Oh No! Glee Hits A Season Low In The Ratings

| Filed under: TV NewsBusiness BlitzGlee

glee ratings hit season low

Hopefully there are LOTS of people tuning in on their DVRs!

To recap, back in October, we reported that Glee's ratings for the first three episodes of the season were down 21% (minus DVR numbers).

Then after last week's episode, we were bummed to learn that Glee's ratings were 29% lower than one year earlier.

Now, the ratings have come in for last night's episode, and the show dropped 6% in the crucial 18-49 demo, marking a season low for Glee.

Once again, we're well aware that many more people may be watching on DVR…but come on, Gleeks! Can't we show a little more support than this?!?!?!?

Are U still watching Glee? If so, are U tuning in live, or catching it on DVR???

Honestly, I'm 3-4 episodes behind. It is always the same and kind of …boring. Honestly, it would be better without Lea Michelle. She's great, but time for graduation and highlighting others.

  2. 2

Maybe the ratings are low because IT SUX!

  3. 3

I watch glee, but it really sucks. I just like to watch Heather Morris dance.

  4. 4

The show is becoming increasingly bad. Tuesday's episode being one of the worst in the shows history… and that's saying something. It needs to be cancelled already.

  5. 5

I'm not really surprised. I don't expect this show to last more than maybe a couple of more seasons. These kinds of shows just don't last a very long time. They get old quickly. It has been a good show in its first and second season, but eventually people get tired of a musical show. I don't think the writing is particularly strong either. When they replace most of the main cast next year with new people - I can see ratings going even lower.

  6. 6

We never watch anything live anymore…Our family likes to tape it and watch it later so we can FF commercials.

  7. 7

It's been quite boring this season

  8. 8

no. i'm done with show. it got really dumb in the middle of the second season but i stuck it out but when the third season came on i was finished.

  9. 9

I'm also a few episodes behind on my DVR. I just can't bring myself to watch it anymore. I think the luster is starting to dull a bit. And in this day and age more people are watching tv on their own schedule, so I would never change my life around in order to watch a show, especially Glee, that's what DVRs are for.

  10. 10

    The show got stupid

  11. 11

Even I have to admit this show isn't as fun anymore.

  12. 12

    Murphy ruined his own show.

  13. 13

That's what happens when you push and unpopular political agenda through a show.

  14. 14

Chord Overstreet coming back is literally the only reason I'm still watching this show…Murphy has driven it so far into the ground with flat characters, lame jokes and giant leaps of faith he expects the audience to make, it's not shocking the ratings suck. if it lasts two more seasons I'll be shocked

  15. 15

It's just turned into a show about sex and gays. Nothing you want to watch with your family.

  16. 16

    DVRit, i hate ad breaksxx

  17. 17

Oh come on people, season 2 was bad, but season 3 has been great so far! So much character development! So much… plot, coherence and credibility!

  18. 18

Never watched it…never cared to. It has passed it's shelf life Perez…sorry

  19. 19

Can't wait until they cancel this boring shit-fest.

  20. 20

    DVR it

  21. 21

I only started watching glee when I heard Charice will be part of the show. I finished watching season 2 before I decided to watch season 1 which I find boring. Seriously Glee has no hot guys. So many lesbian/gay scenes (no offense to gay/lesbian community) but honestly, there are more people who find these pretty awkward and sometimes hard to watch. Although I love Brittany/Santana the most, I still think making them lesbians is the not right thing to do. I also wish they make Artie dance more. He's really good! I wish Glee will put more hot actors. I now find current actors boring (except for Brittany and Santana of course). It will seriously attract more viewers especially now that the story line's pretty boring. And more Heather and Mike dance scenes!

  22. 22

This season is even worse than last. I think there's too much Lea Michele and too much Darren Criss. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some DC but it's kinda fishy how he's like the star of the show now. I know he says he's straight but I read some Blind Items that hit the nail on the head for Darren and Ryan Murphy. Anyway, this season sucks. I quit watching the show for the most part and just watch it online if I feel like it which is very rare. Why watch Lea Michele act like she's so soulful and gives a shit when you know she's a backbiting, egotistical bitch on set?!

  23. 23

    Cancel it! Cancel it!

  24. 24

People were really turned off by last season. This season is an improvement, but people are wary to come back after they heard so many people might not come back next year. Bad move, Murphy.

  25. 25

I lost interest after the end of Season 2. I saw the Season 3 premiere but haven't watched any since then. It's just not a must-watch show anymore.

  26. 26

Its just a show that pushes the gay agenda. thats it. Its not light hearted or fun at all.

  27. 27

I rarely watch shows live anymore. And even though I watch glee, it has gotten kind of old. I'm not super pumped to watch it anymore. I think they should continue the series until all of the original characters graduate then end it, just to give the remaining fans closure.

  28. 28

The show was great last night. I never watch anything live, can't stand the commercials. I think
last season was terrible and it is taking people time to come back to the show.
They need to drop the show tunes. Kids are watching and they are not interested in some of these numbers.
It has been a great show for teen, gay issues. I hope they continue with their ground breaking series.

its their stupid gay agenda….. plus the music numbers have less quality . The Adele mashup has been the best of the season and it wasnt event that good… :s

  30. 30

I stopped watching at the end of season 1. The first half of the season was FREAKING AMAZING. The second half was just….all over the place and neurotic. I realized that they had no idea where they wanted to take this story and it was nothing but musical and emotional mastur.bati.on.

I was ESPECIALLY upset when they had the scene where the Finn & the gay dude's parents moved in together and they stuck them together, and the gay dude was sharing a room and actually HITTING ON FINN!!!! I was like, WTF??? And so, Finn reacts like he should have, and he gets shamed. The shame belongs to the parents for sticking a gay kid in with someone he lusts after. That was total B.S. As a gay man I was pissed at seeing that.

  31. 31

I've watched this season shows. I'd like to see more of Matthew Morrison.

  32. 32

I can't really speak for anyone else, But I have a class on tuesday nights, so all I can ever do is watch it online the next day, and considering I hate commercials, all the better. Contrary to a lot of the comments on here, I think the new season is pretty good and I'm so glad to see other characters get their time in the spotlight. The show has however been kind of crowded, with so much always going on that there is no real time to just appreciate what is going on any given week. It just ends up feeling kind of rushed. I kind of really liked the themed quality of a lot of last season's episodes, so we could focus more on one storyline per episode. But I still feel like this season has a lot of potential the more we get into it, so I know I'll still be watching. Glee always manages to surprise me and makes my day.

  33. 33

P.S. to a lot of the other commenters out there, yeah Glee does have an agenda, an anti-hate and pro-tolerance agenda. Homosexuality just happens to be at the forefront right now in the show, probably because the writers are aware of all of the difficult issues gay teens are facing with an epidemic of bullying and teen suicides. They have also spoken out about minorities, paraplegics, disabled people, and others repeatedly in the past. You may not agree with their values or specific view points on certain subject matter, but that is the key part of "tolerance", accepting that we can all have different values and view points and are no better or lesser for them. I really fail to see how this show could be any "more" of a family oriented show. And its pretty sad when tolerance becomes an unpopular political agenda.

  34. 34

I was a big season 1 fan and then it really lost steam in season 2. I don't like a lot of the making fun of special needs kids, etc. This season it is really a chore to watch. It could be cancelled at the end of this season if things don't change?

  35. 35

This is a shame. It's getting really good! I loved this last episode. Although, Santana is a bitch and I want someone to fight Quinn.

  36. 36

i stopped watching it this season its always the same thing they get some drama between the same people then they sing ..i've just gotten sick of it.

  37. 37

    Re: mihenna – Well said.

  38. 38

Re: mihenna – They don't realize that it's because of people like them that these issues need to be adressed in the first place.

  39. 39

I always DVR - that way I can watch it when I'm by myself and not annoy my husband with singing along to the TV!

  40. 40

First a petition to stop broadcasting the Kardashians and now this?

Are people are finally coming to their senses.

  41. 41

Just more proof that anything you push and support will automatically fail. This anti-bullying and gay agenda show is an unrealistic bore, Victoria Jackson and her supporters have won. Straights need to show they won't be any homo's little bitch.

  42. 42

Re: mihenna – Well said!! Like Mihenna said, Glee is all about tolerance. From where I live, we don't hear much about gay bullying and teen suicides in the USA! I've heard about them reading Perez's blog, and it's sad that these news aren't "important enough" to be talk about in other country than the USA. So Glee is like a spokesperson everywhere in the world, and that's why I still love this show!!

Sadly, because of the time-difference and the fact that we don't have Fox, I'm watching the show online every Wednesday! Plus, I can't stand to watch it in French!!

I guess I'm one of the few on this blog saying.. "I STILL WATCH IT, & LOVE IT!". Yes, Season 2 went a little off course, but I think Season 3 has been fantastic. More focus on Rachael and Finn has been great, and bumping up Santana to "star" status has been great. Despite lower ratings, millions are taping this this show and it still does huge numbers in foreign countries and dvd sales. It's got at LEAST another 2 seasons after this one.

  44. 44

Yes, this show definitely has an agenda. To teach. I'm sick of shows teaching me. I want to be entertained. It's a shame. This show was great initally but they've blown it. Maybe Ryan Murphy is spending too much time on his other projects. He can't do it all certainly but the direction has ruined it for me. I used to never miss it and now I never watch it.

  45. 45

I watched a couple of episodes but never got into it. I was never hooked. This show is headed for cancellation in the near future.

  46. 46

    Re: joethehobo
    Well said, and thanks.

  47. 47

That´s sad I show that is so good and amazing need more rating but I´m sorry I´m still gonna watch this on internet I don´t have time for tv

  48. 48

btw this season is the best do far!!!

  49. 49

So many people DVR shows now days. As long as the numbers stay solid( steady) I don't see any reason to worry. I for one make sure I watch it on TV every week it is on. So many young talented actors.

  50. 50

I think viewers got used to snack-sized, stand-alone episodes and are having a hard time adjusting to the longer-lasting story arcs of this season. Also, character consistency can unfortunately mean character predictability, which gets boring. A wild-card like Sebastian could shake things up the way Dave Karofsky and the fall out of his unpredictable and extreme behaviour did last year…but really I just wish they'd bring THAT character back. Given that no one really knows "the real Dave", he's still an unknown quantity whose return, given his history with the Gleeks (Finn, Santana and Kurt specifically) and reputation at McKinley, could cause major *interesting* waves.

  51. 51

Re: mihenna – and now the rating are dropping. America has spoken.

  52. 52

the past 2 seasons were really good… this season is dull and lifeless… WAY too much broadway/showtunes and not enough top 40 stuff… it's no surprise that it's suffering in the ratings. perhaps if the show were to get the "umph" it had last season, there wouldn't be talk about cancellation :/

  53. 53

Could they really cancel when the Glee project is already renewed for another season? I would hope not. I would really not like losing this show. I just hope that ratings come up for this show I really do or at least stay stable(solid).
I really hope Fox would not cancel a show that has so much good to it.

  54. 54

I wish they would do it more like season 2 again. I'm a huge fan of the show, and I've been really disappointed with this season….

  55. 55

Well, Perez, the show has become bad, stupid, idiotic, and preachy. It's trying to be promote an agenda, and sorry, to say Perez, it's become too gay. And, people are tuning out because of it. It has to appeal to more than just gays to surrive.

  56. 56

The episodes this season have been hit or miss. For all their talk of consistency there hasn't been much in the way of emotional follow-thru. How can 4 main characters have sex and there be no gossip or drama afterwards? Or cliffhangers that don't pick up where they left off in the previous episode? Also, what happened to the weekly Glee club assignments? It would be nice to see the kids actually working on their craft and Mr. Shu actually giving lessons. It would give the episodes some structure. I thought last season was great, it was fun and had a lot of momentum, I don't know why they felt the need to retool it this season.

  57. 57

Might have something to do with the plot in the first few episodes. They were kind of made just to release an episode. But I doubt they'll get a low rating on the Rumour has it/Someone like you episode. It was one of the best episodes!!!

  58. 58

i still like glee and watch it, but i don't watch tv anymore. it's still too early in the season to say which season i liked more

i download glee like a lot ppl do these days — keep in mind in this generation a lot of ppl are on the computer now, so the ppl who do the statistics should check the downloads on the day it aired as well.

i dont mind the gay storyline, i think it is a very important topic to cover as i hope homosexuality gradually becomes more acceptable into society.

everyone's a critic ; i just hope the opinions that i do not agree with become too popular, as i see there are a lot of haters on this site …
