Brett Ratner RESIGNS As Producer Of The Oscars After Gay Slur Controversy!!!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayLGBT

Shiz just got real!!!!

Brett Ratner put his foot in his mouth BIG TIME with his "rehearsing is for f*gs" comment (watch above) - so much so that he felt the heat from all corners of the entertainment industry and on Tuesday announced that he was stepping down as the producer of next year's Academy Awards.

In an open letter, Ratner apologized yet again and he wrote:

Dear Colleagues,

Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances. To them, and to everyone I’ve hurt and offended, I’d like to apologize publicly and unreservedly.

As difficult as the last few days have been for me, they cannot compare to the experience of any young man or woman who has been the target of offensive slurs or derogatory comments. And they pale in comparison to what any gay, lesbian, or transgender individual must deal with as they confront the many inequalities that continue to plague our world.

So many artists and craftspeople in our business are members of the LGBT community, and it pains me deeply that I may have hurt them. I should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words do matter. Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted. With this in mind, and to all those who understandably feel that apologies are not enough, please know that I will be taking real action over the coming weeks and months in an effort to do everything I can both professionally and personally to help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry I’ve so foolishly perpetuated.

As a first step, I called Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast. Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.

I am grateful to GLAAD for engaging me in a dialogue about what we can do together to increase awareness of the important and troubling issues this episode has raised and I look forward to working with them. I am incredibly lucky to have a career in this business that I love with all of my heart and to be able to work alongside so many of my heroes. I deeply regret my actions and I am determined to learn from this experience.

Sincerely, Brett Ratner

Tom Sherak, the Academy president, issued his own statement, saying: "He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself. Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent.”

Hopefully we can all use this as a learning experience!

So much for freedom of speach. The gay agenda marches on, forcing people out that they don't approve of. Pretty soon we'll all be required to take "sensativity training" so we can be indoctrinated.

    The Gay Inquisition at work.

Him AGAIN? He must really want that asshole of the month award.

GROW A PAIR, AMERICA! What the heck?

Clearly Ratner is a victim of being bullied by gay people. This is why need anti-bullying laws. All the gays ganged up and forced him to resign. Now that he's backed down and claimed he's been the victim it only supports people thinking being gay is OK. He is sending the wrong message.

Quite frankly after his remark about Olivia Munn this apology is nothing more than trying save his career and not torpedo the release of Tower Heist.
The sad part isn't that he resigned from the awards it is that a lot of people put a lot of hard work into Tower Heist including the actors and crew and now it has been tainted with his stench.
I don't give a fuck that his PR people wrote him a good apology letter and he's doing a quick clean up to avoid Mel Gibson like repercussions. This guy is an asshole, he's always been an asshole, and he will remain an asshole. If the Q&A hadn't been filmed would he really be apologizing?

I'm getting tired of dispropportionate responses to people who slip up and put their foot in their mouth. Should people really have their livelihood's destroyed over saying something dumb once in a while? Its totally unfair and ironically makes the mass public more resentfull of lesbians and gays. Not to mention Hypocrite Perez jumping on the bandwagon. So why didn't you shut down your website Perez when you slanded Will i Am with a gay slur?? God u make me sick, I'd really love to beat the living shit out of you.

  9. 9

Wow, we need to stop this!! I hate this gay agenda movement we all need to stand up against them

  10. 10

And yet here you are after hurling the same word at will.i.am. At least this guy showed enough class to resign after being unfairly targeted by the gays while you refused to apologize to GLAAD and tried to spin it so you looked like the victim. You're a lowlife, friendless, creepy leech who masturbates to pictures of young boys. Gays like you deserve the hate.

Re: HAWTSTUFF – Agreed until we stand up, they are just going to keep pushing the straights down. We need to put gays back in their place — if they are controlling Ratner, who's next??

  12. 12

I can't even believe some of the people that come out of the woodwork in things like this, saying there's some "gay agenda" which has perpetuated this decision. Guess what, "the gay community" doesn't live on one block, "gay icons" aren't unanimously and equally adored by all gay people, there's no army of gay people with a pink-berretted punk bossing people around. Gay people are united by their urge to be accepted and appreciated just like any other massive group of people.

Re: AttFinch – Yes you are 100% right and we know that context is everything! We know that this wasn't some jovial jokey throwaway comment! it was a deplorable, disgusting, gratuitous homophobic slur that probably has gay people all over the world reaching for the razorblades right now!! Brett Ratner shouldn't have just lost his job, oh no that is NOT good enough! I say we tie him between two pick up trucks with some industrial grade rope to his neck and feet and see which bit breaks first! Hopefully he will split just in the torso and that ugly black heart will be exposed to the sun and dry up like a 90 year old guys scrotum! Then we should stick his head on a stick outside the offices of GLAD to remind every evil user of gay slurs that they will face retribution!!!

Re: Shaniqua Jones – Thank God…..you are so right about this. Perez is the biggest hypo of all!

Re: Shaniqua Jones – I stand and clap for you.

  17. 17

Re: Shaniqua Jones – actually i kind of like that truck idea. by the way he didn't lose his job he resigned.

Re: Shaniqua Jones – Oh please, if he said the N word or said something bad about black people, would u have said the same thing….He's crazy, he should of known better……If you people think your anit gay lifestyle is going stay around or everyone with power feels the same, then you have been fooling yourslef.. the real war is now just starting, you haters having seen anything yet, mark my words….. Gay hate is going down with the devil it self… god or what have u, is going show u, just how much it loves its gay kids, nomatter how much you hate, he still makes them and god is hoping you would get a clue…..

Re: PowerMeUp – Bitch please, sit the fuck down. That is not my arguement. He was wrong to say what he said, but a sincere apology would have sufficed. I don't believe in firing people or taking away their livlihoods for sayin shit out of turn, especially if it was a one off. And why would you bring up the N word? Why would you presume I am black? Sterotyped racist much. Seriously, sit the fuck down hypocrite and realise that the more people are disproportionatly punished for stuff like this, the more it actually hurts those that are apparently suppossed to be offended. Jesus wept, some people are just sooo fucking stupid.

    Re: Shaniqua Jones

You don't get it do you? He resigned, he wasn't fired. And I do believe you should get fired from shit like that. You know why? Because a brand (like the Oscars) don't want to be associated with people like that. Why? Because in the industry probably 65% of the people are gay, and we don't take that word lightly. Just like when that guy from Dior had to resign after all that anti-jew shit he said, because the brand doesn't want to be associated with that. Same happened when that black guy from Grey's Anatomy was fired for saying the F word to the gay guy. Because it's not something you should deal with in your work place, it's not something that's good, and Grey's Anatomy didn't want to have to deal with that kind of press. Why? Because they have a gay-audience too. Same with Mel Gibson, or Lindsay Lohan. Their careers are practically over, because of what they said or did. Nobody wants to be assosiate with them. I hope I made myself clear, and please, if you reply, try to reply with the same respect I'm giving you.
Now, I don't think there is a gay agenda, if anything we're just trying to be respected. And you know what? I will put my foot down. If someone who works for me is a homophobe, I will fire him. Because I don't want people to think I'm like that, and I don't like people like that.

  21. 21

ok his apology was sincere i get it. i'm not sure why he's not doing the Oscars but we don't know the specifics of the situation. yes gay people do forgive when people genuinely apologize so don't blame us.

  22. 22

Re: Shaniqua Jones – No honey, you take a few seats; number one your icon is a black female, number 2 just by that anyone could tell you into black females or your a black girl yourself, and you would of been offended if he said the N word and would wanted him fired…number 3 watch who youre calling racist , how do u even know if am write or not, did i say i was write… no…. honey take seat by Avril Lavigne and shut it :p………..

  23. 23

Seriously??? Okay, all you gays and lesbians that feel offended by shit like that need to chill the fuck out. No one will ever take you serious if you keep whining and complaining about shit like that. I have gay friends that use that word themselves, joking around about it and what not. This is RIDICULOUS. There are people out there that are against homosexuals, but I doubt that every single one of them wishes dead and what not upon you. Chill and stop taking yourself so serious. Women get called sluts and bitches and what not every single day. Just listen to some rap music. Am I a offended by that as a women?? NO because I 1. have a sense of humor and I 2. dont take every little shit serious that I hear. Grow up ffs. It's getting old, its getting really old. Same with all the reports about gays being beat up or bullied, that is tragic and sad, but how many heterosexual people are beat aup and bullied every single day??????

  24. 24

Re: Jaded – And why do you even give a single fuck about what he says when you think he is an asshole???

  25. 25

Re: PowerMeUp – You are a complete moron. please, just switch off your internet connection. You are clearly too imbeclic to have access to a keyboard. Seriously.

  26. 26

Re: AlvaroPizarro – Yes I completely get "it" actually, I just don't agree with it. Can I have that? And it's complete bullshit about him resigning. He jumped before he was pushed so don't be disengenuous. His position had obviously become untenable because of foaming at the mouth queens who get offended at any time someone steps on their precious little toes. Well for your information, I am a big flaming homosexual and unlike those that cannot leave the house without being offended, I took it for what it was, a frivolous and throwaway remark. Fåg has almost become another term for lame, just in the way that Gay has. Used in a certain context, fåg is offensive of course but even then I still don't think it is worth firing someone over if it is a one off occassion. If it is systematic abuse of someone in the workplace than of course that is a different issue. Just because someone actually says that word, does not mean that they are homophobic either. And I swear I hope and pray that I never work for someone as intolerant as you would fire someone for being human and making a mistake. Let's hope in your future endeavours, you never say something that offends someone and that it cost's you your livlihood. But as you are so high up on that righteous pedesatal of yours, that probably won't happen will it?

  27. 27

And what's even more fuckign amusing is that Perez actually censors the F word on his website despite the fact that he screamed it to WIll I AM….U really couldn't make it up.

  28. 28

Re: AlvaroPizarro – Oh and buy the way, the John Galliano case, yes that "Guy from Dior" was totally different. He technically commited a crime as denying the holocause is a criminal offence in France and was filmed directly insulting and berating someone. I hardly think that is the same as Brett Ratners throwaway remarkl at a press conferance. It is truly frightening if you are equating them as similar in severity.

  29. 29

the GG (gay gestapo) strikes again…enough already.

  30. 30

Re: Shaniqua Jones – thank you, thank you, thank you. thank god there are some reasonable people left in this world. as a gay man myself, i've become increasingly embarrassed and ashamed with the gay community. words only have as much power as you give them, and he clearly didn't use this word as a gay slur. it pisses me off that people have to give fake apologies every time they slip up. not only is it insulting to them, it's insulting to us a country. there are bigger things to worry about in this world than the "f-word" (can't believe people are actually referring to it as that). I don't want people walking on eggshells around me and assuming that i'll get offended at any little thing that may be deemed as "homophobic". To me that is the real insult.

  31. 31

Re: Shaniqua Jones – You are right on some parts, but Ratner should definitely not have apologized. That is where he comes across as weak. He was excercising his first admendment and has every right to say what he wants. When a public figure using words like that, it helps reinforce to general population that being gay is immoral. Look how the audience laughed and applauded — this sends a clear message to our kids that being gay is something outside of the norm, something unnatural. The problem is that people, especially in Hollywood, don't stand up enough to reinforce these ideas. If more 'heros' had used language like he did, you yourself probably would have been too ashamed to be a 'flaming homosexual.' What we need is more people in Hollywood and public figures to use language like this to help get our country back on track and to encourage kids to grow up straight.

  32. 32

Re: Mad DogRe: Mad Dog – Yeah, freadom of speach is totally gone. No, we won't have to take sensativity training, but some of us could use a bit more practice on spelling, or on not clinging to paranoid delusions.

  33. 33

    Re: retro_glamor – Hell yeah!! :)

  34. 34

What women should do then with the famous over-used phrase "son of a b*tch" and words like "wh*re" and etc…. People use those as jokes on and on and on. But when people use certain 'slurs' its like the whole world will explode. So, basically, people cant do anymore "goofy" jokes with slurs. We should all start doing some old english with british style jokes. I bet Britney will be very happy.

  35. 35

Re: AlvaroPizarro – He was ASKED to resigned, its pretty much like being fired. In fact, when they ask you to resign you have to sign a contract where it says that "YOU" are resigning by your own will…. when in fact someone else is FIRING you. This is a way to make sure the companies dont get sued and that they can do certain payment deals so you wont object and do trouble about it. For your information.

  36. 36

Re: bleahf – were did you hear he was asked to resign. could you point out the source. i'd love to read it.

Too big a fuss about a matter more properly for the word police. Ratner says sorry, and then everyone should move on.
Too many armchair hanging juries making a tempest out of a teapot.
These things take time, not stasi methods.

  39. 39

Re: @v@ – Mixing metaphors again are we? Last I checked, correct idiomatic use would be to refer to it as a tempest in a teapot. Just funnin' old pal. I think you have previously indicated as an Unum from the E Pluribus, so I should like to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving! Cheers!
