not a big deal. it wasn't a fucking inauguration or anything. it's a great song by John Lennon.

  2. 2

I don't know who is fatter and stupider and more ignorant, Cee Lo or Jelly Clarkson.

  3. 3

cumlow should just go fuck himself

  4. 4

He owes everyone an apology for screwing up a John Lennon classic. He took a huge chunk of the whole purpose and message of the song away when he changed the lyrics. AND NO RELIGION TOO! ALL RELIGIONS ARE NOT TRUE!! A big message of the song is getting rid of religion because it divides us. Saying they are all true just empowers people to still use there religion as a weapon against others. John Lennon would have been appalled to hear that come out of his mouth while singing his song.

  5. 5

"Imagine there is no Cee Lo…
    it's easy if your try"

  6. 6

Re: anewlow – Hear, hear. Lennon's message was very poignant - to completely reverse the message is horrible.

  7. 7

Re: OriginalRecipe – you* :-S ruined it!

  8. 8

There are so many people out there that totally 100% believe that their particular religion is true. This belief gives them the right to impose their will upon others. Yes, Ce-Lo, imagine the horror.

  9. 9

How can an artist change another's artists work AND intent?!?!? This is really a low mark in CeeLo's career…prettty shameful!

  10. 10

Not cool - in every possible way.

  11. 11

CeeLo screeched…Perhaps he likes burkas? Clitorectomies? Priests raping children? Sharia? Stoning for adultry? Crusades? Inquisition? 9/11? Arranged marriages? Bombing girls' schools? Women/gays suppression? Honor killings? [all Maher]. Choose any religion your parents chose from their parents…except NO religion.
    .
No, you can't "believe what u wanted." [Does CLG approve of book burning? Deleting stem-cell research? Teaching abstinence-only? Suicide bombings? No birth-control? No blood transfusions? No psychiatrists? Multiple wives? Murdering abortion MDs (Army of God)? Child-abuse religious exemptions? How to dress, what (not) to eat/booze, who to befriend/have sex w/?…]
    .
His castration changed the MEANING of the song. You don't get to change some1's lyrics. NO "I was trying to say"~~no1 gives a shit-&-1/2 about your supernatural beliefs ["There's no man in the sky"~~Carlin]. Write your own damn song, fool~~you're no Bard/Maestro/Lyricist Lennon or possess Johnny Mathis' velvet voice. "Imagine" says we'd be btr w/o religion. Imagine that. Lennon tried to open people's eyes & CLG took it upon himself to shut them again. 'Twas a new Cee lo(w).
    .
Lennon never screamed/shrieked this song ["tasteless, tactless, utter noise"]…he sang it softly like you were in the same room~~not across the st. Dumb loudmouth.

  12. 12

ummm, why not write your OWN song stating your beliefs. don't screw with other peoples lyrics..

  13. 13

He sucked ass! his voice cracked! I was wondering who the hell this dude was. At least now i know.

    get some singing lessons dude.

  14. 14

It's fine. It means that we need to be tolerant of all religions and not kill anyone if they are different than us. That's a good quote, all religion is true, even atheism. Yes, atheism is a religion because it is a belief look up the root -ism it means belief

It was a dick move on his part. If he wanted to sing a pro-religion song he could have picked so many others or just written his own damned song! To purposely choose a song with such a unique message and then change it for his own ends was not ok. It's extraordinarily disrespectful and I don't think he would like it if he produced a work of meaning and someone stomped all over it the way he has. Artists need to have more respect for other artists (even the dead ones who can't argue back) and their fans.

  17. 17

Re: mojo jojo – are you what 14 15?

  18. 18

Oh gosh. Spare me. Should he have changed the lyrics: Probably not. But not because it's "disrespectful", but because music snobs would tear him apart. Honestly, that line in Imagine has been something I've struggled with too.

John Lennon was an amazing artist and his music was brilliant, but Cee Lo didn't mean any disrespect by what he did. John Lennon's message in "Imagine" was a peaceful world and if all religion were accepted by everyone, then there would be peace. Cee Lo is religious, probably, and he probably is tolerant of other religions as well and didn't feel comfortable disowning that by singing a line where a perfect world doesn't include his God.

Maybe he should have just turned down the gig if he didn't feel comfortable with the line, but in the end, what he said wasn't hateful and it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, so I don't see why this is a big deal at all.

  19. 19

Re: mojo jojo – ism is not the root, it is the suffix. Atheism is not a belief. Using 'ism' for atheists is not really correct. Atheists simply do not believe in god. The term atheism does not tell you anything about what they do believe in. So no, atheism is not a religion.

  20. 20

sing it like it was written or dont fucking sing it at all ASSHOLE!!!!

  21. 21

If CeeLo IS religious and that is the reason he changed the lyrics as some have stated on here, then he is a total hypocrite, because only a hypocrite would claim to be faithful to a religion and then write a song titled "F*CK You".

  22. 22

Re: Nellygrl – John Lennon did not believe in religion. Because there is no god.

  23. 23

I didn't see anything wrong with his version.

However, I saw another clip of this show where it showed Kathy Griffin; now that really did a # on my eyes…not nice.

  24. 24

I think this is such a beautiful change. He is an artist and can sing what he wants. He's saying that no matter what your beliefs are… if you are a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Atheist, Agnostic… that you ARE right… we are all united as human beings. I love the original version of this song too. I am not saying they are equally poignant… but both are poignant in a different way. And if you don't like his artistic choices… don't buy his music! he'll still be making millions without your business haha

  25. 25

i hate that celebs have to apologize to fans so they dont lose them, for shit they didnt even do wrong…. he didnt do a fuckin thing wrong.

  26. 26

yeah, if youre allowed to NOT believe…. hes allowed to believe. fuck off

  27. 27

Lesson of the day: if its not broke, don't try to fix it! Lennon was ahead of his time, CLG should have left Lennon's message in the song as is or sang something diff. Maybe Im being biased since Im an atheist and a hard core Lennon fan. In 50 years we will still be speaking of the genius of John Lennon. CLG Im not so sure. Keep the lyrics as they were meant to be.

  28. Low says – reply to this

    28

    VERY LAME CEE LO!

I like him much less after this.

  29. 29

Wow, people are taking this way out of control, he likes it when priests rape children? What the f… Calm the fuck down people. Okay, so Lennon said NO RELIGON okay. Now with no religon people would not be fighting and the world would'nt be as messed up. He's just imagining, its a" what if" song, okay. Now Cee Lo is saying what if ALL RELIGON WERE TRUE. Okay another what if. See if all religon were true then no one could opose it or start a fight or start a war like they're doing right now in some countries. John was saying it would be more peaseful without, Green is saying it would be more peaceful if it was all accepted. WE all know neither is gonna happen so why are we getting angry. Who should we be mad at, John for prefering a religon less world, or Cee Lo, for wanting a world with religon and understanding and acceptance of each religon? No one damn it's just a song two men are singing who just want peace in the world. I know it's hard to think of Cee Lo's version, but it's not if you think about it as part of that person's culture. Think about it. Open up your mind b4 you start spewing shit.

Re: zaazee – First of all Lennon was a hippie looser with no real talent. It's astounding how people even give a shit about him. But then again hippies stick with their own, ’cause you know they love everybody! *Snort* Cee Lo obviously has respect for religion unlike Lennon who just tried to shove butterflies and marijuana down our throats. Also Cee Lo's vocal ability is WAY out of John's league! I have deep respect for Cee Lo for doing this.

  31. 31

As Lennon's idealism left out the fact that he was OK with leaving his wife and child in the dust for another woman to the extent that his bandmate wrote a song about the devastation he wrought (Hey Jude), I'm inclined to say "GO CEE-LO!"

  32. 32

Re: TheFemmeFatale – Lennon no talent you say? You're fucking kidding me right? Let me guess, you are a 14 year old girl who thinks "Like OMG, Britney is the bestest-most-awesome-ist singer girl EVER!" *eyes rolling* Your just sad and Cee Lo is an ass for changing such iconic lyrics. If he wanted to sing a song about "all religions too" then he should have written his OWN!

  33. 33

Only people with limited intelligence could misconstrue that lyric.

  34. 34

If all religion is true the all religion is false anyway. If he doesn't agree with the message of the song then why sing it? If he wants to sing a pro-religion song he should write one himself instead of butchering a classic.

  35. 35

who cares. If it wasn't a John Lennon song nobody would care.

  36. 36

Re: WearieRabbit – Very true. And it's also the most played, most pretentious one that people cite when they want to seem meaningful and deep. In reality, it's not even his best. But meh.

  37. 37

oh for goodness sake!! he changed a couple of words, he didnt shoot anyone! get over it people! jeez

  38. 38

  39. 39

Re: ElleFromVan – Have You heard his voice? There is NOTHING remarkable about it! Just because he had certain views doesn't make him a good singer! But Cee Lo on the other hand has been compared to James Brown? Do you know who that is? Of course you don't ’cause he didn't wear flowers in his hear. Oh and bringing Britney into this, really? How is that even relevant? But honestly, I would rather that hilbilly than that overrated looser!

  40. 40

Re: TheFemmeFatale – Forgive the typos; I'm writing this on an iPad.

  41. 41

I can't believe people are actually getting mad about this. It's not like the lyrics are officially changed people.

  42. 42

Re: TheFemmeFatale – Cee Lo compared to James Brown for what "Fuck You" oh sorry "Forget You" yeah, that song is gonna be covered 50 years from now. When Mr. Green has contributed as much to music as John Lennon and The Beatles then you will have a point but that is about as plausible as Britney winning an oscar….oops sorry for bringing up the hillbilly again. Dissing John Lennon and The Beatles, wow, you and Cee Lo deserve each other.

  43. 43

Re: ElleFromVan – He's been compared to Brown because of his voice! All shit aside cand you honestly say Lennon is a good singer? Because his vocal range is probably the same as Britney! Cee Lo will hardly be forgotten, I don't think anyone can claim that they haven't heard "Crazy". Seriously do you even know anything about music? Lennon's lack of talent wasn't the only ridiculous thing about him, have you ever read about him? He was a cheater, how slept with yoko in his wife's bed. But then again he also cheated on Yoko. Oh and there's more he tried to strangle his mistriss…..

  44. 44

Re: ElleFromVan – Oh and Britney can't win an Oscar as she's a singer. But I'm sure you'll be OVERJOYED to hear that she actually has won a Grammy. Not that I care much, but I sure as hell would pick her over him any day. You see, ’cause I'm a good person I don't support druggies who complain about life and diss other peoples beliefs. Not to mention cheaters who doesn't know real values of marriage. Oh and would-have-been murders.

  45. 45

C-Lo and Christina make a perfect fat midget couple. They could win a Halloween contest in their normal clothes.

  46. 46

cee lo doesn't have the talent that john lennon did. no one has the right to change someone elses lyrics. in this case, he doesn't have the talent that might give him the right. but the biggest reason is because imagine isn't about people have the right to believe what they want to believe…it is about how religion especially has caused more havoc because one religion thinks it is the RIGHT religion and EVERYONE should believe that religion. if cee lo doesn't understand that, he needs to write his own song that says what he wants it to say or not do anything (preferably the latter). from his remarks it's obvious he doesn't have the necessary education (even though he has the cool long coat) to write his own thoughts.
