New Year's Eve Is #1…During Worst Box Office Weekend Since 2008!

| Filed under: Film FlickersZac EfronBusiness Blitz

new years eve number one at box office

Come on, people! The movie starred Zac Efron! What happened?!?!?

Despite the fact that every celebrity EVER made an appearance in New Year's Eve, that still couldn't save it at the box office this weekend, which was the worst weekend for box office revenues in over THREE YEARS! Ouchie!

New Year's Eve DID come in first place at the box office…but it only grossed a disappointing $13.7 million.

Here's what Warner Bros president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman had to say about it:

"The box office was just in really bad shape. While we had the No. 1 movie, we were No. 1 in a very soft market."

"There weren't enough moviegoers, and the only thing you can hope for is that the big Christmas films, which start to kick in next weekend, help to pick up the pace."

Ah well! Maybe things will pick up for New Year's Eve in the coming weeks!

What did U see over the weekend???

P.S. Check out a list of the top 10 movies at this weekend's box office AFTER THE JUMP!

1. New Year's Eve - $13.7 million

These Celebrities show up, do an hours of stupid "Acting" nonsense, pick up their million dollar check, and then expect me to pay to see them so they can by their 10th vacation home & get their 20th face lift…..NO THANKS!

Of course the box office is bad…it's finals week! Every college kid in the country is spending 14 hours a day in the library, not going to the movies.

you know, the generally public are looking for substance in a movie not this "omg every celebrity is in this movie so i must see it". Hollywood was just trying to bank money with this movie which is sad. I want more creative movies. Movies that let the imagination take you away. New Year's Eve looked like your typical movie, everyone has seen before, so why would someone spent 11 bucks, 2 hours of there lives when they can do something better like hang out with family…..hmmm.

The movie has Ashton Kutcher in it. That is why it bombed and will continue to bomb. dude has never made a good movie and the only reason 2 and 1/2 men is doing well is because of the new female audience. The show lost most of its male viewers when Charlie left.

Worst movie…ever!!! My husband and I walked out after 30 minutes. During that time they showed a ridiculous number of celebrities with about 1 minute of dialogue each with nothing remotely interesting to say. Not to mention that every person in this movie looked like crap. They must not have had a makeup person on set. This is Hollywood banking purely on the credit of the stars in the film. If I were any one of these actors, I would be embarrassed. What a waste.

its finals weekend dummy. only the college kids want to see this and no one can time timeout of studying

This movie made me want to jump out of my seat and into the picture like Mary Poppin's did and be apart of a storyline!! I absolutely loved this movie from the first scene till the credits ended.. From Zac to Halle to Josh to Bon Jovi, etc. this was a feel good movie, phenomenal cast!! I say…Go see it and watch it for yourself and judge it yourself.. Do not let any crtitics persuade you!! You will smile, you will laugh and you will u love it!!

Can't believe it did as well as it did. As for Zac, I think he has lost 99% of his little girl fan base. Most of them have grown up enough to know he is not the person his PR made him out to be for all those years. He's like just about ever other actor in Hollywood, a hard partying, hard living guy who will lose his looks by the time he's 30. But, Perez still loves him.

Didn't Valentine's Day show producers that just because you have one hundred big name stars on one film, doesn't guarantee a big box office turn out. Big actors, small plot lines

The issue with this movie is not that Zac Efron lost all of his "little girl" fanbase as some claim…fans of his former girlfriend just like to think that to make themselves feel better about the malicious lies they spread. The issue is that this movie has no substance and the storylines are underdeveloped.

why go to the movies when u can wait and pay 1 dollar for a rental…

I also loved it and don't know why people hated it so much! And Zac Efron was adorable in it!
