Jimi Hendrix Named Rolling Stone's Greatest Guitarist Of ALL TIME!!!

| Filed under: Music MinuteKeith Richards

jimi hendrix greatest guitarist of all time

Very well deserved!

Rolling Stone has released a new list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, and the legendary Jimi Hendrix landed the #1 spot on the list!

Here's what Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello had to say about it:

"His playing was effortless. There's not one minute of his recorded career that feels like he's working hard at it — it feels like it's all flowing through him."

We totally agree, and we're also feeling pret-ty good about the runners up, which include Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, and Jeff Beck!

Who do U think is the greatest guitarist of all time???

OH PLEASE. A couple years ago you had no idea who any of these people were. They made real music, not techno synthesized artificial crap like you think is good

  2. 2

Dimebag is #93. Obviously this list is bullshit.

  3. 3

Exactly Fergie! Who the fuck is he kidding? Perez probably has never heard of half of these people. If it aint Gloria Estefan or Kylie Minogue he hasn't got a clue! You haven't heard anything outside of your ecstasy popping, waiting to give a BJ in the mens bathroom stall. ti even say that you agree with the choices is a slap int he face to people that really do appreciate those talents and music!

  4. 4

And what about Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser from BOC? Willie fucking Nelson made the list and he didnt? These people are smoking crack!

  5. 5

I agree with Fergie_beat_ and so on :P All these "popstars" nowadaways.. if they wouldnt run around looking like sluts nobody would pay attention to them - they are all so replaceable!

Re: mer908 – Dimebag should be number 1 in my opinion :)

  7. 7

Not a fan of his music but still Nugent should be in the top 10

  8. 8

Hendrix is the clear #1 on the list.
    .
    In a class by himself.
    .
    RIP, Jimi.

  9. 9

    Eddie Van Halen.

this is a list created by somebody's personal opinion. im sure if some of you(directed @ people commenting) made the list you'd obviously have a different opinion than the person who made this one.

Re: Judyg73 – I know right? Seriously, as soon as mainstream culture gets bored of something, something new and "big" will come and replace it. Personally I can't wait to see how some popstars are going to "try" and continue to make themselves "relevant".

    Carlos Santana

  12. 12

    What about Randy Rhoads???

  13. 13

    Gaga is Queen of Pop.

  14. 14

certainly it is a subjective choice, but hard to argue with it. there are many great guitarists that are comparable, and shouldn't feel slighted if not first or on the list at all.

  15. 15

i think Prince should have been in the top 5 surely

  16. 16

Jimmy Page was much better than Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix has been immortalized because of his death and remembered as better than he really was. But he was still very good. Never got Eric Clapton. BB King should be number one and Page number two.

  17. 17

"We totally agree" — Are you fucking kidding me? Not ONE of you douchettes have ever heard his work and you know it. Fucktards.

  18. 18

tommy emmanuel and Yngwie Malmsteen are legends

  19. 19

Dr.Know didn't make the list so I think they didn't look further than industry favorites.

This was nothing more than a popularity contest, Where were Steve Vai, Jeff Healey, Johnny Lang or Kenny Wayne Shephard on the list? John Lennon might be a legend, but how is he one of the top 100 guitarists?

Guitar playing and skills are subjective. Clapton is soulfully smooth, Brian May (who isn't even on this freaking voting list) is orchestrally clear and soars with incredibly fleet-fingers, and Richards is hammer choppy groove king. Van Halen is blizzard fast power chords, and so on…and where is Townsend? Beauty is in the eye, or in this case, the ear of the beholder.

Zakk Wylde is a personal favorite of mine right now. Love Mick Mars. Kirk Hammett. Robert Fripp (formerly of King Crimson.) There are too many. Subjective. Depends on what you like.

  23. 23

Ritchie Blackmore is #55? Anyone heard him play?? From Deep Purple, to Rainbow to Blackmore's Night the man is genius. He may also be the worlds archetypical temperamental lead guitarist, but that is not what the list is about!

Re: lastonestanding – Highway Star. Turn it up.

  25. 25

Definately Jimmy Page is my number 1!!!!

  26. 26

steve vai, where you at??? jamie brockett, best 12 string I ever heard, waren zevon also VERY good 12 string. i think les paul, and a few others were severely under rated. although can't argue too hard against jimi
