAZZI AND THE PUBLIC INVADE YOU PRIVACY SOOOO MUCH,YOU WOULDNT WANT TO LIVE LIKE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN ( PAY CHECK TO PAY CHECK, POSSIBILITY OF FOOD STAMPS, NO CAR OR CAR TROUBLE, NOT HAVING ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED YOUR KIDS,NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY TO WASH YOUR KIDS CLOTHES) I COULD GO ON AND ON, ..MY POINT IS FOR YOU AND MANY OTHER SELF-CENTERED /SELFISH CELEBRITIES THAT DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THOSE THING SHOULD APPRECIATE THE BIG TIME GIFT THAT GOD GAVE YOU, STOP YOUR COMPLAINING!!!

    He should NEVER have apologized.

  11. 11

Re: NookiesWA – Totally agree with you!

  12. 12

i think i love your brain Nookies WA. finally someone with common sense.

  13. 13

Maybe if he's raped, then the apology can be "sincere".

  14. 14

    Re: NookiesWA

    Cun*t.

  15. 15

I think he was a true gentleman to apologize, but he did nothing wrong. In modern times, the word rape also is used to describe a feeling of being completely violated and having all of your privacy stripped away. I have heard it used that way several times.
And I have been raped, and I see no problem with him using that word at all. I don't need RAINN coming to my "defense" and implying to the world that I am too weak and vulnerable to hear that word being used. Thanks….but no thanks. I can handle it.

  16. 16

move to france permanently you america hating pansy

  17. 17

A saw this apology coming as soon as he said that. How many celebrities have been in that situation before? They never learn.

  18. 18

Lilygirl27 - Well said! Like you, I have also been raped, but see no harm in Mr. Depp's comments. Once again his remarks have been taken completely out of context, just the same as the 'big dumb puppy' comment. Johnny Depp doesn't 'hate' America - he has family and homes there, and from what I've read, he lives there for six months of the year.
If he has a fault, it is perhaps being too open and honest; and let's face it, he has the same right to privacy as anyone else. His time with his family should be sacrosanct, but still the paprazzi hound and stalk him with their long lenses - no wonder he gets angry!!
I completely agree with Curiousred - he should NEVER have apologised.

  19. 19

@HumiliatedGrape I always agree with your comments. (: I have nothing more to add, you're totally right and said everything I had on my mind.

So in America, you cannot say something about gays without LGBT at your throat. You can't say anything about blacks without NAACP at your throat. You can't say you ate a entire rack of ribs without fucking PETA at your throat! My GOD! For fuck's sake America, stop being so damn hypersensitive, take out your tampon, and grow a lovely pair of balls. Just going to wait until National Organization of Women to say something!
Using rape as an analogy for manipulative and low-life paparazzi that take advantage of people for their own personal gratification is the perfect choice of word.

@divinecarolinee I agree with you too. For these reasons I'm so happy I'm not American. It may be a country of "freedom" but for real-you can't say anything without an organization on your head. This is just pathetic. As HumiliatedGrape said before, he meant no harm, he tried to explain his feelings. Stop being so dramatic and sensitive, I'm sure he didn't try to hurt people.

  23. 23

    god, americans are idiots. period.

  24. 24

@ iGotNoIdea: I'm also glad I'm not American - too many organisations all on a mission; it must be very frustrating to have to watch every word you say. I just hope this hysterical, over-the-top reaction to his (perfectly innocent!) remarks doesn't make him want to stop giving interviews. Though it would be understandable if he felt that way..
Are you looking forward to The Rum Diary? It looks like a great film, and Johnny's comedy timing just seems to get better and better…can't wait for this one!!

  25. 25

@HumiliatedGrape As I said before I'll say again, I agree with every word you said. (:
And yes, I am looking forward to "The Rum Diary"! I'm looking forward to every movie of Johnny (; But this specific one looks so good by what I've seen in the trailer…I can't wait to watch it!

read my other post typical of depp thats all I got to say about that one

Most of the millions of Johnny Depp fans know that johnny did not use the word rape in a derogatory and offensive way. He immediately offered a public apology which I believe was accepted by Rainn. But shame on Rainn for trying to coerce him into working with Rainn aka asking him for a handout.

Where is Rainn when the media reports on the "rape of justice" in society or the"rape of the land"??? I NEVER hear an outcry from Rainn which leads me to believe that they are going to ask Johnny for $$$$$.

This politically correct bull shit is making society a bunch a dumb asses…OH NO! I have offended asses!! The National Mule and Jack Ass Organization will come after me for insulting an ass, because they believe asses are smart, not dumb!!!

WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY. You are the best in Hollywood! xoxox
