Drive Lawsuit Drama Continues! Lawyer Explains Why The Movie Is Anti-Semitic

drive lawyer explains antisemitism in movie

For those of you just joining us on this absurd story, earlier this month we reported that a Michigan woman is suing the distributors of the movie Drive.

Her lawsuit reads as follows:

Distributor FilmDistrict promoted the film Drive as very similar to the Fast and Furious series of movies. Drive bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film… having very little driving in the motion picture, Drive was a motion picture that substantially contained extreme gratuitous defamatory dehumanizing racism directed against members of the Jewish faith, and thereby promoted criminal violence against members of the Jewish faith.

Now, her lawyer has posted on a film blog about why he thinks the film is anti-Semitic. Here are some highlights from his lengthy explanation:

"…Even in the genre of gangster movies, these Jews are portrayed in an unequivocal racist way."

"[They were] cartoon one dimensional Jews in Drive, right down to the gold pinkey rings, gold watch, and thick gold chains, that only a "senior citizen Jew stereotype" department could have come up with…"

"When the gangsters embody most, if not all false negative Jewish stereotypes, that's racism. The whole Nino/Izzy slur, straight from Nazi propaganda, about the Jew never fitting in, but always trying to mask his identity. Or the false racist canard about Jews being a threat to the Christian child. Both incorporated here, neither necessary to be a gangster. I could go on for each of the Jew hating steretypes that the Jews in the movie 'just so happen' to embody."

We still stand by what we said before. It was a fantastic film, and we don't think it was Anti-Semitic just because the gangsters happen to be Jewish this time, as opposed to The Sopranos where they were Italian.

What do U think? Is Drive Anti-Semitic???

Let me guess… Jewish lawyer, right? This is the weakest lawsuit ever. For someone who claims he is offended by Jewish stereotypes in the film, he sure seems to be feeding the old Jews-Love-Money™ stereotype. Don't pretend to speek for your people when all you care about is money, honey.

Perez, if this was a gay issue about the movie, you'd be backing the person up. You sometmes don't give a shit about race (Sean Avery's racism but "support" of the gays), and gender, but if it had to do with homophobia you'd be going all crazy and supporting the other person. I just don't get you sometimes perez :/

I didn't see the movie so I have no idea about anti-semitism, but when the women wrote that there was very little driving/racing, it's like, are you going to sue the makers of the Sopranos because there was no singing?

That's like saying The Godfather is racist because it shows Italian mobsters. How many movies are out there where Middle Eastern people are terrorists or the antagonists in movies? A lot. There are going to be some form of stereotypes in almost every movie created, people need to accept that or not see movies.

And as for suing about the movie not fulfilling her expectations of a driving movie, if you'd rather see Fast and the Furious, go ahead, but I feel sorry for you. Drive is so much better on every level.

I didn't think jewish AT ALL when I was watching it.. I just thought mobsters who own pizza places… probably italian.

    Anti-semitic is old news.

Let`s talk about the much more prevalent Establishment-approved ANTI-WHITE!

Africa for the Africans,Asia for the Asians, white countries for EVERYBODY!

Anti-whites push the genocide of white children via mass immigration and "assimilation" in >allonly

So this would mean that nobody would EVER be able to portray ANY kind of people EVER in movies because it's racist to portray people? So no italian mobsters anymore, no african american young men standing on street corners selling drugs, no hispanic young men in gang related situations, no asians or indians in stores, no muslim terroists and no jewish mobsters EVER in movies?? Shiz, we'd have to ban people completely from movies then, if this nutjob's argument would stick.
Also, she must not have been watching the same movie I did, this is one of the most brilliant, subtle yet bursting with emotion type of movie I've ever seen. The car chases weren't why it's called drive, they were a part of him driving, the drive came from Ryan's characters' drive to do the things he had to do. Sheesh, you can't sue because you were too dumb to understand a movie. I hope this b*tch gets pummeled in court and gets stuck having to pay the bill afterwards. Anti-semitism my *ss!

It's not real life. Movies are FICTION. If they bring the antiseptic wipe to every movie for every group for every damn line uttered, no one will go to movies anymore. Please give the audience a little credit to be able to sort out what is ok and what isn't. Allow people to exercise their own judgement.

    Get a grip. Oye!

She'll be found not to have standing to sue, so whether it's stereotypical or not won't be addressed. It would have to be libelous to her as an individual and cause her demonstrable harm to be actionable.

The filmmakers are protected under the First.

I hate people like her. Honestly.

BS, for once that the bad boys aren't Italian…!
