Make It Better Campaign Stands Up Against Disgusting Anti-GSA Tennessee Principal!!!

make it better campaign vs tennessee principal

We're SO glad to see so many people standing up for such an important cause!

To recap, earlier this week we were horrified and disgusted to hear about a PRINCIPAL at Sequoyah High School in Tennessee who shoved and verbally harassed 17-year-old senior Chris Sigler for refusing to take off a shirt promoting the establishment of a gay-straight alliance (GSA) club on campus!

Then earlier today, we learned that there was even MORE bigotry and close-mindedness going on in that SAME school system in Monroe County!

Apparently, the school couldn't claim a GSA because they couldn't find ANY faculty sponsors! WTF!

Fortunately, there's some light at the end of this tunnel! We're now hearing that the gsanetwork's Make It Better Campaign has gotten over 40,000 signatures from people who are "demanding an investigation of a principal's alleged assault of a student for wearing a pro-GSA shirt." AMAZING!!!!

The Make It Better Campaign is seeking to not only investigate this awful principal in Tennessee, but they want to make it national and spread the word to principals all over the country that Gay-Straight Alliance clubs are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and MUST be supported by school systems/faculty EVERYWHERE!

Who cares? i have to deal with your man whore ways and no one cares about how I feel. How about attention whores in the street?

    I care! Right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disgusting! A teen in Texas was suspended from school because he didn't agree with homosexuality! Why won't you speak out for that kid? Or I guess since he doesn't agree with you it doesn't matter.

Re: thebigboot – I understand your point, then I guess that gives me free reign to stand up during a history class and say "freeing the negro slaves was wrong, I believe that we should force blacks back to slavery". There is no difference between these two statements, and I can guarantee that saying that would get me sent to the principals office. Whether or not I was suspended, that is a different matter.

I will say that having him suspended was overkill, but in light of the current state of kids killing themselves every other week because they are being bullied, I can understand how they might overreact. It was probably just a means to try and prevent any future bullying. I agree, it was overkill.

Re: MITengineer2014 – BUT that story differs from the one that Perez is reporting in that in Tennessee, the principal got physically and verbally abusive towards the kid. That is wrong.

I agree….Perez you have some power now, BE A SPOKESMAN for these Kids!!! Thankfully this organization HAS stepped in, but so many cases are not investigated….Re: pollopicu – I pray you do not have children to pass on your genes….your words are odd in a scary un-hinged ways….Do not group all "gays" as whores please….’cause they are not…thank you.

This article, like most of your anti first amendment rants, is complete and utter bullshit. Perhaps you should check out the REAL story rather than depending upon hearsay sources. dipshit

It's Tennessee, what do you expect?

Re: MITengineer2014 – you scare me. yes, yes, yes. me, you, and everyone else have the right to our opinion. my thoughts are my thoughts. just because you don't agree with them make you right and me wrong. most people could care less who is sleeping wih who or what, but i have the right to think it is not okay. i don't want to stop you , i spend zero time thinking about it, but i don't have to like it. that is my opinion.
btw, young people have always killed themselves. always have always will. it is sad, and i pray for them, but it is no worse now than times past. there is not an epidemic.

Schools have their rules of dress code. Wear a stupid tee shirt and you get kicked out. Maybe the kid didn't co-operate. He shouldn't have to get any special attention.

Re: straighticketvoter – i scare you? lol. what scares me is that you commented on my post without reading it. I AGREED WITH THAT COMMENT and made no comments on my stance on gay issues. I was simply making a statement and then making a comparison to a similar situation. Re-read it, maybe you will catch it the second time around. I understand that it may be cryptic.

The number of suicides is up this year compared to previous years. You pray for these kids, yet it is discriminatory and hateful perspectives that push kids over the edge and make them think that if they kill themselves they will be free. Excuse me for saying this but your efforts are misguided and misplaced. Why not focus your efforts on preventing the suicides by promoting acceptance and love, rather than praying away the gay?

  12. 12

Maybe you should be more careful about what you read. I never stated that I pray the gay away. I pray that they come to acceptance. US society in very tolerant towards gays, and suicide rates are the same now that they were in the early to mid 1990's.
People have a right to their opinion. Not saying lock up the gays. You seem very intolerant of people who do not agree with you.

  13. @v@ says – reply to this

Shoving a kid for free shirt speech is out of control behavior no matter what was on that shirt apart from cuss words. Is that a guy who had his student's best interest at heart?

Re: straighticketvoter – I am not intolerant of anyone except people who abuse animals or children. There is no excuse for that. Verbal abuse is abuse. This is a case of verbal abuse.

I went to the Madisonville school system when I was a kid. I was heavily bullied there for about 12 years for being gay and I wasn't even out to myself at the time. They knew I was gay before I did. Because of the abuse I now have C-PTSD. They need a GSA very badly.
