Genius? Don't Apply To Be A Cop In Connecticut!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooLegal Matters

So get this!

A man in Connecticut had a simple dream — to become a cop. But unfortunately for him, he's too smart! Sorry buddy, you're just too—wait, what!?! Seriously?? Really??

According to Robert Jordan, he was rejected from the badge because he tested too high on his intelligence test. …huh?

He sued for discrimination, but he lost after the court ruled "the same standards were applied to him as everyone else."

He says:

This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class. I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else.

But according to the police, those with too high an IQ could easily become bored after pricey training and leave.

Sooo basically, if you're living in New London for sure (and wherever else this is practiced), don't plan on talking advanced quantum physics with the next cop who pulls you over…

    This story is from 1999!

This is basically what's wrong with our society today. We emphasize vapid and fleeting qualities like beauty and wealth while mocking intelligence and education. What a sad state of affairs when someone is too smart to become a cop.

Not surprised by this. The LAPD only requires a GED to apply. Basically, law enforcement feels we should put guns in the hands of idiots!

  5. 5

Apparently the people that apply to write for this site run into the same discrimination…

Re: KarrieBelle – Close. They are just much easier controlled and brainwashed. Like the military.

Re: KarrieBelle – Having a GED is no different than having a high school diploma. Theres hundreds of legitimate reasons why someone would be forced to drop out of school. Having a piece of paper does not prove your intelligence. It just proves you completed something. I dropped out but I also make 150k a year and have a borderline genius IQ. Curse me for being an "idiot"! I don't need to use proper grammar and big words to appear smart. Now I think im going to go fire one of my "college educated" employees solely because you annoyed me. Sucks for him.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? I'm going to go with a big fat no. This is a highly studied thing in the state and what it comes down to is over the years the state noticed that a large percentage of people over a certain IQ were just using the police academy to learn more, and then dropping out before actually being a cop. This was costing the state a large amount of money. Therefore they put a top cap on the IQ exam (it already has a bottom cap) that way they could hire the people most likely to actually become police officers.

Why is this surprising? Army, police etc all want people who will easily assimilate into a team mentality. Obvious.

  12. 12

Oh please. Every state is different.. my brother-in-law is a police officer AND in Mensa.

Re: NookiesWA – Riiiight, that's why you're constantly on here commenting. How cute. Did you know I'm the fourth Middleton sibling?

  14. 14

Re: WhyCantILeaveComments – I sit in my office doing nothing a good 50% of the time. I only check this site once a day and make about 5 post so if that qualifies as "constant" then uhh yeah you're a retard.

  15. 15

I hate to say this, but only in America!

Re: NookiesWA – anyone that has to brag about how much they make/how smart they are/whatever is obviously troubled.

  17. 17

Re: efitz86 – Anybody who generalizes people that don't have diplomas or college degrees and thinks they are inferior intelligence wise is not only an idiot but troubled. Failed rationalization and logic good sir, just like the idiot with the failed comeback before you
