FAA Chief Arrested For DUI…And Resigns!

faa chief arrested for dui and resigns

Not good AT ALL.

Federal Aviation Administrator Randy Babbitt has resigned from his position after being arrested for DUI over the weekend in Washington.

Here's what Babbitt had to say about his decision to resign in a statement:

"…I am unwilling to let anything cast a shadow on the outstanding work done 24 hours a day, seven days a week by my colleagues at the FAA."

And here's what Babbitt's boss, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, had to say about it:

"I'm proud to say that we have the safest aviation system in the world, and thanks to Randy's stewardship, it became safer and stronger. He worked tirelessly to improve relations with the labor community and bolstered employee engagement among his 49,000 colleagues at the FAA."

Deputy Administrator Michael Huerta has taken over Babbitt's position, and he's expected to continue in that role through next year.

We're glad to hear that the FAA has found a replacement, but we were disturbed to hear that Randy Babbitt reportedly co-piloted a flight on Monday, which is less than TWO days after his DUI arrest.

That doesn't sit well with us at all. Let's keep him away from airplanes for a bit, while he gets himself together, please.

Thanks.

It wasn't 2 hours after he was arrested, it had to be, if true, 2 hours after he WAS RELEASED! I am totally against drunk drivers, but how do you know Mario THAT HE HAS 'PROBLEM'? Did he say he was an alcoholic?

It's less than two DAYS, not hours.

But you are right: a lot of people drink and drive at least once in their lives. Getting past the 0,08 limit is extremely easy. On drink, take the wheel right away, and you're done.
