Gay Man Stabbed, Beaten & Set On Fire In Texas By Homophobes

| Filed under: Gay Gay GaySad Sad

gay-texan-beaten-death.jpg

Our hearts ache for this guy. We can't even imagine the pain he is feeling, inside and out.

While you were probably out have a great time at a Halloween party on Sunday, this guys was being tortured ruthlessly by bigots, simply because he's gay.

Burke Burnett, a 26-year-old openly gay man in Reno, Texas was viciously attacked by some fellow partiers this weekend when he rubbed a group of man the wrong way. Understand that Burke did nothing but arrive at the party with some friends, leave, then return with another person, a close girl friend, before he was jumped by four guys, who had no mercy to show the man they called a “pussy-ass faggot,” “gay bitch” and “cock-sucking punk.”

According to Burke (and there are clearly pictures to prove it) he was relentlessly beaten by the man in the face, before the stabbed him TWICE with a broken beer bottle, once in the back and then in the arm. They then threw his weak body into a fire, where he sustained second degree burns. He also needed to have 30 stitches to close stab wounds to his back and forearm, as well as a cut above his left eye. (above)

Unfortunately, no arrests have been made at this time, but police have assured the public they are investigating the situation.

The unimaginable things that simple-minded people will do. Just look at that poor kid. He deserves that. He deserves such violence brought upon. Why? WHY?! To make those four guys feel like men? To try and rid the world of something that don't understand, so it must be bad?!

If everything is bigger in Texas, than we imagine these guys are the biggest homophobes in our country. We hope they pay for their ignorance.

So I love everything you have to say, but do you ever proof read any of your posts? There are so many grammatical errors..

Ps- Just awful what happened to him. Poor guy

  4. 4

how do you know he did absolutely nothing but show up at the party? just because he is gay you are taking his side? not saying he deserved this…but there are always two sides to every story…

  5. 5

I am sure this guy was just minding his own business and didn't do anything wrong Perez…oh and by the way how is this aboutg Hollywood gossip, sounds more like homo gossip to me!

  6. 6

Everything is BIGGER in Texas …. including the Beatings !

  7. 7

…and Justin Bieber is screwing ’round and hav'n kids with groupies and then denying it and not taking paternity suits ! Shamefull !

  8. 8

From where I come from, those who are most afraid of homosexuality are likely hiding something themselves…hence the fear. Phsycology 101

  9. 9

Love is Love …..Get over it, ya Texas Twits !

  10. 10

This is ridiculous! Come on lets quit the BULLYING BULLSHIT. Gay or straight. We are allllll people who deserve love and respect. Find something posotive in your life and go get it! xoxo Perezee Poo

  11. 11

I keep saying it, the more people like you (Mario) push the gay agenda, the more backlash there will be. If you want it to stop, give up on gay marriage.

  12. 12

and you want another texan presidant shame shame shame !

  13. 13

rubbed a group of man? WTF you piece of trash Perez. Tell your sewer rats who write for you while you're out getting plowed how to type. I'm gay I live in Texas and I don't go around "RUBBED A GROUP OF MAN" if he did rub a man without being asked to do so he should be beat. FAIL!

  14. 14

SHUT THE F*CK UP ABOUT PUSHING A GAY AGENDA!!! Do any of you bigots remember past civil rights moments in history? Pushing an agenda would be coming up and making you be gay, which is impossible. We want equal rights. Blacks needed to get their message in and did it wonderfully. They never pushed being "black" on to someone..they just wanted to be thought of equally. We do too.

To this article…this person may have done something wrong, but that NEVER constitutes a crime like this. I hope he heals soon and can fight back against the dumb a*ses that did this!

  15. 15

Re: perez posse member 777 – Hell yeah!!!! I would bring back GW if I could!!!!

  16. 16

you say he rubbed a group of men the wrong way, but you dont give any details about what he did to piss them off. Did he touch them? Your so one sided. Now Im not saying that what happened to him is justified, but if he did something to them first then dont you think its only fair to report what he did, so we as readers can understand. Remember there are 3 sides to every story, and I find it so interesting how you Perez tend to always take the side of the homosexual, even if perhaps they were at fault. Im not against gay rights, in fact I support equality for all, but you my friend are very ignorant and quite the hypocrite.

  17. 17

Bet of those four guys, one of them has done the 'dirty deed' with a guy !

  18. 18

Methinsk those four guys 'protest too much', IF ya know what I mean !

  19. 19

MethinkS those four guys 'protest too much', IF ya know what I mean !

  20. 20

Hey Mario everytime you post something about LGBT rights you set the movement back 20 years!!!! You are not someone to emulate or take seriously on ANY political issues!

  21. 21

Obviously, what happened here was wrong. Whoever beat this guy up should be held accountable for their crimes. But, the writer of this article is offensive. Just a couple months ago, this site posted a video of a hidden camera show episode staged in North Texas with a same-sex couple eating in a restaurant with their children. You commended the people of that community for how they stood up for that family when the waitress discriminated them. And now, you're lumping all Texans together as "the biggest homophobes in our country." For as much as you preach about acceptance and equality, you are notably one-sided. Try being a little more open-minded to the community in general, instead of just the gay community.

  22. 22

And it proves that there are just steers and queers in texas….(which doesn't mean I condone what happened to the poor chap)

  23. 23

Multiple sides to every story.I feel bad for whoever was hurt, but to say he was only beaten for being "gay"…may not be the full truth. Even though he is gay, he is still capable for running his mouth or other possible shit starter scenerios. He and his friends could possibly be pulling the "gay" card, when all actuality he may have gotten his ass kicked for simple reasons as running his mouth or being stupid drunk. Or do "gay" people never behave that way?

  24. 24

Can you make a separate website for just your pro-homosexual things? Not that I have anything against equal rights, but I come here to read about celebrity gossip. Not the constant "unjust ways" gays are treated.

  25. 25

Perez, why do you still need to post to your own website? It's so sad. It looks like you already admitted that you're sunhoni. You're also curlyxqd and stephanee. Whatevers!!! and Be-atch write in the identical manner and JUST LIKE YOU! Wait, are you also Sandy93? Have you lost so many posse members that you have to write 2/3 of your posts?

  26. 26

    RAPE !

  27. 27

Y is everyone from Texas retarded? Is it the water?

  28. 28

    Halloween was on Monday…

  29. 29

Your s t o r y is copied and p a s t e d right down to the typos from another b l o g site. Un freakin' believable! By the way, two people have been arrested and the gay internet is on fire with this story. The real news story cannot be found because the alleged victim is the new cause du jour. Really, Perez! You c o p i e d this story word for word from another b l o g.

  30. 30

    For Real?

  31. 31

    ha ha

  32. 32

Re: Mad Dog – You're experiencing delusions of grandeur. Why I agree that Perez Hilton is personally polarizing society against homosexuals and personally setting the gay agenda back 10 years, we will not give up on seeking equal rights. Why would we? Society is changing fast. We'll have marriage all over the country soon and there's nothing you can do about it. You'll still be clutching your pearls wondering why the rest of society has the ability to support their fellow Americans while you can't seem to show any compassion to them whatsoever. You're losing. It's ironic that I'm the gay one, yet you're the one with the stick up your ass, huh?

  33. 33

No, no, you don't get it. It's a difference of opinion. Those who beat him up have a right to fight for what they believe in.

  34. 34

These people are a disgrace to Texas. As a gay man who has grown up in Texas, I can assure you that this behavior is not accepted in Texas. I hope you all have the capacity to understand that these idiots do not speak for the whole state. To the people who don't, you're just as ignorant as these idiots are.

  35. 35

Re: jess1z1 – I can't tell if you're joking or not. That is legally, and most of all ethically untrue. You're saying I could do the exact same thing to one of your kids if they were doing something I didn't approve of? I'm going to assume you were joking. There's no way you actually believe that.

  36. 36

Sickening behavior, people have become such parasites. Hope he's ok.

  37. 37

People are animals. Very sad what our world is coming to.

  38. 38

Republicans are stupid suckers all. They are worse in the South. They are 95% responsible for the mess our country is in. The 1% thanks them for their vote. Not that the 1% will give you a penny. Suckers.

  39. 39

Re: joethehobo – Where is the actual news story? Gay blogs have made it disappear. There is no excuse for what happened to this man. The criminal justice system needs to address this and treat it as assault, battery, hate crime and potential attempted homicide. But do we know if Burke has a criminal record? What actually occurred? The facts should come out soon since two people have been arrested. Of course, that hasn't been posted yet, just to keep the shit pot stirring.

  41. 41

    lol

  42. 42

regardless STEPHANEE, it doesn't matter what he did, if he just showed up at the party or if he provoked them, NO one deserves this

  43. 43

I am just downright DISGUSTED some of the people in this world.

  44. 44

Re: mre123 – you're just as disgusting as the people who did this to this innocent man. you'll get yours someday. just warning you.

  45. 45

Re: mre123 – i also find it REALLY funny that your icon is of osama bin laden: rot in hell, but you laugh at the same destructive, hateful behavior enacted on another innocent human being. you mind as well be a follower of bin laden in his beliefs because it's the same.

  46. 46

Re: joethehobo – But you're not seeking equal rights. Marriage is a religious rite and the church has the right to set whatever requirements they see fit for participation in it. You have the right to civil union, the government's equivalence to marriage, but you do not have the right to marriage because you don't meet the standards set by the church.

  47. 47

Re: Mad Dog – I am seeking equal rights. I want the same benefits from the law as you do. It's as simple as that. And since the right to marry is determined through the state and not the church, you are wrong in your assessment of the situation.

  48. 48

I'm sure it was still less painful than Anal sex!

    No?
    Not funny?

    ok ok…
poor guy… this sucks! people can be so evil!

  50. 50

"rubbed a group of men the wrong way"? Poor choice of words Perez.

  51. 51

Re: joethehobo – Marriage is a religious act that is not dictated by the government even thou they tried really hard to intertwine it within the government for various legal benefits. But it still is indeed a religious act. Churches do not want gays to be married, therefore they are not forced to do so. If gay marriage is legalized in a certain state a church CAN STILL REFUSE to marry you and theres nothing you can do about it.

  52. 52

Re: phoenixfreak92 – This should not happen anywhere and I am sad it happened in my home state. Most of the people here are very good people….
A few bad apples…..shame on them..I hope they get what is coming to them.

Re: Mad DogRe: NookiesWA – Yes in many cases marriage is a religious act. But we are not seeking to be married by your church. There are many Christian churches that perform same-sex marriages, but the law does not recognize it everywhere. There are several states and countries that give full rights to same-sex marriages, but there are still more that we are trying to include us in equally. Because the US does not recognize same-sex marriage, I have to pay more in state and national taxes then a straight married couple. Why is that fair? That has nothing to do with religion, but with government. If you and church don't want to marry gays, fine. But the churches that do, and couples like me — we only ask to be provided the same rights as any other two loving adults entering into a lifelong commitment.

  56. 56

Bigots in Texas giving us good Texans a bad name :( Keep it classy, guys!

  57. 57

Re: poodlewithamohawk – Really? They stole it? I see no link to the original blog. Please, if you're going to make an accusation, show some proof. If I can't believe something on this site is original because you say so, then I can just as equally not believe you because you have no proof.

  58. 58

Re: jess1z1 – So would me hypothetically kicking your ass be me expressing my difference in opinion or me pushing a "gay agenda?"

  59. 59

Religion, whatever kind it may be, isn't needed for marriage anymore. You marry someone because you LOVE them, and it shouldn't be for any other reason. It's a declaration, and a celebration of LOVE. I'm not gay, but I would want two married women or two married men or someone transgendered or had a sex change to have the same rights as a straight couple would. There is nothing wrong with that. People talk about Perez Hilton setting the 'gay agenda' back 10 years… how many years is homophobia setting back man kind?

  60. 60

Re: NookiesWA – I am aware that a church has the right to enforce inequality if same sex marriage is legalized. I'm just trying to get it legalized. The church can enforce its hate as much as it wants to, but our government should not. There are plenty of churches in most parts of the country that would honor a same sex marriage if given the opportunity, as its the Christian thing to do. No matter what your views on the subject are, you should be embarrassed to be a citizen of a country that still legally views a specific community as unworthy of equality just because of who they love.

  61. 61

Re: NookiesWA – Jews and atheists have the right to marry. Wouldn't it seem silly of you to campaign against their right to marry? How is that different than homosexuals? Actually, now that I think about it, you probably would like it if they didn't have the right to marry, either, based on your track record. Forgive me if I thought too highly of your character and moral fiber. I still forget we have people in this country who would go out of there way to stop another person's right to marry. You tell me whose lifestyle is more immoral?

  62. 62

Dannngg… he got messed up. I don't care if he's gay or not, no one should be beat up this bad.

  63. 63

"rubbed a group of men the wrong way"? Poor choice of words Perez.
Maybe so OR maybe calculated, but I LoL nonetheless …

  64. 64

I'm glad someone was offended by my comment. I was making a reference to the idiotic comments in the Christian fast food joint post.

  65. 65

a sickening crime, but at least he's still alive. just 2 weeks ago, a similar thing happened a few miles from my hometown in scotland. Stewart Walker was walking home after a party, he was attacked, beaten, tied to a streetlight, and set alight. He wasnt so lucky, and the world lost an amazing person.

Whether this guy was gay or not. whether he did something to annoy or offend the men that did this………(other than be gay) he did not deserve that!!! I hope the people responsibe are caught, and dealt with harshly. RIP Stewart Walker xx

  66. 66

C'mon people you can't be serious. It's good to know you wouldn't attack a man just because he's gay, but there definitely are people brainless enough to do. And to the ones complaining that you only want to read celeb gossip here - Perez is a celeb, and when he wants to talk about a story like this, because he feels like - well, it's his site, isn't it?

  67. 67

If there's not an attempted murder charge against the two that were arrested i'm gonna be pissed. There's talk as to whether there should be a hate crime charge but I've seen a few pics of this guy, including some of the burns on his arm, and there is no way someone would do all that to a person and expect them to survive. The assailants had to know he could die during that beating.

  68. 68

people get beat up everyday in this world what makes this so tragic? what because he's a grown man that wants to act like a girl? go give him a pity b.j. watermelon head if you feel so sorry for this fruit cake.

  69. gmk8 says – reply to this

    69

I am appalled by some of the comments here. It doesn't matter what a person does - unless these men were acting in sheer self defense (clearly not the case), no one deserves to be beaten, stabbed, and burned!! This is horrifying, and the fact that people act as though "gays have it coming" in some way because they are asking for equality under the law….unbelievable!

I have a hard time believing that "marriage" is a religious ceremony that gays cannot be a part of. First of all, there is a concept of marriage in a huge variety of religions, and officiants do interfaith ceremonies all the time. If marriage is soooo religious, why would officants be so comfortable performing marriages across different religions?

Next– take religion out of it. Let's say marriage is religious and it's perfectly fine for officiants to refuse to marry gays.

Still — our government is set up as a separation of church and state and married people are given rights under the law that are denied not married people. Whether we call it "marriage" or not, there is no way that there should not be equality available under the law.

And seriously people?? Britney's marriage 55 hours, Kim's marriage 72 days….are we really that worried that gays will destroy the sanctity of marriage??

    I am PRO-EQUALITY, PRO-INDIVIDUALITY, PRO-LOVE, PRO-PEACE, AND PRO-PERSONAL EXPRESSION.

Haters– what are you gaining from carrying around so much hate?

    70

first of all fuck all of ya'll talking shit about texas. you know nothing about the people there. i am from texas and i have NEVER met anyone who was that against homosexuality. we are just like every other state. you have the good and the bad and the ugly. what happened to this guy is terrible. there is no doubt about that, but to think that all texans are like that is just as judgmental and ignorant as you can get. these guys that did this should pay but to blame the state of texas is absolutely ridiculous! i am proud to be from Texas. there is no place i would rather be. we have a huge gay community and most of us are truly supportive of peoples rights. this isnt the 1800's. we arent all "dumb southern's" like ya'll so desperately want us to be.

  71. 71

fuck you perez…. in texas, the gay community has worked very hard to improve relationships between all people and government when it comes to EVERYONE'S rights… saying texas has bigger homophobes and bigger beatings is in itself bullying and putting down and belittling human beings…. all items you promised the "new" perez would not be doing on his gossip page… it is horrible what happened, and time will tell if law enforcement will bring justice to this horrible hate crime. but until then, shut the fuck up and attempt to bring just the facts to the forefront and leave your juvenile, immature and unprofessional comments to yourself… don't mess with texas is right… we wont put up with hate and we wont put up with you!!

  72. 72

Nothing screams the sanctity of marriage like getting paid $20 million to have it filmed and photographed! When did religion start trumping basic American rights? I'm pretty sure when you're born in this country two things are true. 1. You are a boy or girl 2. You are an American citizen. I guess I missed that clause in The Declaration of Independence where it said if you end up being born a certain way, you lose your right to the pursuit of happiness? The only thing/people that are stopping the homosexual community from obtaining equal marriage rights are religious right…Which I find funny. Like I said earlier you're born an American first, you only know the teaching of religion due to your parents forcing you into a building with a cross on it.

  73. 73

Most of the homosexual community is a non-religious group…So, I always found it funny that religious people have become that deciding factor on how a non-religious group runs their lives??? What's next, Are the Muslims going to tell the Christians how they must live, and The Jews tell the Hindus, and Mormons decide how Catholics must observe their religion???? Utter nonsense at It's finest right? I guess I'm preaching to the choir here but lastly if someone wants to get married in this country they obtain the license not from the church, it's through THE GOVERMENT!!! The Government issues licenses and people can "Choose" to have a religious ceremony along with it…and The Church isn't the ONLY place where people can get married. The Mayor of a town, a Captain of a ship, The Justice of the peace, The Courthouse, a Judge, etc may all marry a person in The United States. No one is saying that if a church disagrees with it that they are forced to have to marry homosexuals but there are obviously many different avenues for which Gays can get married, yet they aren't allowed???? Ridiculous!

  74. 74

    TEXAS… nuff said.

  75. 75

LOL A GAY MAN GOT HURT BECAUSE HE "rubbed a group of man the wrong way." REALLY MARIO? YOU MIGHT WANT TO REWORD THAT….

  76. 76

Mario - i don't see you posted any retraction to this story when it was found out he lied and was beaten up by a group of homos
