It may have only made a mere $139.5 million in the state, landing it in third place for the best opening weekend in US history, but Edward and Bella's undying love shook up the box-office overseas in a big way!

This morning, it was announced by U.K. and Irish distributor Entertainment One that the fourth film of the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking - Part One, broke the record this weekend for the biggest opening ever for an American film in the U.K. It grossed £13.9 million ($21.7 million), with Twi-Hards booking it to every available theater to see how the first part of the two-part story would come together.

The flick also did fairly well in Spain with Spanish box office receipts revealing that over 1.3 million tickets sold for the movie, a new high for an opening weekend in Spain for 2011.

Not too shabby, Summit Entertainment! Not bad at all!

Ugh. Losing faith in the world.

‎"Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend"
    -Stephen King

Re: girlgirl – So true. Bella is a very weak role model for girls. What this show needs is Buffy to go and vanquish all those sparky vampires.

THEN LOSE YOUR FAITH AND MOVE ON!!!!! Gosh, I used to hate Twihards, now on every site complaining HP fans everywhere, so annoying! Stop whining and get over it!

I'm not really "into" the whole Twilight thing, I'm more of a Blade and Resident Evil fan but I did like the fact that Bella is just a normal girl , slightly boring, not WAAY too attractive or stick thin, bleach blonde or sexed up girl and all these crazy things happen to her, and that's what makes her relate so much to other women.
Even though I do like Stephen King, he's comparing two totally different things, almost like comparing his film "Christine" to "the fast and the furious" or something, total different audiences and genres.. Twilight is abit of a campy movie but different strokes for different folks…

You know, even Captain America wore a helmet when riding his bike. So does Batman. Just say'n.

Re: rosebud99 – No need to yell. There is a difference between whining and simply stating an opinion. Would you prefer to have these comments censored so that only positive feedback is shown?

I seriously can not believe all the grown ass women falling for this teenie bopper shit! INSANE!

    Well this is embarrassing…

This is so annoying (especially to us HP fans) because Twilight's been taken very seriously. People don't consider it campy anymore. They consider it super legit literature that was written well and a standard (a low one) for all other books.

On top of that, we worry that the 1 dimensional characters in this book will be bad role models to young people. That they will think things like emotionally abusive relationships are ok. It was one thing if people admitted it was crap.. it's another when people take it seriously… which is what is happening!

It's also frustrating that shit like this can break movie records… when actual intelligent, well thought out concepts don't! It lowers the standards for future movies and books and what is acceptable to the public.

I have to say that this last twilight did absolutely nothing for me…not to mention that Stewarts performance was less than par. Will i go see the next one? yes, but I hope it's 100% better than this last one.

    Re: girlgirl
For somebody like me, who doesn't give a rat's a** about either unimportant franchise, it sure looks like a Hp fan's biggest problems are juvenile competitions. Guess what, in the time you waiste getting upset about the fact that different people like different things, you could have made an appointment to sign up for organ donations. Or done some volunteer work, the experience of people in need thanking you is way more touching than some super rich author or actor thanking you. And it's more fun than being jealous and hating all the time, what you guys seem to do. You pretend to lose faith in the world, yet you contribute to it by getting so upset about nothing.

Twilight is an American made movie…HP is a British made move. Therefore, Twilight broke a record for UK opeining of and American movie…HP would not fall into this category.
