Michelle Williams & Mila Kunis Prepare To Get Witchy For Oz: The Great And Powerful

| Filed under: Film FlickersJames FrancoMichelle WilliamsMila Kunis

Next year, the box-office is going to be all about the fairytales. We've already gotten a taste of the War of (Snow) Whites, but now, we're interested in hearing about Sam Raimi's twist on the classic Wizard of Oz.

Any theater kid in the US will tell you there is already a prequel story that explains how Glinda and the Wicked Witch came to be, but as Michelle Williams will tell you, as she is starring as Raimi's Glinda in Oz:The Great and Powerful, Sam has a very different direction for her character. The movie has just started production, but already it seems like the lady who travels by bubble will one of the highlights of the film. Michelle explains:

“In the ‘Wizard of Oz’ film we all know and love, she’s omniscient and doesn’t have a lot of human qualities,” the 31-year-old explained. “She’s not fully realized in that way — she’s not a dimensional person. That’s where she ends up, and my Glinda is where she’s starting out.”

Michelle adds that the movie is especially important to her because it is one that is close to the hearts of her family. Her daughter is an especially big fan of the classic Judy Garland film and its been an extra pleasure to bring her little one Matilda to the set of the movie:

“It’s been such an amazing move for us as a family. It’s a really happy place to go to work and a happy place for her to come visit,” Williams said. “Often — the ‘Marilyn’ sets and the ‘Blue Valentine’ sets — they aren’t really ideal places for children. She can still come visit, but she can’t really get comfortable and hang out for a while. This really integrates my life and my work in a great way."

Sounds magical!

Now, what of some of the other witches. We know Rachel Weisz will be getting her wickedness on as the famed Wicked With of the West, but what of her sister from the East? That role is being taken on my Mila Kunis, who shares Michelle's joy in being a part of this new take on a classic. She says:

"It's a bit nerve-wracking, I won't lie. It's been an amazing experience. It really has. The sets are gorgeous and stunning. Everybody in the film are amazing people and Sam's doing a beautiful job of directing it."

Sqeal!!! We can't wait to see!!!

You girlies are going to be kick-ass for sure!!!

OMFG leave the classics alone already!!!

There really isn't any talent anymore in Hollywood… people can't think of stuff themselves anymore.
    The wizard of Oz?

    This is just sad.

Luckily the Ttianic 3D trailer is there to lift my mood.

I'm surprised they haven't forced Anne Hathaway into the casting to really screw up things. It's obvious today's "stars" are herded like cattle into appearing in cut n paste scripts by no-talent writers. Why don't they cast Mila in in an original about Elizabeth Taylor? She has that same kind of beauty.

They're running out of movie ideas. I'll be watching this one for sure but wizard of oz is a classic and should be left as is.

Re: ArseLickMcBumJum – I happen to think that Anne Hathaway would make a great Dorothy.

I can't wait to see this. Ordinarily Zi would hate that they are yet again messing with a classic, but this is a prequel, nit like they are remaking The Wizard of Oz itself. And I know you said there is already a prequel out there, but not many people really know about that, so this isn't really going to ruin an image of a movie not many people have seen.
