Kanye Blames Himself For No Album Of The Year Nom

| Filed under: Music MinuteKanye WestAwardz

Kanye Water Under The Bridge

Kanye West is taking the fact that he's not nominated for album or record of the year at the Grammys this year in stride — which seems a little off to us.

Ye's been known to overreact to award decisions, even those that don't involve him (ask Taylor Swift), so it's kinda refreshing to hear his calm thoughts on why he thinks he was left off the best album/record categories, despite leading with 7 noms in other areas:

“Something I figured out early today – because you know, everybody came up to me last night like, ‘Congratulations!’ because you know I’m leading the Grammy nominations this year. Like we always do it this time. But, people focus, they say ‘You ain’t got album of the year or record of the year.’ But I figured out, that’s my fault for dropping Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy the same year. I should have just spaced it out a little bit more. But don’t worry, because me and Hov gon’ keep on making shit."

We're not exactly sure that's why he wasn't nominated, but at least he isn't going nuts over it!

Though, we're actually surprised with the rest of the fans out there that he wasn't nominated. Dark Fantasy was extremely acclaimed!

Do U think he got snubbed??

He should wait about 20 years before dropping anymore music

  2. 2

it's probably because all of his songs are so full of auto tune, they sound the same, lame.

  3. 3

Im far more surprised he got 7 nominations! He hasnt had a great year compared to Adele. And he cant rap!!

  4. 4

    TOTALLY SNUBBED

  5. 5

His cd was completely acclaimed but none of the songs got much radio play. He was a bit overexposed and his personality does him no favors.

  6. 6

He got snubbed because all he is doing is taking GOOD Ed Banger music and making it shitty Kayne West songs.

That was pretty easy to figure out.

    HE SUCKS….. MAYBE THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T GET NOMINATED…
HE SHOULD JUST BE GREATFULL THAT HE EVEN HAS A MUSIC CAREER.
HE IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE YOU HEAR ON THE RADIO AND YOU WONDER HOW THE HELL DID THEY MAKE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE…
WHY DOES HIS FACE ALWAYS LOOK SWOLLEN ?
OR IS THAT HIS BIG ASS HORSE TEETH…?
BAD ATTITUDE KANYE EQUALS NO LOVE…..THINK ABOUT IT FOOL….

he's right, he should have waited like a MONTH before releasing WTT, all the votes for the grammy were split between MBDTF and WTT, which suck cause they we're both amazing albums, not to mention MBDTF got a better rating and was more critically acclaimed than any of those nominated.. oh well he still technically got 9 noms, including beyonces party which he produced.

Kanye West sucks and people who buy and listen to his "music" are too stupid to realize it

  10. 10

Too bad all his money could not buy him a decent brain and taste…his outfilt and black leather pants are hideous…he ugly, just plain ugly…Bro, cover up…we do not want to see that….thank you.

  11. 11

Also, that stare he has in that photo…he has that delusional "king of the world" stare…what a narcissistic schlub.

learn how to sing, play an instrument, or write a real song. you n jay z talking during a curtis mayfield or otis redding song doesn't take much talent. anyone can do it.

Kanye's been nominated for Album of the Year 3 times before and it will likely happen again in the future. Kanye's Album was amazing, and totally engrossing. I didn't need the critics to tell me how good it was, they only reinforce it. Totally deserving of the nomination. I have to assume that all the people disparaging him as untalented are slightly biased by their dislike for him as a person, his arrogance in the past, and the general silliness perpetrated by him in the public eye. The fact is Kanye West is an asshole and has handled himself as one for years, yes its true, douche of the decade for sure, but if it's so easy then you try to do what he does at the level he does it. In the same vein, the fact is that he is an extraordinary producer and has delivered on album after album. What he sometimes lacks lyrical ability he makes up for in creating sonic soudscapes, conveying moods, and making bold statements. If your gonna judge an album for yourself then you should always take what critics say with a grain of salt, but when critics agree almost unanimously and consistently (album after album) that someone is good then there's probably good reason for it. Kanye's never made a bad album. Kanye is good at what he does and judging the album by itself, not the person behind it, it's was undoubtedly snubbed.

Re: DrTake1 – Do you have any idea that most of Kayne's 'hits' have been songs that he samples from actually talented artists and tries to make his own?

Why don't you YouTube 'Cassius, I Love You So'. Or listen to some Daft Punk, or some other Ed Banger stuff. Tell me it doesn't sound familiar.

Not saying Kayne did this without permissions - he just has very little room to take much credit.

  15. 15

He said this in Chicago, I was there. He is being 100% sarcastic!!! He had 2 alumbs that were no1!!!

Re: DixieWrecked82 – Of course I expect there to more than a few samples in Kanye's music. It's the nature of the genre to do so. Sampling has become a staple of rap music and a craft unto itself when done well. There are many rappers, Kanye included, who have been guilty of what I would consider "lazy" sampling, where there seems to be little or no attempt to add anything to the piece other that whats already there, a couple lines and some sound effects. The song you're referring, to "Why I love You" (Watch the Throne), is a bit of lazy sampling, I will admit. That may be evident in a few of his "hits", but Kanye is more than his "hits". Kanye has proven before that he can take a sample and build off of it, not just rap over it. He can break it down, deconstruct it, and reassemble it while adding other musical elements to achieve a specific result, which is sampling at it's best. Having an ear for picking out those bits and pieces of songs that can be molded to fit those purposes is useful talent to have which Kanye does possess. MBDTF is far from a lazy effort, or coat-tail riding sampling. The parts of the samples that were left untouched were usually short and brief while the rest of them were mixed and edited into the song either subtly or almost unrecognizably. Obviously Kanye wasn't the only one working on/producing/mixing the album, but the end result was definitely worth the praise it received.

Re: DrTake1 – You definitely provide a strong case. I won't even pretend like I haven't LOVED more than a few Kanye songs. I just have a problem with him seeming too take all the credit for his genius. No doubt he is super talented though.

He's right about making shit. How low class to brag about leading the nominations. Can't stand this dude! It must not register to him that successful people don't usually brag about themselves or their accomplishments.
