Tom Cruise Is Offended Fans Think He's Too Short For New Movie Role!

Tom Cruise Size Doesn't Matter

Tom Cruise, who has never really failed to deliver in an action movie before, is facing doubt from fans over his latest role.

Despite the fact that the Mission: Impossible actor was hand picked by author Lee Child to play the character Jack Reacher in the big screen adaptation of One Shot, people are criticizing Cruise because he's too short!

The novels describe Reacher as an intimidating man standing at 6 feet and 5 inches tall. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, stands at about 5 feet and 7 inches.

So how is Tom taking the short jokes?

"Firstly, I'm very sensitive to it," the mega star shared in a recent interview. He explained that Child gave him his blessing after watching an audition, continuing:

"This is Lee's book and Lee's character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn't then I wouldn't have done it."

Cruise is also a firm believer that size doesn't matter, saying:

"Lee told me that the reason he wrote him that size (6' 5") is because that was just one element to his character, and that opened the door to me playing him."

Any fans disappointed in Cruise's casting as Jack Reacher aren't spoiling any of Cruise's enthusiasm for being cast, however. The actor seems pretty darn excited to bring the literary character to the screen, adding:

"Reacher is such a great character. He doesn't have a cell phone, he doesn't have email. He's off the grid. He pays for things in cash. People look at things through the prism of the colours of their life, but Jack Reacher does things the way we want to sometimes. In that sense he's sort of a Dirty Harry, a James Bond, a Josey Wales."

In Tom's defense, this type of outrage happens all the time. Batman fans weren't exactly thrilled when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker either. Tragedy aside, his performance surpassed ANYBODY'S expectations!

In the disgruntled fan's defense — yes, Tom is short! LOLz!

Fans can complain on the internet all they want (feel free to do so below), but we see this as an opportunity to win over the public by proving them all wrong. Or further ruining his public image (thanks mostly to all of his Scientology scandal). Either way, we're looking forward to seeing what he brings to the screen!

Do U think Tom Cruise was a poor choice to play Jack Reacher or do you think he'll be able to pull the character off?

Cruise is offended??? No sir, fans of Jack Reacher are offended with this casting.

  2. 2

That's so cool. They're finally turning Lee Child's book into a movie. It's about time. He's the best suspense writer ever.

  3. 3

Love Lee Child's books, and excited to hear turning into movie, but Tom Cruise is not the person to play Reacher, probably wont watch now if its him…

  4. 4

    wow! he is unattractive

  5. 5

And we are offended by all the damage done to families by your cult Mr. Crusie. JMHO

Blah, Blah, Blah….they said the same thing about casting him as LeStat in "Interview With the Vampire" and he surprise audiences…so height, is only one factor to a character, what really pisses me off at the box office are ticket prices, actors wtih botoxed faces, and people yapping during a film, not how tall an actor is.

  7. 7

For Pete's sake - has he even read the books? The character is this hot, macho, 6'5", 250#, fair haired slab of former military muscle. Is Cruise so delusional he thinks that describes him???

  8. 8

Reacher's size isn't just cosmetic; it is significant in the way he's perceived by others and in the way he uses his size to his physical advantage.

Yes, people were upset when Ledger was cast as The Joker. The difference here: Ledger could act and he had range. Cruise? He plays the same cardboard character over and over and over…

Katies only cares about the size of a man's bank account; how many years left does she have on that marriage contract to hit the jackpot?

  10. 10

In the end it wont matter. In the books, Jacob Black is like 6'6 and I can all but guarantee I've crapped bigger than Taylor Lautner.

For the record…I would have cast Adrien Brody as the Joker but to each their own.

  11. 11

Are you kidding me? This guy is totally wrong for the part of Reacher. Guess I'll stick to the books and miss the movie!!

  12. 12

I feel completely out of the loop because I have never heard of this character or this book series.

  13. 13

Seriously? Tom Cruise? Reacher's whole demise centers on his size and dominant presence. Nothing dominant about Tommy Boy. Maybe Hugh Jackman or something…

  14. 14

Cant they just fix his size in the movies? lol afterall the CGI cosmetics lately dont see why not, or cast people smaller than him and thats it haahaha… funny. This is pretty much like the actor in Thor whos black and should be white and all the lala. In the end , noone cared and people got to watch the damn movie.

It's not the size factor. It's the CREEP FACTOR.

He could play Reacher. Book purists are understandably skeptical, but size on a big screen is subjective, really.

  17. 17

aww Tom. well hey they could use special effects maybe and make him seem 6'5" that'd be kinda cool
