Scotty McCreery Has Microphone Malfunction AND Lyrical Flub During National Anthem!

| Filed under: Christina AguileraMusic MinuteOops!ZportzAmerican Idol

Wow! Singers REALLY have trouble with the National Anthem, don't they??

Check out the video (above) of American Idol's Scotty McCreery performing the National Anthem at the World Series…and experiencing both a microphone malfunction AND a lyrical flub!

For those of you who want to get right to the flub, Scotty accidentally says "No Jose" instead of "Oh Say" at the 2:57 mark.

We understand that mistakes happen, but at least Christina messed up a somewhat more complicated part of the song. Scotty should have gotten these words right.

What do U think? Is Scotty McCreery's National Anthem flub excusable???

it sounded like "no-ho say" more than "no jose", like he exaggerated the 'no'.
but god i cant stand his voice.

  2. 2

Thats how country singers sing. Its styling. He didn't mess the lyrics up, so just stop.

  3. 3

I think he is a talented young man, did not here the mistake if there was one.

  4. 4

I'm not sure he messed up, but who the hell appreciates that style of singing anyway?!? I'm a Georgia native but I'm the first to say that this style of singing is gross, redneck and nasty.

  5. 5

pretty sure that's just the country way of singing it…he didn't mess up. not really a fan of his voice, but he did sing very well.

  6. 6

Oh god he is so fine, I wounder if he likes cougars

  7. 7

He didn't do very well. His pitch was ALL over the place. They should have asked Lauren Alaina…

Ugh…just awful…also just proves my point: The Amer. Idol talent and winners suck…bottom of the barrel….they get booted from their record labels or wander in to the land of "never heard of" again….Two exceptions…Carrie U. and Kelly K….those girls are actually talented….sad, that this show continues to get ratings and people vote for these people more than for the U.S. president….dumbing down of America is in full force! SAD!

  9. 9

I didn't hear no jose, idiot!

  10. 10

I agree with JulieAndrewsWorshiper. And does this mean you'll start calling him "racist" for supposedly saying "no jose", Perez? Seems right up your alley to assume as much.

  11. 11

he says "and oh say" which sounds like "no jose" but his accent covers it

  12. 12

so he added an "n" in there…. big deal! Good grief man.

  13. 13

Singing through your nose isn't easy. Country twang gives me a headache. Who the hell is watching that crappy show and voting for these loosers?????

  14. 14

He was probably humming his pitch to himself with his tongue on the roof of his mouth before he started…which would make the first syllable to leave his mouth "n." I don't really condone it, but, technically, it's better for the voice than a glottal attack.

…Not flubbed. I really wish people would stop creating drama. Gracious. It's hard to get up and sing such a powerful and difficult song in front of so many people. Stop bullying and get a life.

  15. 15

No flub there. I hear his southern accent coming through, but he did not make a mistake.

AGUILERA'S "EPIC" PERFORMANCE WAS AMAZING, CAUSE SHE TRULY HIT THE SPIRIT OF THE ANTHEM,HER VOCAL JOB WAS GREAT, SO I DON'T CARE ABOUT LYRIC FLUB

THAT RACIST HILLBILLY HICK SAID IT ON PURPOSE.."NO JOSE" DUE TO IMMIGRANTS..HE NEEDS TO GO SIT ON THE ELECTRIC FENCE HIMSELF SO PIZZA MAN HERMAN CAIN CAN FRY THIS SORRY HATE-FILLED ASSWIPE.

  18. 18

Re: Whoaaa – Learn to spell if you're going to insult someone, it will be much more effective. The word is *losers, not loosers.
    Re: PHARO – You're an over-dramatic moron.

  19. 19

Christina completely lost her place in the song, all he did was pronounce it differently… and it sounded nothing like "No Jose" you idiot. If you're going to bitch about something bitch about the fact that he wasn't in tune. Given the technical malfunction forcing him to start over though I think he deserves a bit of a break.

  20. 20

why do you americans care so much about a bloody song? with all the things going on in the world does it really fucking matter?

  21. 21

Sounded to me like he said "No" and realized he was wrong and then said "Oh Say" to try and cover it up. I could see how No - Oh Say could be mistaken for No Jose but there is really no reason for anyone to even remotely think the name Jose should be inserted anywhere into the anthem. Maybe the Anti-Mexican people would rather it say "No Jose" but that would be a pretty silly mistake for a professional singer.

stars that have messed up the National Anthem: Michael Bolton, Musiq Soulchild, Jesse McCartney, Macy Gray, even Cyndi Lauper messed up like a month ago. It happens. Christina was just the only one who was treated like she was the only person to ever do it or like she burned a damn flag and purposely lost her place to offend people. And she recovered better than any of the above examples ( you can watch them on yo.u.tube, Michael Bolton had to write the words on his hand, Musiq Soulchild pretty much just created new worlds altogether haha) I didn't even watch this video but I'm not about to hate him for it mistakes happen.

in my last comment I meant to say Cuba Gooding Sr. was the one who practically made up new words

  24. 24

    boring boring one note singer!!

how can a winner be such a loser?

  25. 25

Listened to it twice - that didn't sound like a lyrical flub … it was that country twang "no-hoh-say does …"

  26. 26

Re: PHARO – If he did then good for him! ILLEGALS keep taking all of the damn jobs and getting CITIZEN benefits.. GO SCOTTY!!! And if you don't like the way he sings, or good ole country mucis, then don't listen.. I'm sure f*** that b***h, kill that h** probably sounds better to you huh?

  27. 27

Re: msloriga – I'm a Georgia native too, and I'll be the first to say you're in the minority down here.

  28. 28

    Re: NOLAgurl2010 – amen.

  29. 29

what do you expect from a white trash redneck hillbilly? lol that cracker can't sing at all. ugh. his voice annoys me. he just sucks.

  30. 30

Re: WhitePeopleLookUgly – AND YOU NEED TO BE ED-JU-MA-CATED!!!

  31. 31

    That was no flub.

  32. 32

Well….I don't really think that was a lyrical flub…. I think he was using the "n" to try to emphasize "oh." The country style can lean every so slightly on the deliberately-sloppy side, and the "n'oh say" doesn't sound so out-of-place in that context. The only thing that really bothers me is his lack of a logical phrasing structure, the chopped-off ends of some of the "compositional phrases," and completely uncontrolled vibrato. The National Anthem doesn't need to be a "melisma-fest," but it should still be performed with the appropriate energy. This sounded more like an impersonation of a country singer singing the national anthem than a performance with conviction behind it. I'm glad that he had the courage to perform it a cappella, though. The one thing I'll give American Idol credit for is helping to end lip synching among young popular music stars.
