Dr. Who Is Coming To The Big Screen!

We know this show has quite a huge fan following, so we are not going to surprised if this news excites more than a few of you.

Doctor Who fans are getting some pretty exceptional news today. A long awaited big screen adaptation of the hit UK show is finally in the works. The famed series ran from 1963 to 1989, but has since made a comeback due to the rebooted 2005. Apparently, it was a better homage to the original than the new Charlie's Angels was.

Anyway, the GREAT news is that producers at BBC aren't taking any chances with this one. They've called in a heavy-weight director to helm the project, someone who knows all too well about direction a fan-frazed film. David Yates, who has a few Harry Potter movies under his belt, will take on the project, but warns that his team is really going to take its time into transitioning the beloved series to the screen. There will be no half-assing this, but that means it could take awhile.

Well, do you want it fast or do you want it done right?! LOLz! We're sure it will be worth the wait.

Actually Perez, most fans of Doctor Who are not happy, because we're being told that this movie will have little to do with the actual franchise.

I guess you should probably stick to stuff you actually know about. You know, that useless crap about people who shouldn't actually be famous like Kim Kardashian and yourself.

This is only a rumor. Nothing has been confirmed yet. If they do make a movie, I think it would be best to do it as a prequel, with the FIRST Doctor as a young man. Show what happened to the Doctor's home world, and why he bacame the time travelling Doctor. In the 60s series, we see the first Doctor as an old man, so there is alot of time before that which they could cover with that character.

Actually, Who fans are not happy about this. David Yates has NOT been brought in by the BBC - David Yates has said he's trying to acquire the rights to do this. Yates has also said, it won't be based off anything the current series has done and is doing, and will not be using any of the Doctors from it. He has said he is going to take the basic premise, strip it down, and start from scratch. Which is terrible.

Oh, I was excited until I read these comments :( This sounds terrible. Why mess with something that doesn't need changing? Dang Perez, you got me excited for nothing.

Unless this is done by some Brits, and people that are already or have been involved with Dr. Who, I suspect it will be a massive failure.

Re: caffeinatedangel – Why is he trying to do this?!

I'm not interested in watching a feature film version of the Doctor unless Stephan Moffat writes it and either David Tennant or Matt Smith plays the Doctor. Otherwise I think the BBC should leave well enough alone. Just look at what they did to Torchwood!

  8. 8

If they had done this during David Tennant's time in the TARDIS I'd be orgasmic about it but with this cast? If its true I'll wait for the DVD.

not happy at all. there's only on doctor left if there gonna do a new one and if they plan to do it with Smith, you can't do it without Moffat or Davies!

It's Doctor Who. The Doctor. NEVER Dr. Who. Who is not his last name.. it's a question. His name IS Doctor. The Doctor. Doctor who?

That said- the movie will be fun like fan fiction is. Possibly. Maybe. But certainly not what I'd expect- it's got a Fantastic thing going now- why would anyone want to start over with ANOTHER new Doctor and set up?
The Doctor can regenerate 12 times, that's 13 Doctors. We've already seen 11. I really doubt the BBC will allow this to go ahead. That'd ruin the TV series continuation into the future with 2 more Doctors. Unless the movie goes into The Doctor's childhood.
Anyway, whatever. It's just a story. Both Doctor Who, AND the Movie concept.

  11. 11

oops, I meant ONE more Doctor.

  12. 12

hmm no, maybe it is 2. The first one doesn't count as a regeneration. So, yes, there will be 13 Doctors, 12 regenerations. 2 more Doctors we can watch. Ah whatever. It's all good.

Re: misslorilou – Ugh this is so true. My poor Captain Jack…. David or Matt. You can't take a new Doctor to the big screen. Yeah I was excited, not anymore.

I was so pissed when I heard about this. I do not understand why he would not have anything to do with the t.v series or have people who have worked on the show previously (or do work on it now) included in either behind the camera or in front. Clearly Perez does not understand that MANY Whovians are pretty pissed about this. Yates fucked up the Harry Potter movies (I will admit I do adore them, but it is the little things he misses that jusy annoy me). This Doctor Who movie should NOT HAPPEN AT ALL. If it was going to happen, I think RTD should either help write it and the current Doctor (Matt Smith) should be in it.

  15. 15

I totally agree with Demode that it could work if they go back to the first Doctor as a young man. I think I would watch the Doctor steal the TARDIS.

For those of you who want to see RTD once again write Doctor Who, did you see how he destroyed Torchwood? It was beyond terrible! I don't want RTD anywhere near the Doctor anymore especially since Moffat is doing such an amazing job. I'm not trying to take anything away from RTD, I just think his creative interests are with other projects and he has a 'been there, done that' attitude with the Whoniverse.

Since, I'm among Whovians, when River regenerated with the Doctor in the "Let's Kill Hitler" episode, isn't he unable to regenerate now (making him the last Doctor)?

Saxyroro: I know! Torchwood on Starz made me sad watching it. They ripped the soul right out of Capt. Jack!

Steven Moffat response to the Yates Doctor Who Movie :

'Announcing my personal moonshot, starting from scratch. No money, no plan, no help from NASA. But I know where the moon is - I've seen it.'

    Re: pareidolia

Rule number 1: The Doctor Lies.
So even though the doctor said he can only regenerate 12 times, we don't have to stick to that. Also, we don't know if there were other incarnations of the doctor between the 8th and 9th doctor, so Matt Smith could be the last, but I doubt it. I am sure they will keep going as long as they have crazy fans like us to watch it. Which is fine by me, I could watch the show forever.

Attention writer that obviously knows nothing of Who. It's not DR WHO, it is Doctor Who and the 2005 series was NOT A REBOOT, it's the same story.
Don't write about what you have no clue about, just stick to cut & pasting stories about yourself or your boss the piglet.
