Terrible.

A massive 7.2 earthquake has hit eastern Turkey where officials say at least 85 people have been killed.

Dozens of buildings collapsed, bringing down large chunks of steel and concrete to the ground, as the quake hit the region at 1:41 pm local time on Sunday.

Tens of thousands of residents were said to have fled into the streets, running and screaming, trying to reach relatives on cell phones.

Survivors were seen digging through rubble with their bare hands to rescue those who were trapped and injured.

Mayor of the town Ercis, Zulfikar Arapoglu says:

"There are so many dead. Several buildings have collapsed. There is too much destruction. We need urgent aid. We need medics."

There has since been eight aftershocks, including two with a magnitude of 5.6. Officials say the death toll could rise up into the hundreds and thousands.

So tragic. Yet another horrible natural disaster. We hope the people of Turkey can get the help they need as soon as possible. All those who are affected are in our thoughts and prayers.

Re: Yenkme – Not to sound like a bitch but I really wish America would stop playing Captain Save A Hoe! Like that's a REALLY mean thing to say but that's how I feel! Out of ALL the countries in the world why do we always have to help?!! No one ever helps us why do we have to help everyone every time?!!

Turkey is not a poor country and can help herself but countries like Azerbaijan,Israel,The USA,The UK and Greece have already offered help for the victims of the massive earthquake!
Every country should support one another in hard days because humanity comes first!

  4. 4

    Re: pie107 – Very true.

  5. 5

Yeah NO ONE ever helps america, they wish badly upon us. yet when they suffer, they expect US.

  6. 6

Israel offered Turkey her help, just like she offered in the big earthquake they has in Instanbul in the 90's, AND EVEN THOUGH at the moment the countries face disagreements. Turkey refused. Their loss.

  7. 7

The Turks have no problem with slaughtering Kurds, invading Cypress, destabilizing the Middle East in a new take over bid, the genocide of 1,500,000 defenseless Armenian civilians, etc.

Perhaps a bit of Karma in action?

  8. 8

Re: Elron Hubbard - Con Man – Agree with everything you said.

  9. 9

i think you don't know anything about turkey . you think turkey is not poor. But an earthquake isn't about money! and if a country wants to help turkey , they wont stop for you.

seriously, all of you are crazy idiots, this is incredible!! It's an earthquake… what do you mean karma bitch?? if you wanna talk karma that came over america with all those hurricanes, that;s probably all the karma from all the invading in the middle east, where ever there is oil to find!! shut your butthole if you don't have anything nice to say!!

  11. 11

Re: Elron Hubbard - Con Man – then karma is a b***c considering the earthquake affected one of the biggest armenian cities when there were so many turquish ones where to choose from.

  12. 12

Re: sevgi – Hey, you stupid whore, you trash those who say Turkey just got a taste of karma then you proceed to say karma was responsible for the hurricanes in the US? Well, fuck you! America shouldn't give a fucking dime to any country except Israel and England. Those are our only two friends in the world. Every other country can fuck off and believe me when I write that most Americans feel the same way as I do.

  13. 13

The earthquake took place in the part of Turkey where Kurds live. The only reason Turkey is refusing help is because they have no need to help the Kurdish people living there. The families living there are poor and have no help or support from the Turkish government. Don't believe everything you read/hear. These people are suffering because of Turkey's selfish, heartless ways. It breaks me to see the Kurdish people hurting like this.

Re: pie107 – No one ever helps you…? 9/11? Californian bush fires? BP spill? Wars in several countries? Even freakin' Iran sent humanitarian aid and 20 million barrels of crude oil to help you out after Katrina hit. Pay attention.

  16. 16

what is your problem, guys??! yeah, maybe turkey has made lots of mistake about the issues of kurdish and ermenian but the earthquake is not about country's politic. Hundreds of people have died because of the earthquake but you're talking about karma!!! are u aware that you are acting like fascist and fascizm is the one of the biggest crime in the world???!!!!!

  17. 17

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – Agree with everything you said! as an Israeli, I think, Turkey for example, isn't worth our help, I think it's stupid that we even offered our help, they treat us like shit. America should offer help aswell, because, trust me, Turkey's president will call America "Israel's assistant in killing innocent people" afterwards…it's a waste of time. Except that, they refused taking help from countries that offered it. So let them handle it by themselves.

Re: sevgi – Just did a quick check of your profile/last 5 comments and it seems you think Casey Anthony didn't murder her baby daughter. So, you are an absolute fucking moron, huh? Are all the people in Turkey as dumb as you?

Re: iGotNoIdea – Turkish -Israeli relationship can not be ruined by a bunch of politicians.Politicians are temporary but history is permanent.Turkey is one of the countries that recognised Israel as a state and no need to mention that they welcomed so many Jews who were about to be executed in Spain in 1500s…and Israel helped Turkey so much as well! Both countries are aware of these facts and they will always be there for one another no matter which goverment is in the power!

Re: Moogle80 – "An article in the April 29, 2007 Washington Post claimed that of the $854 million offered by foreign countries, whom the article dubs "allies," to the US Government, only $40 million of the funds had been spent "for disaster victims or reconstruction" as of the date of publication (less than 5%)" Just b/c someone says they help doesnt mean they actually do, and that's only Katrina

  24. 24

Re: iGotNoIdea – Thanks, chaver :) I still don't think America should offer help. Who cares if Turkey accuses us of being Israel's partner in crime? Israel has been kicking ass since it was created. Jews kick ass and are an educated group wherever they roam. Those who talk shit on Jews are merely jealous of your success. Fuck them…

    28

seriously you guys, what the heck is wrong with you? don't get me wrong – i like america very much (live in germany) and i have nothing against americans but in my country, when something like that happens, we are devastated for the people's loss whereas many of you just seem to start a stupid fight about history and politics (and by the way, many of you just don't seem to have the real clue). who the heck cares if there was a genocide like 100 years ago? we certainly shouldn't forget about that but taking this as a reason why you think turkey deserves something like this? REALLY?
as a german citizen, i don't need to remind anybody of my country's past. still, we have changed. most of the people are ashamed of what happened back then and as someone, who often travels to turkey i can assume that most people there are modern, nice, polite, intelligent and ashamed of some of their history as well.
and when we start talking about an earthquake being a thing happened for karma reasons, america seriously has some bad things in their past as well. just mentioning george w. bush.
it just makes me so angry that something like an earthquake and people losing their lifes is used for a stupid, pointless debate on one's countrys past. it's the past. they evolved.

  29. 29

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – Took me a while to understand what you mean by saying "Chaver" haha [it's pronounced in a special accent sooo :P ]
Anyway I agree. America shouldn't offer any help. It's not her bussiness anyway.

  30. 30

Re: sevgi – LOL!! People LIKE YOU make my day!! Just because you live in a certain area or CLAIM to go to a certain school doesn't make you better than anyone else. You give off this vibe like your above and beyond everyone else yet your're cursing like a little kid and writing like a third grader. Don't get mad get educated! My comment was in reference to the fact that America has to much to deal with at the moment, and that I didn't think it would be a good idea to help. Stop taking offence to everything and act the age you claim to be.

  31. 31

Re: mimey – Thank you! These are just ordinary people who are suffering and in shock. It is not political. Earth quakes happen because of movement in the earths crust, hurricanes happen because of weather conditions - there is no karma involved.

Re: pie107 – America is not the only country that helps. American media may portray it that way, but it is not the case. If you want true coverage of world events tune in to the BBC, CBC, or Al Jazeera, and you will see how skewed American coverage of world events can be.

  32. 32

Re: pie107 – Whahee, a Wikipedia quote, how random! Iran didn't 'say' they did it, there are documents that say so. And you might want to add that help WAS offered by many countries, YOU just didn't accept or collect everything that was offered to you. Doesn't change the fact that other countries did indeed reach out to you.

  33. 33

Karma is a B%&#@! I don't feel sorry for them at all!! If you can be heartless enough to slaughter innocent people and shove a knife into a pregnant lady and kill her unborn child, then u deserve this and many born. Hope all of them not only die but have fun burning hell!

  34. 34

Re: pie107 – Also, don't call someone a' third grader' when they've just told you English is not their first language, especially when you manage to write down " good thing YOUR not an English Major". Re: sevgi – het zijn een stelletje eikels, typische domme Amerikanen :) And Re: Eldridge Cleaver – happy to hear you smile a lot :) My point was that she was purely talking about evidence and that you need evidence to convict someone. What you think and feel about someone doesn't really matter in a courtroom. But I agree, I think she got away with murder as well.

  35. 35

Re: Moogle80 – "YOU just didn't accept or collect" once again I do NOT speak for an entire country I just gave my opinion and i'm sticking to it. My opinion may not be the right one and be completely wrong but it's mine, you can have your own

  46. 46

Re: pie107 – Yes, like I said, it still needs some work. In that last case it actually left out several words. Anyway, back on topic, I'm sure plenty of countries will help Turkey, this isn't the first time they were hit by an earthquake. Last one was in 2010 and they got help from all over as well.

I just hope the turkish people can get all the help they need, because in times like these everyone needs help, and it's the local citizens that need the help… it's not about countries dealing with their international issues once again… enough with it already! whatever international conflicts turkey and israel and america have, they just need to put their pride aside and look at what matters most! the people that got their votes, the citizens!

  54. 54

    HAARP.

  55. 55

So sad. I'll be praying for those that have lost family and friends.

I'm not sure why people choose to argue during a tragedy. I guess people care more about past issues than the issue at hand-the loss of innocent lives.

  56. 56

I just saw people apologize in the comments, I must be on the wrong site.

  57. 57

Re: DntWorryBoutIt – lol can you send me an article or proof as to what the hell you are referring too??? I'm Turkish and I need to know if thats something I can't control one day. Should I rid my house of knives, I don't want to accidentally stab women in the stomach and kill their baby!!!!

  58. 58

Re: Valerie1988 – When Bush first sent troops to Iraq, Turkey was one of the FEW countries that sent troops to help with the war..Research before you speak….."A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the country, while grateful for offers of aid, is prepared to handle the disaster on its own". GUESS WHAT they don't even need our help…so calm the fuck down!

  59. 59

Re: sevgi – Eldridge does NOT speak for Americans! He speaks only for himself, and he's CRAZY!

  60. 60

wow, the earthquake strikes and immediately discussions sway towards karma and politics. how predictable. for the record no one helps US because US would not accept any help when and if offered regarding itself I suppose as too powerful to accept any help from other not so powerful countries. so you only have your politicians to blame who instead of helping their citizens spend time "bringing democracy" around the world, meanwhile poverty is on the rise in US.
as for the karma - first of all its not karma, its a result of tectonic plates moving - perhaps if you have educated yourself at least a little bit you would understand. secondly, following your logic what about all the typhoons, hurricanes and etc constantly bombarding USA? you guys really get a lot of that - are you that bad that you deserve so much nature disasters?

  67. 67

Re: mimey – Hey, I am from America and I completely agree with what you said.. I don't think this earthquake is karma on them or anyone else because than that would be the reason for all natural disasters I guess.. some people need to study science.. but all this hate throwing back AND forth is completely unnecessary… not ALL of Americans are brutal or feel that way..

  68. 68

Re: Moogle80 – Wow.. really cute, you talking shit in your own language with that c ù n t like it can't be translated.. wow.. and you were supposed to be reasonable? Don't expect anyone to be nice to people like you if that's the kind of shit you are going to be saying about a whole entire nation, when not all Americans think that way in the first place.. you guys are just as hateful as the people you are talking shit about.. you are not better than anyone else.. especially that other bitch going crazy, acting like she is so much better.. how sad, someone can look so beautiful and but has a black heart such as that..? Can't believe you guys are talking shit about America.. acting as childish as hateful as you are.. if you would of just said how you felt and stuck to being polite like mimey, then I'm sure people would take you more seriously.. fucking hypocrites..

  69. 69

Well.. i'm done with this post and not coming back to read more meaningless, hypocritical dumb shit.. people can't even wish this country well wishes.. just he said, she said, i'm better b.s… peace!

  70. 70

It's kinda sad to see that my fellow Americans can be this cruel and can be this ignorant. All countries have skeletons in their closets. And not just countries, even human beings. We all do terrible things at some point in our lives. We break hearts or we lie or we deceive.. Race or country doesn't make a difference, us humans are famous for our ability to do awful things. That's why Christ said "He Who Is Without Sin May Cast the first Stone" But we are also able to do great things. If we keep on living in the past, we'll never get to the point of doing great things. Yes, Turkish people might have made some mistakes, so did the Kurdish, and so did the Armenians, and so did Americans and so did the Germans and so on and so forth. The list can go on forever. Mistakes are there for a reason, to learn from them. But I'm 99% certain that none of the people who are suffering right now had anything to do with any of those mistakes. It is cruel to say "karma is a bitch" when there is an innocent little child being crushed under a building. Anyone with an inch of a conscience should know this. So it's time for prayer and aid. We must remember that in the time of need, it's not an option to help the ones who need, it is a duty. For a better future we must learn from the past and learn how to live together in harmony, with no more fights over religion, race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Forgiveness will free your soul.

  71. 71

No ofense people but some of u r so F stupid. I mean common on the onne who think american shouldn't help are @@@@. If u know what I mean. We r all human and were all the same. What if your place where u lived there was an earth with that powerfal u would IMEDIATE ATTENCION!. I mean HELLO SMELL TRUE LIFE. RIGHT NOW WE SHOULD HOPE FOR THE BEST 4 THOSE PEOPEL,KIDS EALDERLY.

Re: Vigilant Phantom – You missed the bit that said that Google translate needs work (as in, didn't actually translate what I said)? And the bit that can't be translated (but definitely understood if you speak Dutch, hell, some 14-year olds even spell like that) was an example of that? Besides, loads of people slam other countries on these boards all the time. If someone from Canada has an opinion about something American they're usually told to f-off. And if I disagree with someone because he or she believes no one ever helps the US, even after having given several examples other countries do, then yes, that, in my opinion, is a dumb American, as are most people here who've said Turkey shouldn't get help because they 'don't deserve it'. Had he or she been from Germany, it would've been a dumb German. Re: JigSaw – Thanks for, again, proving that Google Translate doesn't work properly, that didn't make any sense at all.
