Redbox Is Profiting From Netflix's Screw Up!

redbox profiting from netflix screw up

Watch out, Netflix! You may have wiped out almost all the Blockbusters from El Lay to La Canada, but there are still PLENTY of Redboxes…and more are coming!

According to Piper Jaffray analyst Michael J. Olson, Coinstar's Redbox movie rental kiosk are reaping the benefits of Netflix totally screwing up with their formerly loyal customers.

Olson says that Web traffic to Redbox.com has increased, and Google search trends are suggesting that Netflix users will start migrating to Redbox more and more.

Not only that, but Back in July, Redbox's second-quarter profit DOUBLED as they continued to expand AND their revenue grew 34% to $363.9 million!!!!

Also, Coinstar has added approximately 6,000 Redbox locations over the last year, and they're continuing to do so! Not bad!

So yeah…they may not have a DVD-by-mail/online streaming service right now, but don't discount Redbox as a threat, Netflix! They've got an opportunity here and they're totally taking advantage of it…as they should!

What do U think? Is Redbox a major threat to Netflix at this point???

Serves them right - Netflix was nuts to raise prices on a product people don't need, especially in this economy with competitors like Redbox right on their heels. Now they are backtracking, but the damage seems to already be done.

Redbox won't be able to keep low prices forever… I'm sure the studios will be asking more from them too.

Perez, did you used to date someone who worked at Netflix and get f*cked over? or do you have stock in Redbox? you have a strange obsessive hatred towards Netflix. big deal they made a mistake and corrected it. wasn't the whole point of Netflix the convenience of don't having to go some place to rent and then have to go some place to return. and no late fees. i don't know for sure but aren't you charged daily for a Redbox dvd. and aren't you charged extra for blu-ray and games. i guess Redbox is good if you can manage to rent, watch and return the dvd in one day.

So sorry people, but- WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! Everyone is a sucker for a company that's a few dollars cheaper and employs far less people to create those prices. THEN (of course) their competitors collapse and they are FORCED to raise prices! BTW- I hope you guys quit your bitching when Amazon's prices raise 10 fold.

Just out of curiousity, checked the Redbox outside my local supermarket and they did not have a single movie I would have been interested in renting.

Re: Wild-Guitar – so a fish-smelling cun*t wasn't enough, it had to be rotten too? LOL!!

I talked to a guy who was closing down a Blockbuster in Canada, and their stores were doing fine, but somebody in the U.S. (based) allegedly needed cash, called in a loan and forced them shut. Nothing to do with Netflix.

No one is mentioning that $1 Redbox movies are now $1.10 and with tax for me it is $1.20. I'm staying away from Netflix AND Redbox and getting my movies for FREE at the local library!!
