Pete Townshend Lashes Out Against iTunes! Calls Them A 'Digital Vampire!'

pete townshend calls itunes a digital vampire

Might wanna choose your words more carefully next time, Pete. People LOVE vampires! Ha!

All jokes aside, The Who rocker Pete Townshend is VERY serious about his disdain for iTunes, and he's saying that they profit from the music "without supporting the artists who create it."

He believes iTunes should provide the following services for its artists:

- Employing talent scouts
- Giving bands space to stream their music
- Paying smaller artists "directly rather than through a third part aggregator"

Pete adamantly believes that iTunes should "provide some aspect of these services to the artists whose work it bleeds like a digital vampire (to make money)."

Do U agree with Pete Townshend? Is iTunes a "digital vampire?"

doesn't sound like to much to ask for. however, that being said, he's an old rocker in changing times. oh well.

Pete, you have lived a life far beyond your wildest dreams.
    .
    So, shut up.
    .
And don't think we've forgotten about your arrest for child porn for "research purposes".

iTunes itself is not that profitable. If you look at what apple makes from it that really pales in comparison to what apple makes on its other products. That being said what would be apple incentive for providing services like Scouting for talent. Should bestbuy do the same. They are distributors of music nothing more. Personally I buy more music now that's it's available digitally then I did CDs. Remember when a cd was $18 at tower records. I know I do and I know I never bought music cause I was kid who's parents weren't gonna spend that much on a cd. His beef should be with the record labels.

Hey Pete … concerts make the money … not the Cd's or the iTunes . This isn't 1972 anymore. Gimme a break !

he's absolutely right that they should put more into the foundations of music…which is new talent. They make huge profits from music both directly and indirectly and should be involved in nurturing talent. Personally I would never buy apple products as theyre overhyped, overrated and overpriced! For sheep who want to impress other sheep!

He's absolutely right. Most people who love iTunes have illegally downloaded at some point, & they are the spawn of those who shoved handfulls of CD's in their backpacks before them. No regard for art or those who create it, just gimme a little electronic device & then gimme everything else FREE!
