Sorry, CBS! Spanish Network Univision Was #1 In The Ratings Last Night!

| Filed under: TV NewsLatinoliciousBusiness Blitz

univision is number one in ratings

Looks like Fox isn't the ONLY network giving CBS some competition!

Last night, the highest rated network in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic WASN'T CBS…or NBC…or ABC…or even AMC…

It was Spanish-language network Univision!!!!

Yep. According to Nielsen numbers, the two-hour finale of La Fuerza del Destino (The Strength of Destiny) brought in 5.4 million total viewers, which brought the network to victory for the night!

Very cool! Should be inneresting to see if they'll be able to keep such high numbers up!

What did U watch last night???

At least CBS was smart enough not to turn off its daytime dramas like ABC.

Yes, but it's millions of mexicans that have little money and they get one station.

Love mexico!!! But some really poor peeps there and where is counts "$$$$$" Univision falls flat.

I was def watching. I am neither mexican, nor poor. Ecuadorian and living in Scarsdale, NY. There are lots of hispanics who love their novelas, not just poor mexicans…Univision runs a lot of great shows too, and in my neighborhood we have cable with 150+ channels to choose from…

Um your comment low is pretty ridiculous. I was def watching last night…And guess what, i'm neither poor nor mexican. Im' Ecuadorian from Scarsdale, NY. There are lots of hispanics that watch univision and who love their novelas. There are 150+ channels i can choose from too. And my guess is that in Mexico and all across south america, and the US, they also have more than one channel to choose from.

Re: Low – i'm just astounded by this comment. Univision is also based out of LA (originally NY) which makes it a US station (owned by the USA broadcasting network). Meaning that it's 5.4 million hispanics/other watching this…and well i think you should know this, but not every hispanic is mexican. And not every hispanic is poor.

a genuinely pathetic sign of the times

a redundant "novella" is what is the "most watched"

on a positive note: at least some fake "reality star's"
show didn't end up the most watched. so there IS hope

wether you are wealthy or poor,
moronic television programing is in fact JUST THAT - moronic.

    ah well

YAY!!! I'm so happy its a great novela

This makes sense… Univision had a new show on, while the other networks probably had reruns. Who is interested in watching rerun television? This is a non-story. When Univision's ratings are higher than NEW primetime television, then that's a real story.

Re: drdre – You'll have to ignore the idiots. Some people are so stupid, that they label every Spanish speaker in the US as a Mexican, and they also believe that every Mexican is poor. They fail to recognize that there are MANY other countries south of the border.

It was a great novela, but I think that the sudden death of one of its protagonists also had to do with such high ratings. Pedro Armendariz passed away earlier that same day which could've been a good reason why the show had high ratings.
    - good story, watched it daily, but not THAT diffierent or great as other telenovelas!

I am not Mexican nor poor but I do like telenovelas a lot. Too bad there is not a good Brazilian telenovela right now that would kick these Mexican culebrones down the drain. Telemundo broadcast Brazilian telenovelas every once in a while, but I have not seen one lately.

probably because it beat the CBS in filth. It's nothing but almost nudity and over-sexualization. Which is why I stopped watching spanish tv many eyars ago. I'm puerto Rican, and I think it sets an extrememly bad example for the spanish people and minorities.

what a perfect time to do a door-2-door immigration sweep

  14. 14

@low you are sooo damn ignorant! not everyone in Mexico is poor you dumbass!

Re: pollopicu – Wow, if you think Univision is showing filth, never watch European television at night! You'll have a heart attack!
Some people need to learn to lighten up.
