Every GLEE-Tail: Holly, Jolly Holidaze!

Last night’s Glee had all the treats and trimmings of a proper Christmas special, filled with heartwarming sentiment and NINE holiday musical numbers, four of which NOT in Techno-Color!

If you’re ready for some Glee-mas cheer, than this episode was the one for you!

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE, PLEASE DON’T READ ANY FURTHER.

As this is our last Glee recap of the year, let us first start out by saying that we’ve enjoyed reliving each episode so far with all of you this season and hope look forward to all the NEW things to happen at McKinley next year to gab about (MJ tribute, graduation, the return of The Groff!!!)

As for last night’s holiday jaunt, it was nothing if not totally entertaining. Half the episode was played out like a Judy Garland Christmas speical, complete with delightful attire, exaggerated speech and a heightened sense of reality we wish was actual reality. The kids are asked to put on the holiday bonanza after their local station loses the rights to the yule log. (Remember! Heighten reality!) The Glee club happily steps in to oblige, but they hit a snag when Sue Sylvester asks the kids to help her out down at the homeless shelter on the same night as their show taping.

As it turns out (because it is Christmas after all), there is time for the kids to do both. First, they put on the show! Shot completely in black and white, The Glee Holiday Spectacular mixes the glamour and glitz of the old Judy Garland Christmas specials with the almost forgotten about Star Wars homage to the holidays.

And we loved it! Lea Michele and Darren Criss were obviously born in the wrong era! They fit so seamlessly into the framework of this kind of programming, we almost forgot it was supposed to be a farce. Actually, if we didn’t know better, when Darren and Chris Colfer kicked off the special with their rendition of Let It Snow, we could’ve sworn we were watching Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye! They were really that good! And then when Lea and Amber Riley showed up for the quartet number of Favorite Things? Dead! More Julie Andrews songs for Rachel! (Note: Since when is that a Christmas song?!)

Speaking of Rachel, a subplot to all the merriment was her usual selfishness getting in the way of seeing the true meaning of the holidays. She asks Finn for a barrage of gifts that he clearly can’t afford with the money he makes from his nonexistent job. However, Rachel finally gets around her greed after her big ole’ boyfriend goes off and does something super sweet (buys her a star, awww!), along with getting her the expensive earings she asked for. It’s then that she decides to give back, opting to sell back the earrings and the iPod she bought Finn to donate to charity.

Cue Linus, Frosty and the Christmas gang! We got a winner over here!

Before they get a chance to finish their Xmas show, the kids rush over to the homeless shelter to save the day with – what else – a song and bring some much needed good tidings to some poor, unfortunate souls.

And thus, Glee saves Christmas with love and an extensive musical catalogue.

Side Notes:

A) Finn Hudson needs to watch more Keeping Up With The Kardashians. No way Kim only has 15 things on her Chrismtas list. Psht!

B) We would have no problem spending an afternoon with Sarah Palin if it was flying around in a helicopter. She could shoot the reindeer solo though.

C) WHAT?! Artie’s robot legs broke?! #FAIL #NOTWINNING #WHEREWASTHEBEISTE?

D)Raise your hand if you saw a picture of Ian Brenan inside Rory’s locker.

E) “Best Friend and Holiday Roommate?” Can Darren be our holiday roommate next year?! And excuse us, but we were pretty sure there was supposed to be some gift exchanging between Kurt and Blaine! WTF?!

F) How come no one celebrates Chrismahanukwanzakah on this show? HUH?!

G) MORE CHEWBACCA!!!

HAPPY GLEE-MAS EVERYONE!!!!

Other than this show being gay, why, when you put a picture up of the show, you always have Major Gayface in it…wait, what a silly question.

Re: kufan87 – Damian's officially been picked up for more than 7 episodes =)
I wasn't a fan of this episode. Where Glee gets it right is combining music with storyline, and last night was pure music which made it boring. Last year's Christmas episode was way better.

this episode was terrible. for those of us who dislike black and white/judy garland type film, it was boring and really annoying. seriously, my accounting homework was more fun to do than watching this episode.
