Yummy! Fox News Thinks Pepper Spray Is Food!!

Last night the Food Network Fox News gave us an inneresting take on the UC Davis Pepper spraying incident! According to chemist anchor Megyn Kelly pepper spray is a "derivative of actual pepper."

If she had looked on Wikipedia like any good journalist, she could have avoided that embarrassing mistake.

Bill O'Reily at least got some of the effects right though: "That just burns your eyes right?" That's right, Billy! Pepper spray is just like shampoo. If your shampoo is made of chemicals that burn your throat and corneas!

thats right dumbass, everyone knows that EVERYTHING on Wiki is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. YOU do realize don't you that anyone can post ANYTHING to wiki, they do not even TRY to edit for truth, kinda LIKE YOU

  2. 2

You do realize pepper spray does have pepper. Also, if you really trust wikipedia, you're as ignorant as the viewers of Fox News that you claim.

  3. 3

uhm, pepper spray is from peppers. peppers are commonly called chili pepper, red or green bell pepper, or sweet pepper….. need I continue?

  4. 4

If pepper alone did the trick, that would be used. Pepper spray is derived from peppers. But its way more than just tossing some black pepper into someone's face.

And whatever the compound, its about its use in this situation that's the tragic story.

Re: thebigboot – Fox happens to be the #1 cable news. Maybe you should quit listening to the liberal morons who talk about fox and listen for yourself. THey have 50% liberals and 50% conservative. They tell/debate BOTH sides unlike the liberal loons on the other channels that are only liberals and LIE in what they report.

Jesus. What has happened to your spelling and grammar lately? Get some better writers!

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Fox news is right and you are wrong moron. Pepper spray is made from hot peppers. Not sure of type but there are several types capable of burning membrane IE eyes, mouth, nose, and throat. And its not an actual burn but rather the sensation. If you would have did real research rather then Wikipedia like any ""good journalist, you could have avoided that embarrassing mistake. FatHeaded Moron

    Active Ingredient in Pepper Spray

Pepper spray is often called Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray, which roughly translates to “pepper resin spray”. Within this resin is contained the active compound Capsaicin. Capsaicin is extracted from peppers by grinding them down to an extremely fine “dust”, and then using an organic solvent (such as ethanol) to draw out the compound. Once the solvent is evaporated, only the waxy Capsaicin remains. This compound is so powerful that as little as one milligram is enough to cause your skin to form painful blisters.

    How Pepper Spray is Made

In order to ensure an even spray, the Capsaicin (or Oleoresin Capsicum, as it is often called at this stage) is suspended in water (or sometimes an oil-based solution) by using an emulsifier. It is also combined with a propellant, which allows the spray to be shot outward from a canister. Once the liquid is ready, it may then be pressurized to be used as an aerosol spray.

Pepper spray, also known as oleoresin capsicum or OC, is made from the same naturally-occurring chemical that makes chili peppers hot, but at concentrations much higher. Its effects include temporary blindness, coughing and skin irritation.

To make the spray used by law enforcement officers and police to control crowds, manufacturers take a concentrated oil made from chili peppers and combine it with water, glycol (a chemical used in shaving creams and liquid soaps) and a propellent such as nitrogen, according to Bob Nance, vice president of operations at Security Equipment Corp. The company makes pepper spray and other irritants at its Fenton, Mo., headquarters under the Sabre brand name.

Pepper spray comes in several strengths, ranging from 1 percent to 10 percent OC. That's equivalent to 2 million to 15 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which is a measure of the potency of the chili pepper extract.

Re: JennyJJJ – Lets face it. CNN MSNBC and FOX NEWS are shit. No one is fair and balance. I HATE THEM ALL!

With pepper spray, especially the large canisters used by law enforcement there is a side effect no one is speaking of that will cause damage. The corneas can be frozen if it is used at too close a range, causing permanent damage. The cop in the video made a bad move. Those big cans are designed to disperse the stuff long range and over wide areas. Science tells us that when tightly pressurized gas is expanded quickly the temperature of the gas falls. Don't believe me? Go to the store and get some computer duster and hold it upside down and spray yourself. Just don't inhale it out of the can or you might end up on Intervention.

Facts have no place at Fox News. Whatever the subject Fox will twist it to fit their agenda. On my list of vile humans, O'Reily is right up there.

  14. 14

"We can't run a college this way": Yes, you can, and must. It is PRECISELY what college is for– inquisitiveness, learning, expressing. It's not the police's fault, it's Chancellor Katehi's fault. No one was actually hurt until she ordered the cops to assault students AND faculty (including former Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Hass). Terrible.

  15. 15

Excuse me, but it DOES come from pepper! That is why it is called PEPPER SPRAY!

  16. 16

Perez, did you even graduate from high school because stupid shit is constantly spewing out of your mouth? You couldn't hold a candle to anyone on that network.

  17. 17

Peppers in pepper spray???? Who knew??!

Re: JennyJJJ – you are correct jenny, fox is the #1 cable news channel, but its only a fraction of the total audience. thank goodness there aren't a lot more fools like you that enjoy watching the republican/conservatives voicebox. you're welcome to those views, just don't pretend the're 'fair & balanced".

  20. 20

Re: likewhocares – obviously he went to one of the best colleges in united states if your dumbass would've known that then you wouldn't make that mistake

  24. 24

Why is "interesting" spelled incorrectly, as "inneresting", in every single post?!?
Re: JennyJJJ – HAHAHAHA! If you think Fox News has a 50% liberal viewpoint, you're insane!
Re: BearBearBear – Yet he can't spell "interesting" correctly…

  25. 25

    Re: JennyJJJ
really you are a complete brainwashed moron is you think fox is balanced. they are all leaning one way or another but fox is basically a republican campaign channel and spend 90% of their time and energy trying to smear the president/ democratic party. In addition fox has been known to bend bend bend bend if not just mislead or mis report the truth to skew viewer and public opinion. that channel is basically the sun or some other tabloid mag that runs stories on batboy.

  26. 26

I saw this broadcast, first of all I know the difference between news and commentary. The O'Reilly Factor is commentary. With that said, I would have believed that the police were wrong until I heard the truth. First, it was the UC Davis chancellor Linda Katehi who ordered the police to remove the students. Secondly, the police were following protocol to use pepper spray before physical force. Thirdly, if I hadn't heard the full story, I would have thought that the police were a bunch of thugs, but they were just following orders, to remove the students! Finally, go to a trustworthy fact check website and research news stories yourself. Interesting how they've got NOTHING on Bill O'Reilly! So, to the Fox News haters, nobody is listening to you. Their ratings are the best! You can't argue that FACT!!!

  27. 27

read the ingrediants on the label of Tobassco sauce. It's close to what is in pepper spray. the end.

  28. 28

If you don't really know then don't make commentary on it..
Pepper spray is derived from pepper so…why not look it up before the commentary perez? That's all I ask. I'm a hater of fox too—–but…they are right..maybe this one time…

  29. 29

If you look in any medical journal or encyclopedia you will see that she was correct. Now you look like a total dumbass you LA Asshole.

  30. 30

Perez, for the love of God, just focus on celebrities. Youre a fucking moron. You really are.

  31. 31

    Re: BonerMcBone – Good point.

  32. 32

Umm, Megyn Kelly sounds like she was referring to Pepper corn, like the stuff you find on the table, in which case, she is wrong. Adding "derivative of A pepper" or "derivative of pepperS" would have changed her input entirely.

And Re: raypearson – sarcasm much dude? yikes!

Still, Fox didn't say it was harmless and edible, Perez, just minimized it's impact.

  33. 33

WOW when did Bill O'Reilly get so old?

  34. 34

damn I'd like to see these 2 geniuses get blasted full force in the face with pressurized cayenne pepper. Then let's hear what they think about it.
