ABC's Getting Its Own Sopranos

The alphabet network has plans to put an American version of the Italian drama Anti-Mafia Squad into development.

Squadra Antimafia has been on the air since 2009 in Italy and tells the story of mafia families wrapped up in a war on the streets of Palermo after the arrest of the last godfather. The series centers around two women on opposite sides of the line: deputy chief of police Claudia Mares, who joins a special anti-mafia squad, and young Rosy Abate, a member of one of the oldest criminal clans.

Sounds dark and twisty, but then again, how gruesome can things get on network television. If this were cable, even basic cable, we'd expect to get some more action out of this. But if you're looking for real gore and crime, we think you should stick to watching The Sopranos on DVD … or the Real Housewives of New Jersey!

Joke! Kidding! Maybe just a little.

Wow, whoever is in charge of programing at ABC is a nut case. There already is a show on a cable channel that is called Mafia Wives. I watched it a couple of times and it's just ok. I wouldn't watch a show like this on regular tv because they can't possibly put storylines out there with the real life stuff that could go on in the mafia world.
