Seth MacFarlane: Family Guy Should Have Ended

Blasphemy for Family Guy fans!

The creator of the show, Seth MacFarlane says that it should have probably already ended. Even though with 10 seasons, high viewership, syndication revenue, and merch generating almost $200 million, Seth says:

"Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series.

I talk to the fans and in a way I'm kind of secretly hoping for them to say we're done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.

[A movie], creatively, that would be the way to do it for me. Do a really fantastic final episode while the show is still strong."

As for what he'd rather do instead, Seth would love to relaunch Star Trek the TV series. He says:

"I don't know who would give me the keys to that car. But I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience."

We wouldn't be surprised if Seth could make that happen.

As for Family Guy, let's just leave things the way they are. Too many fans would revolt!

  5. 5

Its time to start thinking about letting it go and concentrating more on American Dad.

Yeah I've been tired of that show for at least three years, so that sounds about right. He knows what's up.

i really dont get celebs like him they go through all the trouble to get rich and famous but when they finally make they knock what got them there!! Theres nothing more annoyiny than a rich person complaining about being rich or what makes them rich

Re: pie107 – how is him admitting the show is past its time knocking what he made? maybe he just wants the show to go out on a high note before its not longer funny at all?

    Look at it this way:

The simpsons, is dying. Its suffering a fate of deterioration, and will most likely not go out "big". People will think when the time comes, thank god its finally put out of its misery.

I guess Family guy will, inevitably hit that milestone too. So why not end it on a high note, instead of a low?

I would be pretty upset if Family Guy were to be done. At least American Dad is pretty funny.

What Seth MacFarlane should do is produce a new Patrick Stewart/Bent Spinner "Star Trek: the Next Generation" movie. Do it as a feature film in theatres, or as an HBO or Netfilx mini-series exclusive. Would sell like hotcakes on DVDs, and could be repackaged with the other movie DVD boxsets. That would go to show if he was the man to produce a new series, and it would give proper closure to the TNG gang, who didn't get the best sendoff with Star Trek Nemesis. Seth MacFarlane is a huge fan of The Next Generation and is a friend of Patrick Stewart - if anyone could give us another TNG film, its Seth! Make it so!

He may be tired of the hectic schedule….

I love Family Guy but everyone knows that all good things must end. Even once the series is over we will all have many more series, shows and music to look forward to from Seth Macfarlane. (Hopefully!)
