Hilary Swank Regrets Going To President Of Chechnya's Birthday Party

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooHilary Swank

And not because the goodie bags were just "eh."

Hilary Swank and several other celebrities came under fire this week after it was reported they attended the birthday party concert for the President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov , a ruthless man accused of torturing and killing many, many people.

However, Hilary maintains that when she accepted the invitation, she had no idea what kind of man Chechnya was accused of being. She simply was interested in going to the concert. She released a statement today, explaining:

"I deeply regret attending this event. If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone."

ORLY?! Can we ask you a question then?

If you had no idea who Ramzan Kadyrov was, how come you gave a speech at the event (above), where you not only offered him a, "Happy Birthday," but also told the press, who questioned your knowledge of the President's birthday:

"I read … I do my research."

So, which is: did you know what kind of many Kadyrov is accused of being and didn't care or were you trying to save face in front of the press in Chechnya? Either way, you're a liar so ….

I love her movies, especially Million Dollar Baby! That stool killed me!

Who accepts invitations from strangers, or in this case powerful figures without looking into their backgrounds/seeing what kind of work they've been doing? Sounds more like she's sorry that she got caught :/
Other than that, she's a good actress.

Oh puhleeze, Miss Thing is playing the "I didn't know he was a ruthless dictator" card. She knew exactly what she was going when she got paid handsomely to associate with that psycho. I can understand if someone like Paris Hilton didn't know…but Hillary Swank? She's supposed to be an intelligent person. I get she got greedy and thought people wouldn't notice. Uh…they did.

She didn't say she didn't realize what kind of a person he is, she said she didn't realize what kind of an event it was. Perhaps when she first accepted she did not realize it was for his birthday.

Chechnya is the country not the person.. bad typo, only an American!

Do Ya think Hill? Do you really need money that bad?

Other celebrities included Belgian action star Jean Claude Van Damme, who told Kadyrov "I love you with all my heart." Violinist Vanessa Mae and British singer Seal also attended.

The Berlin-based European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights said it had written an open letter to all the entertainers before the event asking them not to attend.

Human Rights Watch has urged the celebrities to return any money or gifts they may have received for attending the celebration.

If she did her research then she should've known about the crimes that he has been accused of. She just didn't give a shit!!!

She's never heard of Wikipedia? Stupid cünt.

  11. 11

I'm sure it's all about the money. How much was she and the other worthless "celebrities" paid for their attendence at this ego trip?

  12. 12

This is an example of why it is not easy to topple dictators, bring them to the International Criminal Court or support change in basic human rights. The Human Rights Commission informed them not to accept, so they attended knowingly. Money. It does funny things to people.

Yes, she had no idea what kind of party she was going to. Chechnya is beautiful this time of year. Lots of killer resorts and some of the best golf in the world. I was born in the morning, but not this morning. Lets hear how much you and JCVD got paid to be at this party.

What about Beyonce and Mariah Carey? They performed for Muammar Gaddafi!

Geez Hilary, it's not like Chechnya hasn't been in the news a lot over the last 20 years, mostly due to violence and war. It isn't hard to take 5 minutes and google someone before taking them up on their invitation.

Forget about her doing her research b/f accepting this invite, she has an agent/mager & staff to do this. Having said that, let's pause for a min., we should agree to disagree sometimes, we are a diverse population and everyone has a right to do/think as they wish. Free will peeps. Even though Im uncomfortable with her miglig with such a subhuman, I conceede, it's her right as well. Peace.

Most celebrities avoid controversy to avoid scandals, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will do what is right, but what is right for them. Because what they avoid the most, is "turning on their own" - few wants to be the outcast. For instance, support Roman Polanski because they feel entitled and often above morals. The rules do not apply to them, they apply to others. That said, I must admit that I expected more from Swank, she seems like a grounded woman, but I can't say I'm too sure about that at the moment.

  20. 20

Idiot. Maybe she can hook up with the other idiot Sean Penn, ass buddies with just about every presidential/ dictator…Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the like. Hell he probably vacations in Afghanistan at a Taliban retreat. They'd make a great couple of anti-American Americans

  21. 21

WTF? r u kidding me? Ramzan Kadyrov is the one who rebuilt Groznij after it was practically fully destroyed during the war, he made Chechnya safer and lots of people are happy to live there now. Yes, he`s rough but he should be like that in the country where extremism is like a culture! Don`t believe all the crap you hear.

  22. 22

Not the brightest person. Paid to attend swanky events by dictators…..but she didn't know. Yeah, right.
