And so the next generation of YouTube begins!

The website announced plans yesterday to create dozens of channels with original content from a variety of high profile producers, including Jay-Z, Ashton Kutcher, and Amy Poehler, marking its official jump into professional programming!

And it's not just celebs - Reuters, Electus, Slate and The Wall Street Journal will also be contributing!

According to global head of content partnerships Robert Kyncl:

“Today, the Web is bringing us entertainment from an even wider range of talented producers, and many of the defining channels of the next generation are being born, and watched, on YouTube.”

The new initiative will apparently generate around 25 hours of new content a day, and are expected to launch next year!

Wow! This is a ballsy move!

But if it actually works - we're looking at a whole new way to watch TV! We wonder what this will mean for cable companies?!

Get ready, social media! We predict this is going to be MASSIVE!

And check out a list of some of the new channels….AFTER THE JUMP!

>> Awesomeness, from Brian Robbins, the producer of "Smallville."

>> Car and Driver Television

>>"Life and Times," from the rap star Jay-Z

>> A pop culture channel from producer Ben Silverman featuring Nicole Richie and Justin Long

>>"Smart Girls at the Party" with Amy Poehler, Meredith Walker and Amy Miles

>>"Thrash Lab" from Ashton Kutcher

>> Madonna was reportedly planning to launch a dance channel

We have Tivo with Youtube in the UK so, this dos seem like a natural progression.

I wonder if this will affect the subscriptions/views of people that are popular on YT like Ray William Johnson, or Shane Dawson.

Nice. I already got Youtube on my Blu-ray and it would be awesome if they started their own web-TV channel. PPV might be interesting too.

That's actually really lame. I don't go on YouTube to see content rejected by TV networks and movie producers. Or worse yet, put out on YT and ignored for it's mediocrity. YouTube should be more about what the users provide for the users. That's kind of the whole point, this move just makes them more similar to every other video site.

A lot of the proposed "producers" are washed up or kind of a joke in that department, save Amy Poehler. She must have a mean gambling addiction because this whole lineup is a Celine Dion away from being a Vegas extravaganza.

I wonder if this is the beginning of the end of tv stations.

Mainstream Media is losing their buttholes to the internet.
