Can YOU Sing??? These Folks Can!

| Filed under: Katy PerryCan YOU Sing???

It took us a long time for Perez to sit through and watch every single submission, but we did it and want to thank each person that entered our "Can You Sing?" cover competition for Katy Perry's The One That Got Away!

There is sooo much talent out there! And we love finding new artists and giving them a broader platform!

The winner for this contest is a star!!!! We don't know her name, but she's a star! (Update: Her name is Meg Sullivan!)

Her YouTube channel name is MSully625 and we are captivated by her rendition of The One That Got Away! It is as beautiful as she is! A complete re-imagining of the song! Her voice, the arrangement, the video itself, her movie-star looks - everything about it is a win!

Check out MSully625's cover (above)!

Congratulations are also in order to The Spandettes, who came in 2nd place! Their Wilson Phillips-reminiscent rendition of Katy's song is majorly awesome! Such exquisite three part harmonies!

It's been lovely to see some repeat entrants! Like Emma Fitzsimons, who gets an honorable mention with her lovely lovely cover! We just love her! And her voice is so special!

It's also great to see Missy Modell again! She gets another honorable mention for yet another fabulous cover!

The violin was such a good touch!!! Check it out below!

Congratulations also to Kara Della Valle for her honorable mention! We love the tone of her voice so much! So pretty! Such a heartfelt cover!

Big props to Cole McGregor for really making the song his own! He made it less pop and more indie pop! Another complete reworking! And we really dig it!

Props to Sonnet for beautifully showcasing her powerful voice in her cover! And the piano is such a refreshing change of pace!

And congratulations also to Hayley Lenore, whose straight-forward cover was very sweet and effective!

The first one you mentioned is my least favorite. Its like a whiny singing voice. Sorry! Not very original!

I definitely like 2nd place more than 1st. I don not like the arrangement of 1st at all.

Haha, love it, Perez is now deleting my posts. The truth is not so pretty is it?

Pretty girl, pretty voice, don't like the arrangement of the song at all though.

First place selection is WAY off. The cover sounds nothing like the original– shouldn't there be some similarity? I liked some of the others a lot better.

Ok didn't enter the competition (can't sing a note and you can check…my youtube name is the same as it is here) but to be honest I think that Natalie Hawkins (AvidActress007) had, by far, the best audition. I am one of her subscribers and I listened to quite a few versions and thought she was the best.
