It's the American Idol dream!

Not only has Scotty McCreery's debut album Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, but he's also the first country act to have their freshman album debut at the top of the chart.

AND, at 18 years old, he's the youngest man to open at the top of the chart with his first release.

Crazy!

What's even crazier is that since Kelly Clarkson's debut in May 2003 and Ruben Studdard's debut in December 2003, he's the first AI winner to hit Number 1.

Good for him! That's huuuge!

In other news, what's Taylor Hicks up to these days??

This makes me so happy. Haters will hate, but I love him.

pitty his music sucks. its cheesy and not original at all. but americans just love christian country singers. 0 taste at all. what has the music industry come to . ):

dullest winner ever and his voice is so dreary and one dimensional. Zzzzzzzzz

I love this kid…I wish nothing but the best for him!!!

Scotty is great but the sales were kind of disspointing. I think he sold 197000 copies. Carrie Underwood did not debut at #1 but she sold 315000copies of her debut CD Some hearts. As popular as Scotty is I am surprised his CD didn't sell more copies. It is still impressive though. No doubt that he will be a huge country star with that deeeeeeeeeeeeeep voice.

This is one goofy looking S.O.B. Don't act like it doesn't matter.

man, his music sucks. he's nothing but a stupid ugly white trash redneck cracker hillbilly. i think i got all the insults in there. ahaha white trash people are like cockroaches…..they constantly breed and never go away.

Oh how wonderful it would be for people to realize just because YOU don't like the music doesn't mean it sucks. It means it isn't your taste. Leave it up to L.A. Reid to be the talent expert. Like I can say, I dislike Lady Gaga, but to say she is talentless or sucks is bullshit. Same with the others people love to hate. The kid obviously has SOME talent or he wouldn't have won over the judges, the millions who voted for him or the thousands who bought his album. It's not that difficult of a concept to understand. Personally, I liked him from his audition. He is a typical southern boy who seems really polite and humble. Looks like some readers here should take notes.

Re: branbxoxo – he is cute, polite and a really sweet boy. however those things dont make you a good musician. i like his voice . but of course he was going to do the country thing. its cheesy and cliched . nothing original. anyone with any knowledge of the music industry would know that.

I really don't like the first single, but the kid (guy) has an amazing voice. Maybe the haters will shut up long enough to let an artist grow.

I still don't get how the most mediocre, cheesy artists constantly end up on top of the billboard charts! No substance.

Re: T.E.A.M.J.O.L.I.E – Oh, silly me, I guess those judges, all involved in the music industry, didn't know what they were talking about either. Again, country may be cheesy and cliche to you, which is completely ok, but it doesn't make him any less of an artist. The only point I am trying to make to the readers here is that just because a certain genre isn't your taste doesn't mean it "sucks". There are MANY extremely successful country artists who have sold MILLIONS of albums, so surely you don't think you're opinion is right and the millions of others are wrong.
AND FOR THE RECORD, I'm not even a country fan, I just DO know about music and know that there is tons of talent in each genre. Especially one where they actually can sing and play instruments and it isn't all auto-tune and computer generated music.

Re: branbxoxo – im not a fan of auto-tune but at least some of those songs have decent melody. and i dont hate country i actually like a bit of it. but the majority of new country artists arnt even singing country . its just rubbish. there is no melody , no rythm, not heart or anything worth buying.
