Jersey Woman Who Rented Property From Whoopi Goldberg Calls Her A 'Merciless, Cruel Woman'

whoopi goldberg landlord drama

Ugh! Between this and all that Sister Act drama, we are hearing less-than-fantastic things about Whoopi this week!

64-year-old Suzanne Lindsay is a former tenant of a property owned by Whoopi Goldberg in West Orange, New Jersey…..and she does NOT have nice things to say about her former landlord.

According to the woman, she was evicted from her home after living there for 40 years because she fell behind on property taxes, and she's blaming it all on Whoopi.

Here's what she had to say about it:

"I found myself a single mom after having three children. I was working, but I couldn't keep up because of all the tragedy. I told her [Whoopi] I had lost my children, and she sat there in front of the fire with me, holding my hand, and listened."

"It wasn't the bank [who forced me out]. They did nothing. She is a merciless, cruel woman."

Check out Whoopi's side of the story AFTER THE JUMP, and let us know who U believe!

"After I bought my house, which came with a separate lease property, the tenant tried to sell her lease to me. I made her an offer based on the advice of the real estate broker who sold me my house."

"The tenant refused — she wanted more and we left it at that. About a year later, she filed for bankruptcy in Wyoming, where apparently she had been living. My former tenant owed the bank that held the mortgage on the leased property over $350,000 and was in default on her mortgage as well as her rent. I learned of the bankruptcy when I received a notice from the court and participated in the proceeding to protect my interest in the leased house."

"I believe that in her bankruptcy she told the court that since Whoopi Goldberg owned the house and could afford it she, the tenant, should be able to stay there. The bankruptcy court disagreed and gave her time to prove she could sell her lease or fix the problem she put HER SELF in by coming up with a realistic plan, and she didn't."

"After almost a year after she filed for bankruptcy it seems that she did not receive any offers, much less an offer for anything like the $500,000 she claims it was worth. It appears that she was completely unrealistic about the value of the property. In the meantime, instead of paying the rent, or what she owed the bank she allowed other people to stay in the house — perhaps she may have been subletting while she was in Wyoming."

"In short, she turned down my offers to buy her lease and basically tried what she could to stay in the house for as long as possible without paying what she owed. I work hard every day for a living and don't mind helping my family or others but I do mind being taken advantage of. She lost the house because she did not keep her end of her lease or her loan from the bank, not because of me."

"After the court rejected her plan and told her, me, and the bank that we could sue her she told me through her sister that she was ready to move and asked me to give her a little time and $5,000 to help her move."

"Even after all was said and done, and I could have sued to have her evicted and recover the back rent, I gave her time and $10,000 to help her move the rest of her belongings and forgave the back rent she owed me. She, in turn, signed a lease termination agreement. Instead of accepting responsibility for her actions she seems to want me to take responsibility for the situation she got herself into."

    Go Whoopi!

  3. 3

Whoopi ain't going! She lets these hoes know how it is!

  4. 4

Thats right Whoopi! you set her straight. Its so disgusting how people will try to take advantage of you or drag you down because they know you have something and they don't. The woman wasn't acting responsibly or wisely in regards to her leased property.

  5. 5

Just another example of the 99% thinking that the 1% owes them everything!

  6. 6

I hate to stick up for Whoopi but something is fishy. Its the property owners job to pay taxes. Makes me think Mario copy and pasted another 100% fabricated story. Where did you get it FatHead , the National Enquirer

Yeah sorry, but Whoopi is in the right in this situation. I like how that woman threw in that she has three kids and is single for the sympathy card. If she's the one who owes the money, she should be the one who pays it.

Whoopie is right and the tenant is a crazy old bitch.
Good for Whoppie! Just because someone is rich doesn't mean they should be taken advantage of.

Re: smithygirl – F*CK U DIRTY BAGGER. I bet this woman is a lying, canaving REPUG.

Ok, so how is Whoopi merciless & cruel? This woman is a bum & what she let slide for who knows how long finally bit her in the ass. Scum like this trash trying to sponge off of everyone else & blame others for their downfall is the reason this nation is broke. She didn't deserve the 10K to cut the lease short or help her move.

  13. 13

Whoopi GAVE her 10k to move out, forgave the back rent, and terminated the lease with no penalty. Sounds REALLLLLLLLLLY generous to me! That other lady is an ungrateful senile bitch to think that just because Whoopi has the means to make HER financial woes go away, does not mean Whoopi is obligated to do so. Where do you get off thinking that? GO WHOOPI!!!!!!!!! I loved you in Ghost :)

  14. 14

This lady is just victimising herself. Gotta blame everyone else for what's going wrong in your life, right? It wasn't Whoopies reponsibility as the landlord to pay for this woman, regardless of the situation.

  15. 15

Welcome to the NEW AMERICA!!! This is just like the wall street people! What are they expecting from WALL STREET or anywhere else they are standing there shouting BS.
Go to WASHINGTON!!! There is the PROBLEM!!

  16. 16

Was she supposed to just let her keep living there while continuing to fall behind in property taxes? Everyone wants something for nothing these days. It's a sad situation, but figure it out. I would NEVER expect someone to make my problem their problem no MATTER what the situation is. Take responsibility for yourself, America! That is all :)

  17. 17

Short version: She's got Drama and Whoopi ain't havin' none. Life's touch lady, get your crap together.

Very inclined to believe Whoopi. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I'm astounded that she gave the woman move out money. User.

  19. 19

If all this is true, Team Whoopi! That being said, I can't help but think how differently this would be (much more hater comments) if it had been Elizabeth Hasselbeck instead of Whoopi.

  20. 20

If Whoopi Goldberg OWNS the house, she is the one who has to pay the back taxes. Why would the woman pay taxes on a house she doesn't own? This isn't about someone taking advantage of the "rich." It's the rich owning the house and expecting a renter to pay property taxes. All of you who rent - you want to pay your landlord's property taxes?

  21. 21

One question…. if Whoopi is telling the truth that she tried to help Suzanne and made her an offer on her home then where is this offer that Suzanne turned down……DON'T BELIEVE WHOOPI BECAUSE SHE IS FAMOUS….. If Whoopi can provide proof that she made an offer than she should provide it…. I believe Whoopi took advantage of this woman who lost her daughter to a heroin addiction (which Whoopi also battled and told this to Suzanne), Suzanne mourned the death of 2 daughters and took custody of her deceased daughters son. Whoopi is exactly what Suzanne states….. A HEARTLESS MERCILESS , CRUEL WOMAN!!!! Instead of giving her $10k to move out, why not buy her home from her and make her pay rent with the taxes included????? The reality is, if Suzanne was not threatened in someway by Whoopi or her team of lawyers then Suzanne would still be in the home, she was not in forclosure and in the state of NJ, it is NOT easy to evict a woman raising a young child (I know this as a home owner of multi family dwellings). Whoopi I am sure threatened her in more ways than one, she is an animal!!!

  22. 22

Whoopi Goldberg a merciless, cruel woman? I would say that's a fair assessment. Maybe she would have shown mercy if the woman was a racist or a rapist.
