garret hedlund to star in akira

Looks like Warner Bros has found their man!

Last we heard about the upcoming live action Akira remake, Keanu Reeves had been named as one of the top contenders to star in the movie…but nothing ever came of it.

Now, it appears that Tron: Legacy hottie Garrett Hedlund is in negotiations for the lead role of Kenada.

Don't be sad, Keanu! You've still got that new Bill & Ted flick, right?

As for Garrett's involvement in the movie, we fully approve! We think he's a good fit for the role…and aside from that, we just like to see him on screen, potentially without a shirt on at some point. Lick!

What do U think? Is Garrett Hedlund the right guy for this role???

What, NO JAPANESE ACTORS AVAILABLE???? Christ! Akira is an anime cartoon that took place in Japan. Hollywood is so fucking racist it makes me sick.

    …but he's white…

Umm how is he a good fit for the role?

    Mmmm! Love him!

as much as garrett is a great actor and i adore him, i know many akira fans that are mad about this whole americanized adaptation. they're just gonna change so much of the original in order for us americans to supposedly relate to it and it can turn out really bad. garrett will do his best though, he always does :)

'Kenada'? Is that what they're calling him?! Holy shit I hope it's just a typo

No, he's too old. They're TEENAGERS, from an orphanage! And, well, can't they at least get some Japanese actors? Why can't they do it right, set it in Tokyo and actually DO Akira? Otherwise, anything different, is NOT Akira, and should have a different title and be acknowledged as being 'based' on Akira. Not passed off AS Akira. sigh
