Katy Is Pushing For Music History For #1 Singles, Offers One That Got Away At A Discount!

| Filed under: RihannaJanet JacksonMusic MinuteGeorge MichaelMichael JacksonKaty PerryBruce SpringsteenLMFAO

Katy Perry is looking to be a part of music history.

Currently tied with MJ for the most number one singles, five, off one album. Katy's new single, The One That Got Away, is currently ranked ninth on the Hot 100.

Rihanna/Calvin Harris's We Found Love is the five week reigning champ followed by LMFAO's Sexy and I Know It.

Currently, The One That Got Way has dropped down to 69 cents on iTunes.

69 cents!!!

Teenage Dream is also tied with MJ, Janet Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and George Michael's albums for having the most singles in the top 10 from one album.

Can Katy make music history?! Let's hope so!

Good for her - she's a lot of fun. Re: the discount on iTunes, Gaga did the same thing and was (unfairly) slammed for it … I wonder if those same people will bash Katy for doing it as well in order to meet a sales goal. Ultimately, who cares how they do it … we get fun music at a low price - well done Katy!

Sorry, but she does not deserve this. Of all the woman in the pop music industry, she's probably the worst. I don't understand how she stands next MJ, Bruce Springsteen,… in the first place! She's talentless, her music is cheap. Okay fun sometimes but that's all, and doing this, makes her just pathetic. She knows The One That Got Away is not number one material, that's the reason she does it. C'mon Rihanna stay strong!

its hardly a fair game if they arnt selling at the normal price then claiming they beat someone who did…what the hell has the world come to yes she has talent but NOTHING like michael

I realize that these achievements are based on sales of your music, but it seems unfair that she can manipulate the stakes so easily, whereas the other artists mentioned didn't have access to fans the way Katy does, nor would they have been able to so directly influence the cost of one song. Seems cheap that they had to sell songs based on sound and she can sell them based on lowering the price on iTunes… I'm sorry but musical achievements no longer seem to hold the same honour as they once did. I love Katy Perry but when people think back to the musical greats, her name will not cross anyone's mind as revolutionary.

out of curiosity I went to look to see if it actually was offered at a discount on my ITunes, it isn't. Maybe she has received a lot of backlash for trying to do that, or it's because I'm not American, that tends to happen a lot haha.

I thought Billboards werent counting discounted stuff anymore? or is that just for albums

Re: Armkin – agreed, Rihanna deserves it (:

That's cheating. Then she is going to be close to passing Whitney's 7 #1 consecutive singles record.

  12. Went says – reply to this

she is not tied with Janet for the most top 10 singles off one album. Janet had 7 with Rhythm Nation, and all of them were top 5 hits.

Re: pie107 – $0.69???? Damn, for the whole album right?? That's way overpriced for this stale pop tart's offerings.

  14. 14

    Re: Went

Who cares? Janet didn't have 5 number ones. And its not like she discounted her album to 99 cents like Lady Gags did

How ridiculous to sell it for cheap just in hopes that it can get to #1. It's being a sell-out. I'm thinking this could be the song that doesn't go to number one but who knows, it may. Well it already is a cool record for her to tie with MJ, but she just can't go down as one of music's greats - she's simply not. I enjoy her music but it's guilty pleasure silly pop, not timeless music that stays with us. These numbers don't mean all that much anymore maybe. That's my opinion anyways.

Re: canadiancutie9 – I basically just said the same thing…many people are probably thinking this.

  17. 17

that is so fucking pathetic… really katy, really? ughhh

  18. 18

In 5 years they'll be doing a "Where are they now" special about her from some drug den/porn set and no one will be surprised.

  19. 19

Re: Meggie246524 – She is only selling ONE SONG for $0.69. Lady GaGa sold her ENTIRE ALBUM for $0.99 (less than the average price of a song on iTunes or Amazon). Anyway, The One That Got Away doesn't deserve to top the Hot 100. It's not as good as her past singles. Had she released Hummingbird Heartbeat, she would've probably been like #3 right now, but OH WELL (In Katy Perry's voice from Last Friday Night).

MJ sold could have had more than 5 singles of an album but he was already dropping a new 1 by then. Didn't she get caught lip syncing? Didn't millie vanillie have to give back their grammys for that.

  21. 21

hahaha… they"re giving her number ones.. if this doesnt work here comes the remix to make it number one haha~!!!!

  23. 23

she might as well start doing steroids!!!!! lmfao!!!!!! 69 cents?? why not just give away for free or shove it down our collective throats??? lol

  24. 24

The more awards and great reviews these singers get, the worse the music. Did you know that the Beatles got much worse reviews then all the current crop of musicians, and they hardly ever won awards at first. Just saying maybe it's time for a revolution in music

this just goes to show that it doesn't take much to be a "legend." her songs are catchy and okay, but not anything classic. sooo ridiculous that they're even comparing her w/ michael jackson
