Rosie Debuts! Here's What The Critics Are Saying…

| Filed under: TV NewsRosie O'DonnellMedia MinuteSad SadDavid Letterman

As we've said before, you can't win 'em all!

Yesterday, Rosie O'Donnell's new talk show The Rosie Show (above) debuted on OWN, and the critics just aren't feeling it.

Here's what Liane Bonin Starr from Hitfix had to say about it:

"If you were expecting Letterman, you're sure to be disappointed. This isn't to say the show doesn't have it's charms as well as some glaring problems."

"In being family friendly, O'Donnell is so inoffensive she's simply dull."

More from Newsday's Verne Gay:

"Of course, first nights are messy. They can also be promising. Yet nothing here suggested promise."

"O'Donnell long ago ditched the 'cutie-patootie' celeb interview business in favor of stridency, even anger."

More from Lori Rackl at the Chicago Sun Times:

"The Rosie Show got off to a rocky start Monday with a premiere that was talk show, variety show, game show and public-service program, all rolled up into one muddled hour of live TV."

"Rosie O’Donnell kicked things off at her new Harpo Studios home with a monologue that seemed to be missing something — like funny jokes."

Ouchie! And here's more from Variety's Brian Lowry:

"Airing live creates a sense of unpredictability, but unlike most frontloaded premieres, The Rosie Show's bow proved curiously flat and understated, whose success will rest heavily on the host's lingering fan base."

Ah well. Maybe the second episode will get a more positive response?

Did U watch the debut episode of Rosie's new show? If so, what did U think about it???

That is ONE HUGE FAT & FILTHY HATE-FILLED MOUTHED MAN!

Does anyone watch Okra Panfry's stable of Lezbos?

I am the biggest Rosie fan, but I must admit, did not care for this show. Dont feel Rosie was allowed to be Rosie, I feel she might have had too many restrictions put on her by the Big O. She is best when let loose to be herself. I will continue to watch her in hopes that the show improves.

Re: LovesGossip – The only mandate I know of in Rosie's contract is she has to LAP OPRAH'S KOOCHIE before every show, and Rosie had no problem with that….she did draw the line at Gale's KOOCHIE though….

Still love you Rosie! Was a huge fan of her old show and VH!! Makes me laugh it is what she does best. Good luck!!!!!

I tuned in and was a bit aghast…aside from the fact that it didn't follow the scheduled time it was supposed to and the interview with Russell Brand was chopped-I taped it again later so I can see if they did that later too. But altogether is was pretty awful…and I love Rosie!

Was not impressed, but I don't like her, never did. She's got a chip on her shoulder a mile long and it shows. I don't find her funny. The show was forced — Russell Brand was not entertaining at all. It bored me — I changed the channel.

I wonder how long it will take before she starts her gay agenda………

Looks like it's more of a job for Rosie to tell you the truth. She's not there and she seems angry. This show is not her and I don't see it having a future.

Love it! Love it! Love3 it!
I can't wait to see it in Canada.

I wasn't crazy about the show—she seemed a bit rushed at times. During RB interview her eyes kept looking away ( to teleprompter or her producer??). Some bits were fun though. Let's see how the week goes……

I think the show will be a dud. Both Rosie and Oprah are trying too hard and it shows. i really think people are over Rosie. not the best choice. not at all. Ellen rules now. deal with it. i give it less than 6 months.

I have a feeling Okra Panfry Network will merge with Here! & that other gay channel….Bravo.

    won't be a huge success
Rosie is best being Rosie on Satellite radio where she is uncensored and free to be herself
not a Rosie fan since I saw how nasty and vindictive she can be
but even her most ardent fans must feel let down

    Blech,she made her bed.

I would not watch her, even if I was paid!!!
