Nickelback Shrugs The Haters Off

nickelback peformance

Nickelback is probably one of the most infamous bands for a cult-like following of haters.

While they obviously have millions of fans as they're on their seventh album, their critics are really passionate in their dislike of the band.

But they don't give a sh*t!

According to them, the fans' voice far out-roars the haters:

We've never really been a critics' darling or anything like that. [But] the people speak. We sell a lot of records and fill a lot of arenas, and we don't hear many complaints.

Well now's UR time to talk! Love 'em or Hate 'em?? Why or Why Not?? (Don't forget to use UR #2 pencil!)

Lol Chad Kroeger got a dui a few years back.
    oh the irony.

    Nickelback rocks in concert .

I was talking to my friend about this not to long ago. When I was a little girl I remember masses loving them and their songs, and 4-5 years ago is when I started to notice so much hate for them. I was confused, even on their songs promoting togetherness, lending helping hands, they get haters on that. I understand not everyone is going to like everyone, just don't know why the haters tag along so much for this band

You know I have actually gone online to try to figure out where the distaste for this band comes from. One critic called them "boring to look at"
So they would be loved if they got themselves pierced and tattooed?
Nickleback plays good music, rocks in concert and sells records. I think half of the people that voted for the pickle are closet fans that own the albums.

The extension of hatred that is being directed at this band is no different than a social form of bullying. We wonder why the biggest problem with young adults right now is bullying, well when their parents or peers are leading by example by going to the extent of formulating groups to hate individuals or bands , here's our answer. What ever happened to " if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all"? If you don't like someone's music, change the radio station!!! But no, as adults, people are seeking out a way to spread their hatred for this band by composing petitions and forums and every form of negativity possible. If we, as a society, put this much effort into educating our children about bullying, or directing our energy in a POSITIVE way, we all wouldn't be in such a turmoiled societal mindset. This band isn't my cup of tea, but I am so tired of hearing about all the crap being said about them. If you don't like them, just don't listen to them! There are boys and there are men, let's get or damn priorities straight! Go feed starving children or something!

Rock on Nickelback. Your music may be considered pablum for the fading, irrelevant Rolling Stone but I love you. My musical taste is eclectic, leaning heavy on the alt rock side. You're being picked on for being successful just like Green Day was banished by their Berkeley "friends" when they became successful. Green Day is far more edgy and avaunt guard. Regardless, Nickelback rock hard and entertains. Their tunes are catchy and easy to scream along to whilst driving.

nickelback is awesome! i don't get why they have so many haters! >:(

I think they have haters because every single song sounds the same, it sounds like thensame guitar riffs, sometimes they might just change the chord but the same melody, tempo etc.

I loved them when they first came out, but over the years my love for them have dwindled, other bands I like have constantly mixed things up or reinvented themselves to keep the music fresh, where as nickleback its constantly the same old thing and It just tends to get boring after a while.
I'm not a hater, but I'm not a lover either. Their music is alright, but I wouldn't buy an album or see a concert, but if a song of theirs came on the radio I probably wouldn't change the station either..

People hate them because they play awful "bar" music that skanky drunk girls and doucher guys listen too. Yay Nickelback. WOOOOOO! Seriously, they're awful.

Nobody does arena rock as well as Nickelback. Fireworks, explosions, loud music, shooting T-shirts at concert-goers with a bazooka… what's not to like? Good enough for Detroit's half-time Thanksgiving Day NFL game + the Grey Cup in Vancouver = they must be doing something right.

honestly I don't understand why this Canadian band has made it big in the US. My friend said it best a couple of years ago "they are the worst band from Canada". Their music ALL sounds the same. Chad has a big ego for no reason. There is SO much better talent from Canada such as Sam Roberts (who btw is AMAZING in concert). I wish he would make it big so people can hear REAL talent. Instead we have nickelback…7 albums yet it all sounds the same. Its not about hating though, maybe if they re-invented themselves or changed their sound up a bit I could possibly enjoy their music….not.

I can't get on board with or understand 'hating' any genre of music. If you don't like it, go listen to what you like. They're strong, creative, and skilled; and truly bring it all to their live shows for the audience. "Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful Canadian groups, having sold almost 50 million albums worldwide, ranking as the 11th best selling music act of the 2000s, and is the 2nd best selling foreign act in the U.S. behind The Beatles for the 2000's." Numbers don't lie in spite of the recently displayed rudeness of some. They're doing what they love, and these guys are from a little town in the middle of the Alberta prairie. I'm glad they made it on a larger scale, and I'm glad they and a few bands are still cranking out driving rock.

I hear their latest album is racking up numbers as well.

Re: shaantiswhatiaimfor – I'm not a skanky drunk girl and I like them.

  15. 15

I'm not a "super-hater," but I certainly don't get their appeal. I know they're successful, but so are lots of things that are generic, bland, and yes, bad. Like someone else has said… all their music sounds exactly the same. Ever since this type of rock music became popular (along with bands like 3 Doors Down, Shinedown, etc, which all sound alike) I started calling it housewife rock. The point is, the entire reason they sell so many albums and why it's become so popular is because it's like rock-lite. Adults and children can listen to it without feeling scandalous or offending by its content. They feel like they're letting loose and going wild without REALLY going there will full-on sex-and-drugs-and-maybe-some-violence rock music. It's rock and roll pre-packaged for the masses. If you like it, great. But mostly what I've said is why people don't. And regardless of why SOME people might like it, the person who said douches and drunk girls like this is kind of correct. Most of the people I know that are actual Nickelback fans fall into either that category or the older man/woman or child (all of whom think this is real rock'n'roll).

The common arguments I here for hating Nickelback all seem stupid to me. All their songs sound the same? Well know they don't. Have you ever listened to say Rockstar and How You Remind Me? Not the same. How anyone can claim that is beyond me. Not when every pop song on the radio is that autotone shit that does sound the same and never does anyone bother to mention that. It is true that they DO employ the verse-chorus-verse format, but so does every other song on the radio. And it is true, that their music is not too difficult to play, but they have shown that they can play a wide range of genres and many bands can't do that, so to say they have no talent is a bit of stretch, if you wanted to say that. Their lyrics too, may not be the deep stuff of say, Bob Dylan, but they can sing about a number of topics from love to sex, to lets save the world and a lot of people can't. And there are a lot of people, like Akon, for example who have made far dumber lyrics then NB.
So why do people really hate them? I think it is because they make decent, relatable, radio friendly rock songs covering a wide range of genres and lyrical themes which gives them enough popularity to remain constantly on radio and in our faces, and people get sick of it. Some people may even just like something with deeper lyrics and more complex tunes that aren't so fomulistic, and that's fine. I like some of that too, but there is also a warm spot in my heart for bands like this and ACDC as well.

As for why NB haters are so vocal….Well, the bigger you are the more haters you have. And people like to pay attention to the negative. They sell millions of records and have many fans despite this. Haters gonna hate, and thy have a right to say as they please. And if they wanna go beyond that and be dickheads even? Meh. I'm still buying there albums, so I will get my revenge when you turn on the radio and hear them because of me, and people like me and you sit there and listen to the song like an idiot. (Why else would anyone bitch about their constant airplay, it does not bother you if you just change the channel, it only takes a moment)
