It looks like she's wearing hip pads. Could we not find anyone that actually had hips? Marilyn had a body more like Christina Hendricks not Michelle Williams. The face and hair are good but the body is all wrong.

    Thats cool!!!

I don't think she looks like Marilyn at all, to be honest. I thought Scarlett Johanson would do a far better job looking AND acting like Marilyn Monroe. And I agree with Alien, it does look like she is wearing hip pads. They could have done better casting.

Re: Alien – Mmmmmmmm. You said Christina Hendricks. Mmmmmmm.

I just see her face, not Marilyns. They should have chosen someone else. I think she is a good actress, but when I see the previews, I just see her. Its very distracting.

Re: Alien – I noticed the hip pads too. Apparently Marilyn was (in today's sizes) a size 12. But in Hollywood today, if you are more than a size 2 - you are considered fat. We need more real women in the media.

I don't mind that her face is different because, "Hey, she is an actor…not Marilyn Monroe." And obviously, for money purposes - the studios would like to use a "name" actor instead of a "random" actor. Although, I disagree with the financial reasoning behind using "name actors"…I like Michelle Williams did a great job, EXCEPT for one thing. She doesn't bring the SEXUAL PROWESS to the table that Marilyn Monroe always exemplified (whether in films, "ALL ABOUT EVE" and "SOME LIKE IT HOT". Marilyn was always seeking approval and attention and love from any and all around her which included this sense of insecurity or desperation that you can see when she would lean into someone in a sexual manner. It was very immature too in a sense. Anyways, that is only issue I really see…in the "eyes" of Michelle Williams. Maybe Michelle Williams is a little uncomfortable dancing and singing (to the extent that is done on a stage). I haven't seen the whole movie yet, thus I could be wrong in my opinion. That is it. Lol!

You've never actually watched a Marilyn Monroe movie have you Perez? First of all Michelle comes off shorter. I don't know if she actually is or not, but for some reason she looks stumpy. She's trying hard to be breathy but her voice is still too deep. She wasn't the wisest choice just because she had the best face shape. I know Scarlett Johanson turned it down but I don't think Michelle Williamson was the best choice and she certainly didn't nail it.

I only see Michelle's face too. If it was Scarlett I'd only see her face also. Marilyn had such a unique appearance and I think it's impossible to find someone that could absolutely nail looking exactly like her.

I need to see a little more. Yeah, looked like hip pads but the scene was not bad.

I love Michelle and as much as I admire her acting, she just can't pull it off. But really I don't think anyone could. The first promo shot I saw a few months ago of Michelle remaking that iconic picture of Marilyn's made it crystal clear that she couldn't hope to compare, it failed miserably. I don't think I could watch that movie comfortably and not be cringing the entire time.

    Re: rosebud99

Actually she was not. She fluctuated more between size 6 or 8 max. A lot of her sizes that are published are older british sizes which are not current.

I never understood the Marilyn Monroe thing.

  14. 14

I think she looks and sounds AMAZING!! shes not wearing fucking hip pads, she actually Gained weight for this role because shes that talented. No way Scarlett Johanson could do better, granted shes probably our generations marilyn, but she just wouldnt be right for the part, i love Michelle Williams!!!

Re: whitegirlproblems – Take a look at her hips when she is dancing and facing the camera. You can clearly see the hips pads. Look at the 26 second mark and you can see the outline. Dont take it so personally…gees.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks she doesn't look or act like Marilyn at all. The person who plays Marilyn has to be oozing sex appeal and, honestly, when has Michelle Williams ever done that? I'm certainly not saying she's a bad actress, but someone like Scarlett Johanson (or even Christina Hendricks, since people are mentioning her) would have done a far better job. Someone who KNOWS they're sexy and flaunts it mercilessly, not mousy Michelle.

  18. 18

It wouldn't matter who they had gotten to play her, you'd all be bitching about them anyway.

  19. 19

This movie is going to become a gay cult classic.

  20. 20

She's got it. I agree, her hips are too small, but I'd prefer a better actor who nails Monroe over a look-alike who can't capture her demeanor. She's simply spot on. I was never a fan of Dawson's Creek, but Williams has really demonstrated that she's serious about her craft.

To heck with this. Only Marilyn was Marilyn.
Rent Marilyn's original movies, and watch the real thing.

  22. 22

Seriously, it's awful. I hope the critics slaughter this for exact reasons it needs to be. That was atrocious. She looks nothing at all like Marilyn but I know no one could truly compare to the real person. And yes, she's wearing (probably sewn in) hip pads.

  23. 23

That is not Marilyn's voice. Why wouldn't they just dub it over if it's so wrong?

  24. 24

Its not all about what she looks like. Yes Marilyn had a very iconic image, but Michelle's mannerisms seem pretty spot on
