Barbie Gets Tatted Up!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

Bad ass barbie

Uh oh! Barbie went and expressed herself with some permanent ink and — what a surprise — parents are pissed!

A new collector edition Barbie doll called "tokidoki Barbie" not only features the iconic blonde all tatted up, but (GASP) with dyed pink hair!!!

Now parents are worried that the doll might inspire their kids to shop at Hot Topic become, like, total punk rock anarchists and Occupy Wall Street one day!

A few of the parental complaints include:

"If I give it to [my daughter] she will think [tattoos are] okay. She may want to go get some."

"It's teaching kids to want tattoos before they are old enough to dress like that."

Mattel, who partnered with El Lay fashion company Tokidoki on the limited edition doll, doesn't think the product warrants any controversy and said in a statement:

"Barbie has sported an endless array of styles. Many of Barbie's most pop-culture couture outfits have been designed for the adult doll collector. The Tokidoki Barbie is a perfect example of a limited-edition doll sold through select retail locations."

One thing is for sure though — controversy sells!

The new Barbie is available through BarbieCollector.com for $50, but anyone looking to make a purchase will have to wait until November because it's SOLD OUT!

Guess a bunch of kids stole their parents credit card and already ordered theirs! LOLz!

Seriously angry parents, take a chill pill. We doubt Mattel is marketing a doll that costs more than a month's worth of allowance to your children.

They might, however, be marketing it to adults who can actually afford the doll! If that's the case, our country is going down the drain because they're actually old enough to go out and get a tattoo! Ha!

Do U think angry parents are overreacting to Barbie's new look or is Mattel secretly brainwashing America's youth to support the permanent body art industry?

    no thanks.

  2. 2

    Yay! An Illuminati Barbie…disgusting.

  3. 3

So its ok that a doll teaches girl about unrealistic unattainable beauty but tattoos is where the line draws? LOL

  4. 4

Of course tattooed barbie will make little girls what tattoos. Barbies have been skewing the body image of little girls since day one.

  5. 5

    I love this Barbie.

  6. 6

Re: NookiesWA – Thats what I thought!! lmao God forbid Barbie have a tattoo on her unrealistic-to-achieve body….

  7. 7

Yeah, teaching kids that looking different is something awful and that tattoos mean you're scum is a great lesson. There are going to be people out in the world who choose to look/dress differently than the norm (thank god), and people should be respectful of that. No matter what age.

  8. 8

I like this Barbie. Why are tattoos not okay? I mean sure, it would be stupid to get one extremely young because you may regret it, but I doubt this doll will do any harm. These people will complain about anything. Try tackling the impossible body she has- girls may try and fail to obtain that and it may fuck them up even more than a tattoo ever could.

  9. 9

Come on, Mattel. You really didn't think this doll would upset parents? Then how about a gang-banger Barbie. Or cracked-out Barbie. Hey, if you're pitching real, then do real.

parents are definitely over reacting. Parents are leaving toys and tv to teach their kids right and wrong when it is their responsibility to teach their kids…and provide for them

Looks like Diana Agron a.k.a Quinn Fabray :/

  12. 12

OH wow… cutest freakin barbie ever!!!!
Sorry but I am a parent and the fact is our generation has tattoos… it is more odd not to anymore.. so what's the problem she is adorable.. I'm buying one for my daughter today… and yes if she wants a tattoo she will get one.. **when she is 18 lol**

  13. 13

Re: dreamboat – yes because all people with tatts are cracked out gang bangers… you're an idiot

  14. 14

Girls with tatts are fcukin gross, why the fcuk do girls think that crap is so fcukin attractive?

  15. 15

I'm confused, why are dolls supposed to be influencing kids? Oh wait, they're not. That's the parent's job.

Also, this quote is stupid "If I give it to [my daughter] she will think [tattoos are] okay. She may want to go get some".
Solution: don't give it to her. Idiot.

  16. 16

I LOVE the collector Barbie dolls myself. They've got some AMAZING ones out right now (check out the Artist Series right now — the daVinci is stunning) and these are not meant for little kids. They are for those that actually collect them. Tokidoki is also insanely popular right now as also demonstrated by the Tokidoki makeup line that Sephora is selling right now. I see nothing wrong with this doll. She's adorable!

  17. 17

yet it is ok to let barbie "teach" your children that it is normal to have huge blown up tits, a tiny waist, unrealistic thin long legs and a perfectly pinched nose job?!? Get a life! If these shitty ass parents would spend time with their kids instead of leaving that to tv and such then maybe we wouldn't have so many bratty little bastards running around!

  18. 18

    LOVE IT!!!!!

  19. 19

I see where Mattel was going with this - the whole "we embrace individuality and all personal choices," but this was a really poor avenue to go through. I think it's a great idea, but taking into account how influential this doll is and has been, there is some validity in what parents are saying. HOWEVER, it is perfectly within a parent's realm to tell their child no (god forbid!) and simply not buy the barbie. Or (another god forbid) they could sit down with their kids and talk with their kids about why they deem tattoos "inappropriate."

  20. 20

Lick-n-Stick tattoos have been around for a bajillion years. Kids are already screwed. Let Barbie have her tattoos.

  21. 21

God, no wonder this country is going down the toilet.
It is just becoming filled with uneducated trash now.
And you wonder why the rest of the world is kicking your a$$ and you can't get jobs.

  22. 22

thanks but no thanks my girls are not getting one

  23. 23

I have a 4 y/o daughter who likes Barbie. Not an obsession for her, but likes her. She's a hero in her own movies. Diplomatic, fun, and a leader. She's not the Barbie of yesterday. But she has always been wholesome, and this is just… too… Monster High. No thanks.

  24. 24

No sorry that is just not right. Tattoos may be in with some folks now (not me, when I grew up only sailors had tattoos) but this is a bad example for kids. If this is truly a collectors doll then no problem since most folks will not shell out for it.

  25. 25

So what do parents WITH Tattoos teach their kids about having them?

  26. Mtl23 says – reply to this

    26

I would buy it, having tattoos doesn't make you a bad person. Lots of people have them, you just cant always see them plain as day.

  27. 27

I'd get this Barbie. I'd buy it for my daughter if she asked for it. Some parents just need to take a chill pill and get over their own insecurities about their parenting skills. If they taught them "right," then their children wont want tattoos and who cares if they do, it's not their body.

  28. 28

I'm a parent of two kids. My daughter is 3 and I would not mind buying her this doll. The tattoos don't bother me (of course I have them). Both of my children love fake tattoos. They put some on today. I don't however like that the pet is called Bastardino. That could have been named something else.

  29. 29

    Illuminati Monarch slave Barbie.

  30. 30

Holy hell then don't buy the doll for your kids dumbasses! If they rely on toys to teach their kids, it's their own fault how they turn out. I don't see anything wrong with it, how is it any worse than Barbie as a big boobed, twig thin, bleach blonde girl? I personally think this one should be brunette, I know of no blondes that are that awesome.

  31. 31

Well if you don't want your kids to have it, don't buy it for them. I think the doll was more geared to the adult doll collectors than the kids and it's better than some other dolls out there. I have seen some kids at where I work with some scary dolls…like the Monster high dolls they emo and anorexic….like why would a parent buy their child those dolls

  32. 32

So again, somebody please tell me WHY it is considered bad to have tattoos? Are these people saying that people with tattoos are bad? And if so….WHY? I know a lot of tattooed people and they are genuinely kind, nice people. They may look different, but so what? Its their body…they can do whatever the hell they want with it. Yay for them for daring to be different. Its kind of refreshing if you ask me.

So basically, its okay to teach your kids that you need big boobs and a tiny waist to be pretty. And its okay to teach your kids that people with tattoos are bad?

I think this is the coolest Barbie I have ever seen, and if either one of my daughters wants to grow up and turn 18 and have pink hair and tat themselves up exactly like this, they will have my full support. i

  33. 33

Ah big deal… She isn't the first "Mattel" toy to have tattoos. HE-MAN had dragon tattoos on the 2004 action figure :)

  34. 34

lol and you don't comment on the fact that the little cactus dog's name is bastardino?

  35. 35

I had a beach barbies with a tramp stamp. Barbie having tattoos is nothing new.

  36. 36

how is havin a tattoo a bad thing, or make you a bad person. I have tattoos for loved ones who have died and for things that have inspired me in life, if anything tattoos allow people to express their personalities and be an individual instead of a follower. if you were actually a good parent you would want your child to be open to all types of individuals and you would teach them that tattoos are fine when you are old enough to make the decision and live with the choices…its a doll people get over it and stop bitchin about everythin in life & learn to enjoy and except it

  37. 37

We all knew Barbie was a whore.. and now her overly tatt body proves it.

  38. 38

    Re: dreamboat

I'm going to hold out for LezBarbie, Porn Barbie (after all most of her body parts are fake), and the Kim Kardashian Barbie (bent at the knees, mouth wide open, and permanent pee stain).

  39. 39

Re: Heaven_Oblivion_Bliss – That makes her entire life about Ken :P

  40. 40

Sometimes I pay Barbies with my 9 year old little sister, and she pretends the "Mattel" stamp on the back of their necks are tattoos. She would love this Barbie, because it actually has tattoos. Point is, kids already know about tattoos. Kids know what they are, what the mean, and that they are permanent. If you are a parent and think otherwise, you are either sheltering your child from the world, or just plain ignorant. I dont see a problem with a Barbie having tattoos - because she isn't real. She is something for them to PRETEND with. And honestly, how many of your children have ever had a temporary tattoo, or face paint, or even had a friend draw on their hand?? Hello people, that is essentially the same thing.

  41. 41

The fact that parents are so annoyed by this, annoys me. And it teaches your kids to bully in a way, By not accepting this barbie, they're saying that people who look like this, are not acceptable. I assure you, tthat when they get older & whether you want them to or not, theyre gonna be old enough to make the decision to get a tattoo & it's not because a barbie came out when they were young. This society is getting piercings & tattoo's every day, & most are very influenced by their surroundings. What about the mothers on these TV shows putting their 3 yr olds through competitions….fake teeth, spray tans, pounds of makeup, & ridiculous outfits, botox….? No one has a problem with that but god forbid a different barbie comes out, it's the end of the world. Continue teaching your kids that being different is bad &there's going to be a lot more suicides. Get al ife people, it's a barbie.

  42. 42

Ahh more parents that can't parent, that except the rest of the world to raise their children for them. Thats all this is. Shielding your children is so nice. If I had a daughter, I'd buy it for her..if she asked about the tattoos I'd tell her they are permanent and they end up looking shitty. She can't get one until shes 18. This doll having tattoos is irrelevant.

  43. 43

Re: KDIZZLL – …. and girls (or people for that matter) that use the "F" word every other word are SO attractive…. right?!

  44. 44

Oh please I used to love stick on tattoos when I was little hut I'd never get one now! If you're child is influenced by a Barbie I seriously think you need to re evaluate your childs mind and your parenting skills!!! Also what's sooooo wrong about tattoos? Should we accept everyone no matter what their style?! F*ck off!!!!

  45. 45

BUY YOUR TOKIDOKI BARBIE @@@ TOKIDOKI STORES OR ONLINE @@@ TOKIDOKI.IT… THIS BARBIE KICKS ASS

  46. 46

I can't believe so many people get pissed about this kind of thing. It's real easy repeat after me "if I don't want my child to have it I do NOT have to buy it" get over it. Besides what parent wants to pay 50 bucks for a barbie for a child. I wouldn't. If this doll was cheaper I would get it for her. I have tattoos and for mw to deny her to have toys with them is wrong on my part. She knows that she can get a ratio at 18 if that's what she chooses and not before. She has used fake tattoos and there is nothing wrong with that.

I would like to slap the parents that say this is so wrong. Again if you don't like it dont buy it for your kids.

  47. 47

    Re: sampsonbeach

I agree those shows do more harm then this toy does. I will never understand why anyone would allow their child to act like the girls on those shows. It makes me sick. My oldest saw the show once asked about those girls and I let her know ASAP that i will not allow her to become a spoiled brat like most of those girls.
When she asked about getting her a tattoo I had her watch a video of someone getting a tattoo. That stopped that right there.

  48. 48

no no no! I'm new to the Portland OR area, and I find myself (own hair color, no tattoos) feeling outcast because I don't have a tattoo or pink hair. This is NOT the way for kids to have pressure (Thank God I'm not a kid!). You know they want to do what their friends do and what is "cool" at the time but unless it is a temp tattoo it doesn't just go away. Pink hair can be fixed but still…. not the way to go for kids.

  49. 49

yeah, because getting a tattoo is the honest to god worst thing your child can grow-up and do.

  50. 50

sigh, these parents…. then when their kids grow to adolescent bullies, jump counters to attack people, these parents claim their child is innocent, when in truth, the parents have taught them how to bully since that age of 4

Sure, for now tattooed people are bad, but once a tatted up paramedic, nurse, doctor, add-other-jobs-here saves their child life, I'm sure the tattoos won't matter then

  51. 51

So how the fuck are tattoos a problem? These people sound stupid as hell.. what makes this bitch or anyone else think tattoos are wrong?.. they will want it either way when they get older if they want it.. fuck shit let them have the barbie if they want it.. get them fucking sticker tattoos till they can decide on their own you sufficating backwards bitch..Re: NookiesWA – fucking perfect statement..

  52. 52

Re: live2beach – You sound backwards as hell.. no shit not for kids… it is just a fucking barbie.. they can decide when they are older what they want and there is nothing wrong with colored hair or tattoos just because you don't want them ya damn hater..

  53. 53

    love the new Dyke Barbie!

  54. 54
