The Oscars Could Move!

Oh no!!

It looks like the Academy is looking around to see if there's another venue in Los Angeles to better fit their needs.

And we're not sure we like this!!

They're currently nestled in the beautiful Kodak Theatre — adding even more MAGIC and SPARKLE to Hollywood Boulevard.

And while they're technically under contract to remain with Kodak for 20 years, there's a clause that allows them to "explore." But we don't want them to!

Take the Nokia Theatre for example. Sure, it's larger and newer, but does it have the same class and grandeur that the Oscars deserve?? We don't know..

But a rep for the Academy insists they're only exercising the option to see what happens:

Our plan right now is to exercise this and then see what happens, what goes on. We’re open. Personally, I love the Kodak. I’ll say that until I’m blue in the face. I’ve been there since the very beginning. But in the next year the Kodak and others will come to us and the [Academy] board will make a decision at some point.

Of course, it all comes down to business and while the Kodak might be the best fit quality wise, a venue like Nokia could seat more people…

We're still not sure about this, but what do U think?

Oscar attendees are members of the Academy and their guests. They're not permitted to sell their tickets so the assertion that the "Nokia could sell more tickets" is way off-base.

Re: aeioapfRe: aeioapf – Actually, the Oscars do technically sell extra seats to seat holders. These are random schmoes. Sometimes they're given free, other times they're sold.

I loved taking the tour of the Kodak, but I was surprised at how run down the autitorium is. I sat in the front row and thought how terrible it would be to sit there for HOURS. I'm okay with them exploring, but there is SOMETHING special about the Kodak. Walking in and seeing all that entertainment history was so special to me.

HERE , HERE ! GO for it!!! It's time for a change, It needs to be more hip and fun like the Globes. The Oscars have gotten so long and tired, it needs new life! We want to see the stars having fun at tables drinking! Not sitting in rows of stuffy chairs waiting for four hours to go by. CHANGE is good!

I was just about to point out that the mispelling totally changed the meaning of his post. I didn't know that Perez wanted to see the back of the Oscars in L.A. A very bold move.
