Want To Know How Much Money Your Household Needs To Be Happy?

According to economic research, a household income of exactly $75,000 is the peak of happiness and emotional well-being.

After that, emotional well being flatlines.

While the study admits that money can't buy a mansion happiness (maybe), the number holds up for even glam cities like L.A. and NYC.

The study concludes that while emotional well-being hits its plateau at 75 G's, life evaluation does improve the higher the income goes.

Do U think $75,000 is enough?

Curious about the other factors prevelant in this analysis of the jobs that are making up that salary range demographic.

Well, that's enough is both are making that amount but together? Not enough in a big city….

    oh hell yeah

    so what?

The photo doesn't go with the story. There isn't a place in the US a family of 4 could live off of $75,000 a year and have a house/yard like that.

  7. 7

not for a family of 4..maybe for one person?

  8. 8

I"m sure its possible but it depends on how many kids you have and how well you spend your money. I dk.

Perez, I don't know about this. Orange County, beach cities, Newport, Huntington Beach, etc… you need atleast $75,000 a person to be really comfortable. I believe $75,000 for a couple with 0 or only one kid. A family of four, no way. I don't believe L.A either, you need a lot more than that.

Sweeet, I'm in college for a job that promises to pay about that a year. Hello emotional well-being, here I come!

I don't know if I agree. My husband and I both had full time jobs and made that much money and I was extremely stressed out. I am now a stay at home mom, and so much happier. I don't make as much money, but I am enjoying my life more.

Re: ketchikan9 – Well, those ESL immigrants probably got that house on a bank foreclosure deal after Whitey got transferred to China to manage the company's assembly plant.

In the majority of the country, $75K is PLENTY. I live in the suburbs of a moderate-size Midwestern city, my total household income is about $78,000 before taxes (my husband and I both working 20-somethings with no kids). We will be putting away $12K a year for retirement and donating about 10 percent of our income (to church and other charities). We feel like we are living like royalty right now. We have everything we need, and we don't have things like cable because it's a waste of money. We don't wear designer clothes, we don't always have the newest cars or technology. We have a budget.

The point is that you CAN live well on $75,000 a year, it depends on what you prioritize.

IRe: goodgirls2 – - If you are going through $75,000 a year just for yourself, unless you are saving at least $15,00/year, you are totally doing something wrong.

Re: TheOnlySmartOneHere – I live in the Midwest where my husband and I make about $85,000 a year and live comfortably. I'm not going to assume the same salary could afford a comfy life in a major city though. Friends of ours live in Connecticut and their bills are outrageous. Their small 2 bedroom home was over $700,000. Don't assume the value of the dollar is the same everywhere. The Midwest is known for it's extremely low cost of living. Honestly your post sounds very un-christian like and judgmental. Obviously you're a conservative Republican who thinks everyone else is doing it wrong.

    Not in Vancouver

I live in San Francisco and make about that a year… I have huge student loan payments though. It's not as easy to survive off of that in SF. If you have two people that make that in SF, you'd still get a crappy house. This is one of the most expensive places to live in the country though. You have to make A LOT more here to live a "comfy" life.

A 3 bedroom here in a decent neighborhood here is easily 1 mill. I'm no even exaggerating. Look it up. Unless you want to live in the ghetto, you have to have around 1 mill for a family home.

Online learning is not the complete solution for everyone, but it can help many of them greatly. You go to education with the tools you've got and one the tool is the online High Speed Universities go research yourself

    Re: girlfriend

How much DO you make for being a stay at home? Bet you are happier never having to go to work and can continue the total hoax of being a stay at home mom is the hardest job in the world.
