New Details On Upcoming RoboCop Reboot…From The Director Himself!

robocop reboot director speaks

Detroit residents may never get that bizarre statue they were asking for last Feburary, and they may not be able to avoid Nickelback's appearance at their Thanksgiving…BUT they will get a new movie about their favorite local robohero!

Last we heard about the RoboCop reboot, newcomer Josh Zetumer had signed on to write the script for the reboot of the classic 80s flick!

Now, Brazilian director Jose Padilha has opened up about the upcoming robomovie! Here's what he had to say about it:

"RoboCop the first movie was fantastic. But even if there was no movie, the concept of RoboCop is brilliant, first because it lends itself to a lot of social criticism, but also because it poses a question, 'To when do you lose you humanity?' The way it does that is by replacing body parts with machine parts, and that's very smart because guess what? It's going to happen!"

"I have my take on it. And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?"

More from Padhila about how he plans to shoot the new RoboCop:

"Listen, they gave me the job, I'm going to do it my way, so yeah, you're going to see myself in there. For bad or for good, I'm going to shoot it the way I shoot it."

And here's Padhila on whether or not he'll use a Brazilian actor for the lead role:

"We need an American RoboCop, man. RoboCop is an American guy, his name is Alex Murphy."

Thanks for the updates, Jose! We're looking forward to seeing what U do with this project!

great, so remaking Paul Verhoeven's perfect original will be result in boredom for the audience - instead of a visceral morality tale about corporate corruption and the mis-use of technology we'll get some psychological exercise in how implants and programming affect a human … they already did that back in the 1970s - it was called the opening credits to The Six Million Dollar Man

Sounds good to me. I'm going to give it a chance. Robocop came out 25 years ago. It is about ready for a reboot.

darn, i really thought Darren Aronofsky was in charge of this reboot. Disappointing!
