We're learning more about this terrible tragedy.
Batman fans should start salivating now because Christopher Nolan has revealed some major Dark Knight Rises details that have made us more excited than ever to watch the film!
With all the big names cast and production pics leaked, we're honestly not sure what to expect in Nolan's final entry in his Batman trilogy. However, a recent interview with the director in Empire magazine has given us a little bit of an idea what we're in for next summer.
First of all, the movie is taking place 8 YEARS after The Dark Knight! We knew it would be quite a challenge for Bruce Wayne to take down a ginourmous villain like Bane, but we're sure his age-worn body won't help! Nolan explains:
"It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state. With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."
Those doubting Bane as a suitable choice to go up against the Dark Knight in Nolan's final Batman movie should be biting their tongue too. Based off of Tom Hardy's description, the villain may be an even tougher adversary than The Joker was, as the actor says:
"He's brutal. Brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."
Anyone not familiar with the comics must be wondering what that terrifying gas mask covering Tom Hardy's lovely face must be. According to the film's costume designer, Lindy Hemming, it's responsible for alleviating Bane's chronic pain, explaining:
"He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."
We know Mr. Nolan is full of surprises and wouldn't be stupid enough to divulge any details to ruin what he has in store for us, but at least we know the stakes will be VERY high as Batman takes on his toughest villain yet!
