According to the actress' publicist:

"The relationship just ran its course."

"Ran it's course" also means after 4 years she was probably pressuring him to get married and he was not having it. She is older than Hilary Duff and Hillary is married and pregnant. Hayley probably always wants what her sister has…a career, a husband and a baby on the way.
