Glee's Ratings Have NOT Picked Up!

| Filed under: TV NewsBusiness BlitzGlee

glee ratings down even more

Unless the DVR ratings are absolutely fantastic when they come in, things are unfortunately NOT looking up for Glee.

Back in October, we reported that ratings for the first three episodes of the season were down 21% (minus DVR numbers).

Now, the ratings are in from last night's episode of Glee, and we're bummed to report that the show finished in "a distant second overall" in the 8 pm time slot with a 5.4/8 rating.

While second place isn't necessarily what you'd call BAD, yesterday's numbers also mark a 29% loss from Glee's ratings one year earlier! Ouchie!

We understand that lots of people are probably watching on DVR, but the fact remains - ratings are down A LOT from last year.

Let's hope they pick up soon!

hmmm the gayness set in. people finally realized how blah it is…

  2. 2

Glad to hear this. Never watched the show even once, but it appears to be HORRID.

  3. 3

This is the 1st season that has totally sucked! I really hope they pick it up!

  4. 4

This f@gfest is getting CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you God.

  5. 5

I think when it started out, it was a family show. Now, it seems to be all about pushing gay themes and other left-wing causes, and insulting middle American values. So, of course, ratings are going to go down.

  6. 6

I only watch this show for certain characters and storyline, maybe they just need to stop over doing it with some characters like Kurt/Blaine… had enough with them. The other characters are just as talented, especially Naya Rivera, wow she's amazing.

  7. 7

Re: ParisIsBurning – You're very vulgar.

  8. 8

the problem is the WRITING and the fact that they never let anything simmer or build any tension… they have TOO MANY characters and are rushing to many story lines.

  9. 9

people are now sick of this insipid karaoke nonsense. Only girls and gays are still clinging to this wreck. Godawful music that belongs on some amateur musical theatre stage and a bunch of mediocre musical actors pretending theyre popstars! Only Lea has a decent voice but she's strictly musical theatre.

  10. 10

It became too much about the gay story lines and the characters became characachers of their original selves. Too much gay agenda, not enough substance and content.

  11. 11

It used to be about good music and having fun and being young, but now, seems it's all about broadway, old songs, and young people acting really old. The show is getting boring. I am sad to say that i was a big fan of glee, and even the episode of rachel and finn getting it on … wasn't doing it for me. I am one of the viewers who as just stopped watching glee, the music isn't good anymore … sorry to say that, but it's the truth!

  12. 12

I think people are just sick of tv in general. All of the new shows are crap now. Netflix may have gone up on their prices, but it's FAR cheaper than cable. Almost every tv show that is worth watching is on there.

  13. 13

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!! This show was never good and you can only sing so many songs before people start getting sick of it.

  14. 14

The fad ended two season ago…
Even with characters losing their virginity didn't bring up the ratings.
Only Perez is talking about the show.

  15. 15

Maybe now Hollyweird will realize "gay" doesn't sell!

  16. 16

Re: ParisIsBurning – LOL well said!

  17. 17

    1. Music themed shows are over. I am really curious how American Idol is going to do this year.
    2. Ryan Murphy is a one season wonder. Saw this happen with Nip/Tuck as well.
    3. The show was geared to families and kids, although I know that was never the original intention. Too many adult themed storylines and America is still not ready for gay themed storylines and TV shows that are on the major networks.
    4. The show and cast are over exposed. It also, seems like they are running out of material for this cast.

  18. 18

it's a crappy, creepy show that's like watching crappy, creepy lip-syncing from you tube with more production costs.

  19. 19

It used to be a good show. This season there is way too much meanness and bullying. Setting fire to pianos and no repercussions? really? Puck falling in love with Idina menzel…really? The new kid getting shoved against lockers and bullied cos he's Irish…really? Just not plausible, and weak storylines this year bordering on sensationalism or "shock" factor. It's almost like a kid with ADD. This whole idea of two glee clubs sucks - sorry Ryan, I just don't see how it's gonna work. And I've yet to see any chemistry between Chris Colfer and Darren Criss. Zip. Zilch. nada. It's just not believeable to me.

  20. 20

Gay-themed shows that are written well with real characters and plot lines are doing very well. It's irresponsible and abhorrent that mindless and heartless people who see how teenage suicide rates are on the increase, would take a substandard/gimmicky piece of trash such as GLEE and continue to use the slurs against gays as the reason for the decline in its ratings as though gay is a fad that is on the way out and doesn't "sell" any more and the masses have switched off to. Grow up you ignorant fools and wake up to the responsibility that we each have to raise the pressures and pain caused by needless prejudice.

  21. 21

    Cancel it!!!

  22. 22

Re: LauraYahnke – If thats what it takes to get your point across (especially a very important point) than who cares if a few toes are stepped on. Especially the toes of people who's opinion isn't important or relevant at all!

  23. 23

Re: rhinna – for freaking real.

  24. 24

the thing about glee is ryan murphy turned a special show from season 1 into a preachy all guest star themed episode show in season 2. Season 3 is SO much better but people have stopped watching because of the awfulness that was season 2.

  25. 25

Too much adult content at 8pm. the Producers pushed the envelope and now the will push themselves to cancellation. If you want to talk business, cause that is what TV is, then the business plan failed. If this was on at 9pm or if they did not push the envelope at 8…could have lasted years, good show, dump producers!

  26. 26

you all need to stop bitching just cause its not your type of show does not mean other people dont like it! yes i agree so far this season is crap but its only 5eps in. i record it an watch it, i keep every ep on my foxtel box till i get the dvds and as a gay man im glad we get story lines like kurts an blaines i would have loved to have shows like this when i was growing up would have made it alot better. seriously all these people who bitch behind their computers i would like to see you make a show an have people bitch. you americans are totally screwed you have shows like the kardashians and that is a total crap fest yet you all keep watching!!! if you dont like it why do you read things about it an comment??? and all these gay comments are really sad cause it shows that you all have closed minds just cause its not for you doesnt mean you gotta put other people down. we are all human no one better than anyone else!

  27. 27

It's because of a few things:
    1. Horrible writing that completely lacks any degree of subtly or tension.
    2. There are way too many characters — they need to stop bringing in all these random ass characters for no reason and focus on those that they have.
    3. Too much focus on Rachel/Finn and Kurt/Blaine. The former are horrible people together and even worse apart and the latter EAT airtime simply because they're a gay couple and Ryan Murphy as an EXTREME bias and it overshadows any of the other characters that aren't divas (like himself) or gay (like himself).

  28. 28

Re: gavmish – Go tell Oprah…

  29. 29

Re: lucasgbj – crybaby! geesh…. wipe your eyes and quit sniveling.

  30. 30

Holy Crap!!! Let's just agree…. The show SUCKS!

  31. 31

Re: lucasgbj – lol youre gay? nuff said. Youre its target audience now. gays always accept crappy tacky entertainment. Look at the shit u see in gay clubs!

  32. 32

Season 1 was awesome… it was risque and the content was actually on the mature side. Now, they've made it into a family-friendly show with constant gay-themed episodes. The music also sucks now. It's just terrible. Ryan Murphy ruined it.

  33. 33

it's the DVR, I always watch it online, people watch glee just see the trending topics every tuesday they all talk about what happened on glee

  34. 34

    that's because this season sucks….

  35. 35

I used to watch it but not anymore because:
    1) The music now is shit. Who cares about old theatre songs??? Boooooring.
    2) SAME plot…enough already with coach Sylvester trying to fuck the glee club…too much.

  36. 36

Re: Lasqueesha – you sound like an expert on what people "see in gay clubs"

  37. 37

I loved Glee the first season. It was new, refreshing and fun to watch. But the second season, overly preachy and annoying. Even as a gay man I found the gay bullying storyline to become tiring quickly.

Another major problem is they relied on gimmicks to get ratings (special guest stars, themed episodes). In season 1 they picked songs that related to the plot, in the second the picked plots that related to the popular songs they wanted to use to get more ratings.

  38. 38

I still watch the show because I remember loving it so much in the beginning when it was still upbeat and had great songs. Now it feels like they are preaching it to death. It's flat out boring now. The songs are all boring and over the top. Not as fun as they used to be. And I never thought I'd say this about anything; the gay themes are just too much. Everybody is gay on that show now. It's sad, because Glee was awesome in the beginning. I really hope they snap out of it.

  39. 39

Yes, the show is pushing the gay stuff way too much! Parents do mot support this and it soes not matter what their kids think parents are the ones who pay for cable…hollywood needs to stop the push to shove the gay theme down middle america/canadas throats…we really dont mind the occasional thing like desperate housewives (gay couple storyline…but it wasn't rammed down your throat it was just there) stop making such a BIG DEAL out of it and making it a frigin STATEMENT like HERE I AM !!! like it is a big deal…if you want to be accepted a normal then make it a normal storyline and normal life! Thanks I like teaching my kids gays are normal people not strange dramaqueens and eccentrics like they always seem to portray them on TV I hate that…

  40. 40

You should know by now that when you support something it always fails. Glad to see the public has spoken and wants this gay crapfest off the air.

  41. 41

Honestly the show is boring now ! I enjoyed last season, but this one is just a snoozer.

  42. 42

i agree this season has been boring , i dont like the music
and i dont feel the love, im annoyed with the second club , retarded.

please bring back glee to what we all fell in love with!! lets do what we did last season and the 1st!!

    43

  44. 44

i think it´s all about musical theatre right now! I love it, but most people don´t understand many jokes and songs, so they get boared
