LOVE Ricky Gervais. if only everybody could think logically and rationally.

  2. 2

as funny as he is he reminds me of my dad at xmas parties always manages to offend everyone in the room with his jokes then hes happy..im personally not likeing this picture and im not overly religious but i thought the whole idea about being atheist was stfu about it because u didnt care either way not make a display of being a atheist kind of destroys the entire thing unless its a joke then of course its over the top but amusing ..lol..my dads a virgo..

  3. 3

    He is Brilliant

The man does not know what the word Politically Correct is

Can't wait until he rips into Madonna at the Golden Globes
He should have a hoot with her phony brit accent, boy toy lovers, and the Duchess of Windsor

  4. 4

Funny how religious people are at liberty to talk about their beliefs - even when their beliefs are bigoted, yet when an atheist talks about their beliefs, they are accused of attacking religious people. Why should an atheist have to respect a religious persons right to be religious, and yet be expected to keep quiet himself? Just like those Christians who want gays to stay in the closet (DADT), they want atheists to stay in the closet too.

  5. 5

This is pathetic, Obama is using the Jewish media to turn gays (and naive straight people, such as Ricky) against Christians so that people will hate republicans even more when the next elections come.

It pisses me off how people can bash Christians when it's literally illegal to be gay in muslim countries :/ I have nothing against muslims, the media turned Americans against them, they're victims as much as us Christians are. I just don't like how Christians are being singled out when it comes to religious views.

  6. 6

He's a fucking moron for being so cliched. Like a 100000 other assholes don't use religion to "shock" viewers or listeners… oh God, how ORIGINAL.

All, I can say is God help him…that picture…YIKES!!

  8. 8

If you don't believe, shut the fuck up. If you don't believe, then there's no point in making that point. Just don't believe. Let others have their religion. Just shut the fuck up asshole.

  9. mre says – reply to this

Re: rosebud99 – I am a Christian, and I am not a bigot in any way toward anyone's religion, race or sexual preference. This picture is disgusting and highly offensive to me. You can't judge all Christians by what so called "Christians" say and do. It's not fair to lump a group into one box by the few who spew hatred and intolerance in the name of God, majority of real Christian's don't believe in judging others. I do believe everyone, including you deserve respect in your beliefs, but this picture is not amusing in any sense and is a pretty lame attempt at shock value, it's all been done before.

  10. 10

Re: mre – Sorry if my comments implied that all Christians are bigots. I was referring to those people to use religion as a means of justifying their bigotry. I realize that there are a lot of really good people out there who are religious - I did not mean to offend anyone.

  11. mre says – reply to this

[re=5968265]Re: rosebud99[/reThank you so much. I do understand the kind of "Christians" you are referring to, which give real Christians, like myself a bad name. God is Love, he loves everyone, black, white, straight and gay, whatever.

  12. 12

Oh Ricky, soooo not okay. It's perfectly fine if he's an atheist; but to mock the most sacred Christian image like that is insulting, rude and beyond disrespectful.

  13. 13

Team JESUS, thank you very much… Don't care about the religious bigot or the atheist bigot.

  14. 14

Attention whore. I find it funny how in America it's great to pick on Christianity, but as soon as someone says ANYTHING about Judiasm or the Muslim religion all hell breaks loose. I'm an atheist and I find this photo to be childish. Live and let live. Atheists like this give the rest of us a bad name. Kind of like how PETA activists give all vegetarians a bad rap of being psychotic. Will never understand why these groups of people make everything about them and turn it into a circus show.

  15. 15

btw, Perez, you could have picked another photo less offensive

  16. tasha says – reply to this

This picture is disgusting. Here in American something like 98 percent of people believe in God. I know Ricky is British but I'm sick to death of the 2 percent of Americans who don't believe thinking the rest of us should have to put up with taking God out of everything and doing this type of disrectful crap.

  17. 17

This is a touchy subject. I do find this photo disrespectful and even offensive. It does make me like him less. However, I don't find the "GodsWordis Law" tweets about this very helpful or constructive. They sound a bit childish and like they are going to feed into the problem more than help things. People are going to do things like this. I think it's okay to show disapproval of this type of blantant mockery of Christianity. However, there's probably a better way to do so. And also just to accept that some people are going to think this way, like Ricky Gervais. He will have to be accountable for his actions as we all are.

  18. 18

Re: Jezzikat – I agree, I feel like Christians are a group that today in the U.S. most people aren't worried about offending, but they are worried about offending everyone else. Am I wrong in thinking this? It does feel that way sometimes. I am a Christian but I am also careful not to offend others or push anything at them. I would like to see the same respect for Christians if "tolerance" and "non-judgmental" are going to be such important concepts in our modern dialogue.

  19. 19

Also, I don't think one needs to be a "fundamentalist" to be offended by this photo.

  20. 20

Re: mre – Trust me, atheists are the last group to assume stereotypes. The majority of us do not believe all Christians are bigots, protest the funerals of gay people or do the other things the minority of Christians do. The majority of us are very accepting of religion, but are against fundamentalism. We respect personal beliefs, but are against extremists, at least in my case.

  21. 21

  22. Kirie says – reply to this

@GodsWordisLaw tweeted "Thats all Atheists know how to do; Hate." less than an hour after tweeting " I loathe the lgbt lifestyle." #ironic

  23. mre says – reply to this

Re: Kirie – Kirie…like I mentioned before, poor example, and in no way represents what a real Christian is. Real Christian's are in no way hateful and certainly not judgemental. I was born and raised a Christian, and know that God hates no one, and actually says in the Bible that God only hates a liar. Nowhere have I ever read that he hates gay people. Ridiculous. Please do not let comments like that make you think that all Christian's feel that way, it certainly does not represent me or my family who raised me.

  24. 24

as fellow Atheist myself I say AMEN Ricky!!!!!!

  25. 25

people seem to forget that atheism or secular humanism are belief structures too. if people want the right to talk about their christianity then they have to respect other people's rights to speak about their own belief structures. but it needs to be universal. just believe what you believe and stop caring what other people are up to

  26. @v@ says – reply to this

Can't you just feel the religion/anti-religion love up in those tweets and in that pic? It's one thing to believe what you choose, and another to poke at another belief with a big stick; and then another to lead a charge against a guy who doesn't believe. I don't give a rats about either of these people, but the infighting pisses me off. Respect one another. Idiots.

  27. 27

It is almost Christmas people, be kind whatever your beliefs are. Thank you.

  28. 28

Christians are the whipping boys of today atheists because they are an easy/powerless target due to the barrage of public oppression they have suffered under for years, thanks to the lamestream meadia. The fact that this tool jumped on the bandwagon in an attempt to be, what 'cutting edge', by attacking beliefs he couldn't understand if they were written in crayon? Please…Its just sad. However if this idiot wants to be known as all hardcore-outspoken, he should have gone after Islam in the same fashion he belittles and attacks Christianity… But he won't & never will. Know why? Like so many other loudmouth atheists, he lacks courage of his convictions, unless it is with a target that won't fight back. Islamist? Scare him spitless, as well they should. Insult Muhammad in the same why so many insult Christians beliefs? And they will cut off your freaking head. This guys is such a ball-less, atheist tool, its not even funny. Seriously, would he ever pose with a turban on his head in the same disrespectful manner that he is pictured above, mocking Christianity? Funny. And for those of you not schooled as to why, why don;t you do a little research into all the problems South Park creators when THEY tried to mock Islam. So yeah, Ricky Gervais? Utterly without balls.

  29. mre says – reply to this

@ kustompainter…I'm confused, you say you're an athiest, but then say Amen?
@ @v@….I don't believe I said one thing that was disrespectful to anyone who
commented, everyone has a right to believe in anything they choose. If people want to
be Athiest, that's their right. I didn't name call, or insult anyone's belief. You said everyone should respect everyone, and I agree, then you end by calling people you don't know "Idiots".

  30. 30

The thing that irritates me the most is that Christians are the first to jump on this. Like they're really the only damn religion on Earth? I don't see the Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. getting all uppity over something like this. Take away the crown of thorns and it's only a shadowy figure of a crucifix - if you even want to stretch it that far. "WAHHHH, WE'RE THE LARGEST RELIGION ON EARTH AND WE'RE BEING OPPRESSED, WAHHHH!"

  31. mre says – reply to this

Re: Oh Resist Her – Of course Jews, Muslims and Hindus aren't upset about this as Jesus Christ is not who they believe in, and that is fine. Of course Christian's don't think "we're the only religion on Earth". I don't know what your belief system is, but I am sure if someone insulted what is the very core of what you believe in and love, you would be insulted. I would never go so far as to mock or disrespect someone else's beliefs regardless if it's an Athiest, Jew, Muslim, etc. This has nothing to
do with feeling "oppressed", as I don't. It is however DEEPLY insulting to my beliefs. I just wish people could express themselves no matter what their belief is, while being respectful to others, it's honestly not that hard. Clearly we have vastly different opinions, but I respect your option to believe whatever you want and I am not trying to cram my Christianity down your throat, but a little mutual respect would be nice.

  32. 32

I am with neither. I think they both should shut the fuck up because no one gives a damn about what they think. People with faith have it, those that do not, don't. Simple as that. I am happen to be Catholic (note how we rarely get up in arms or bitch about much) and think extremes on any aspect of the social\cultural\economic spectru, are psychopaths.

  33. 33

ricky is soo tough to "take on" the christians, but do you notice he neverr risks fatwa by attacking islam, and he surely would not do so in iraq, iran, syria, indonesia, etc. he is a bully but he is not stupid

  34. 34

  35. 35

Where's his right nipple? It's not that shadow on the right , right? Lol… I just never thought of Ricky Gervais …. like that visually with his chest out……. lol. Kind of disturbing.

  36. 36

Such a great discussion .. Lott'sa thought-provoking comments .. And I agree: believe in whatever religion / or not & respect others, as long as they respect you.
    Straightforward enough!
But I must add that I do delight in knowing a few "Christians" who have PHD's in "truth-prevarication" …. Now that's entertainment - - -

  37. 37

if you are a real Christian, or really religious, you must be a bigot. if you're not a bigot, that means you do not take your religion seriously. the fact is, if you're religious, you're against ethics, consciousness, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, equal rights, women, you name it…. basically, if you're religious, you're scum!

  38. 38

If he were making fun of gays, hindus, jews, lesbians, transgenders, hispanics, african american, asians, people WOULD FREAK OUT! It's sad how he can get away with this…. this picture is disgusting, but he'll have to face the concequences sometime.

  39. 39

Re: mre – Exactly - you said it best.

  40. mre says – reply to this

Re: Alexima – You are sadly misinformed. I am a true Christian, and I am none of the things you mentioned. What it has taught me, is when people persecute you, as you did by calling me "scum", you're supposed to turn the other cheek, and let them slap you on the other. Oh, and pray for my enemies. That is what Christianity has taught me, although I cannot account for what other "Christians" choose to do and say, I am only responsible for my own actions. It has taught me to be tolerant of others, even when their opinions differ from my own, and it certainly has taught me to rise above insults from people who don't know me, and in the long run, doesn't matter much in the grand scope of things. If that makes me "scum", and if that is how you judge all Christians, I am more than proud to be called that by you. I respect your choice to disagree with me, it doesn't mean I don't take my belief's seriously, far from it, it is the center of my life, it just means I treat others the way I would like to be treated, regardless of their behavior. That is one of the cornerstones of Christianity, do unto others..

  41. 41

Good on you Ricky! Let this fundie douche have it. The rest of you, grow a pair of balls.

  42. 42

Re: rosebud99 – Well said rosebud, so true!!!! :)

  43. 43

I kinda love that picture. I love that eh had the balls to go shirtless, lol.

  44. 44

I am a non believer but I think everybody should believe or not believe what they want.. as long as they are good people..

  45. 45

    Team Ricky all the way!

  46. 46

Although I can see Ricky Gervais is using this for publicity, I'm on his side in this dispute, because the person he's engaging with, Keith Roberts aka "GodsWordIsLaw", is a genuinely nasty piece of work. If you don't believe me, just read his tweets. This whole dispute started when Keith started crowing about the death of Christopher Hitchens, who was a hero for Gervais, and in the whole "debate" Gervais has been actually quite reasonable, and it's Keith that's come off looking like a nutter.

  47. 47

Enjoy the fire and brimstone Ricky! Bahahahah

  48. 48

Lovin' it …♥ ♥… Lovin' him!!

  49. @v@ says – reply to this

Overall I've always really liked Gervais apart from this. I guess religious controversy worked for Madonna. Good comedy might be better.

  50. 50

Cheap shot. Whether you are a Christian or not, Jesus Christ was a godly man and his philosophy is beautiful. Let's see Ricky take a pot shot at mooslums, who honor a man who murdered, raped, lied, was a bloody warlord, took slaves, raped children and was, according to modern medicine, a complete schizophrenic. Let's see Ricky take a pot shot at the mooslum unholy book that over and over again calls for the death of all non-mooslums. A bigger hate book does not exist. Mein Kampf has nothing on the korshitran! Pure filth and hate. Wake up, America!

Come on Ricky, Let's see you dress up like moehammy! YOu could get a little six-year-old girl to play his child bride who he raped when she was nine!!! YOu ain't got the balls.

  51. 51

    Love him .

  52. 52

I just can't stand any religion. all it does is separate. why cant we all just believe in what we want without being told crap about it. its our lives and no one else's

  53. 53

Totally on Ricky Gervais' side. I am an Atheist as well. I totally agree with this: "I am not anti christian. I am anti bigot @GodsWordIsLaw I don't believe in ANY god. I treat all religions equally. And all good people"

  54. 54

I love the people bitching and moaning that Ricky doesn't pick on other religions. Um…yes he does you idiots. If you hda any clue about his stand up, podcasts, or schtick in general you'd know that. Instead you read a blurb on Perez Hilton and think you have the right to feel oppressed.

Ricky is English… most people are NOT christians here. It isn't a big deal to say you don't believe in God. Only Americans would somehow feel attacked by this. It is ridiculous and shows how pathetic and unstable Americans are. If you have faith, it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. In fact the bible says you should expect to be oppressed - get over yourselves and live your own lives you sad little people.

  55. 55

Re: Oh Resist Her – To be fair, Muslims get VERY offended when people depict Muhammad. Hindus are usually fine with depictions of their gods, but were angry when Nike released flip-flops with a picture of Ganesha on the sole and got them to stop selling the product. Yes, Christians (some, not all of them) get very offended over little things, and consider anyone speaking about not believing in God or how they don't agree with religion, to be bashing their beliefs. However, they're not the only group to be offended.

  56. mre says – reply to this

Re: lolcat – Where in the Bible does it say you should "expect to feel oppressed"?? If you're going to join in the debate, please at least do so with correct information. As a Christian, I could care less what anybody chooses to believe, as it is
your right to believe or not to believe in whatever you want. I also didn't see one comment here, where anyone said they feel "oppressed". The photo is highly offensive, and while Ricky is English, he is hosting a show in AMERICA, where there is a large Christian base. He can hold on to his Athiest beliefs while not offending millions of people.

  57. 57

Re: Irvinegirl – Thank you. Agreed

  58. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: lolcat – That's incorrect. United Kingdom - 2001 census - Religions - Christian (Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist) 71.6%, Muslim 2.7%, Hindu 1%, other 1.6%, unspecified or none 23.1% .

  59. 59

Re: @v@ – The figures for religion in the UK are correct and Lolcat is partially wrong, but most people who identify as religious here really aren't. The churches here are so empty, they're turned into bars and clubs. You NEVER hear anything about religion, and if a politician were to speak about religion, they'd be mocked. Religious people in the UK are NOTHING like religious people in the US - while this image may insult millions of people in the US, it probably would offend about 5 people in the UK.

  60. 60

Re: lolcat – "Only Americans would somehow feel attacked by this. It is ridiculous and shows how pathetic and unstable Americans are." - You have no clue what goes on amongst the majority of Americans. You read posts from a few idiots here, see inaccurate portrayals of Americans in the media and assume you know ALL Americans? You clearly don't. Stop making generalisations. Not all Americans are religious, and of those that are, the majority aren't fanatics. The majority are normal people who can take a joke - not the examples of extremism you see in the media.
And, it is true that the majority of British people do identify as Christian. Those figures come directly from the census.

  61. 61

Re: lolcat – "Only Americans would somehow feel attacked by this. It is ridiculous and shows how pathetic and unstable Americans are." - You know shit about Americans. You must be incredibly thick to believe that all Americans are extremists. The majority of Americans are not religious fanatics. The US may be more religious than many countries, but the perspective most ignorant people like you have on the US is incredibly flawed. I bet you went to Orlando once and now think you're an expert on Americans, like many British people who run their mouths about Americans.
It's also VERY incorrect to say that most people in the UK are not religious. The majority of people in the UK, around 70%, are Christian - and that comes from the census. They may not be attending church every Sunday, but they identify as Christian.

  62. 62

Wonderful Perez… your site acts like it doesn't want to post my comments, and then you make me rewrite a post and end up posting both!
