russell brand and katy perry divorce pisses off hindu community

We're right there with ya, Hindu community! This SUCKS!

Last week, we were VERY sad to hear that Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry due to irreconcilable differences.

Then, we learned that Katy actually asked Russell to file for divorce instead of her…so she wouldn't piss off her evangelical Christian parents.

We're not sure exactly how her parents took it, but we know a group of people who are NOT taking the divorce well - the Hindus!

Here's what Hindu statesman Rajan Zed had to say about it:

"They should have taken marriage more seriously as it is a sacred rite in Hinduism."

"In Hinduism, marriage is the most important sacrament. The married couple is looked upon as a complete module for worship and participation in cultural and social acts."

"If celebrities opt for a Hindu wedding, they should be prepared to adhere to the commitment, devotion, responsibility, sanctity and morals, which are attached to it."

"There are reasons why Hindus, as a group, have one of the lowest divorce rates in the world."

We agree that marriage should be taken seriously, but we truly believe they thought they'd be spending the rest of their lives together when they got married! Unfortunately, things don't always work out as planned.

What do U think? Does the Hindu community have the right to be pissed at Russell and Katy???

What? Is one of them Hindu or something? How random… Why is this a story?

  2. 2

So Kim and Kris get divorced and you almost go into cardiac arrest…but Katy and Russell divorce and you say "things don't always work out as planned."… interesting

  3. 3

Re: lufflyness – I believe they got married in a Hindu ceremony in India.

  4. 4

everyone wants a wedding noone wants the marraige..

yes i think the hindus have a point …

  5. 5

Shut Up Hindi community…it has NOTHING to do with you, it's a private matter between Katy and Russell.

  6. 6

They're really just people, Perez…. People get divorces. People get mad at people for getting divorced. I mean…no matter what, this is all just a part of their personal lives. I don't see any reason to get your underwear in a twist over this. Instead, you should be worried about the fact that LMFAO is insanely popular….or that thousands of people are graduating from undergraduate and graduate programs every year, only to find that they can only get jobs that don't even require applicants to be high school graduates. Who cares if certain members of the Hindu community are mad at Katy Perry and Russell Brand? They're very wealthy adults. They can take care of themselves.

First off, I am not Hindu. However, whatever the religion, (they did get married in a Hindu ceremony, hence the Hindu backlash) divorce is a slap in the face to commitment, promises, not to mention ALL of the individuals that witnessed your PROMISE to the world that you would make it work. (Look at Kim K.) When you PROMISE something PUBLICLY, you need to stand by your commitment. It is the same as if you are under oath. Lying under oath….isn't that a crime? Pity that lying "til death do us part" isn't a crime as well.

    Lame quitters.

  9. 9

People should have to be together for a certain amount of time before they are allowed to apply for a marriage license. No less than 5 years I reckon.

  10. 10

Well they shouldn't have gotten married so soon into their relationship. I truly believe you need to live with someone for AT LEAST a year to know you'll be able to make a marriage work.

  11. 11

I would be annoyed if my religion was used as a crazy theme in a fleeting celebrity marriage. Maybe it wouldn't have been so offensive to him if the marriage had lasted longer than 14 months.

  12. 12

why get married if it's just about a fun party (aka wedding). marriage is not easy, folks!

  13. 13

On a serious note..Why does California even allow celebs a marriage license…ffs

  14. 14

Heck Yes!….Not a very serious marriage was it…..maybe katy can party with kim kardasian..

  15. 15

It was the Christian (Katy) that ruined their marriage! Damn Christians… no respect for marriage and commitment.
Re: aly1991 – Do you really think Perez would bad-mouth his BFF Katy? Other sites are reporting the real story (partying, cocaine, drinking, hanging out with Lindsay Lohan) while Perez is posting only nice things.

  16. 16

We have become so desensitized to divorces in the celebrity world, we actually EXPECT it to happen - once the infatuation wears off. KP & RB's wedding was ONE BIG SHOW - an extravagant wedding, big waste of money - that made THEM money…that's all it really was about. As for the Hindu Community being offended, welcome to Hollywood. Celebrities should stick to Vegas weddings.

  17. 17

Re: mashitty – I totally agree with you - why in the world did they choose a a sacred Hindu ceremony? Let me see…makes great pics!! It's different!! It will make a fantastic party!! And yet, we are expected to believe that she made RB file for divorce first, so as NOT to offend her Christian parents? Right.

  18. 18

Who cares. Not sure why perez gets so emotionally involved in other peoples relationship! How can you be sad about this! People get divorced all the time. Celebrities who travel the world and are not together to much probably get divorced alot. Marriage is really not that serious of a thing. It is just a legal contract that you have certain legal rights. The rest is bs.

  19. 19

Well, if they're going to be pissed, I think it would/should be more about the fact that Katy and Russell used the Hindu culture and faith more as a fashion statement for their wedding rather than because they actually believe and follow the religion/faith. Like it seemed all cool and "spiritual" to them for the purpose of their wedding ceremony, but they don't really take it seriously. Either live the faith or don't, but don't use aspects of it that are just convenient or entertaining for you at the moment.

  20. 20

The Hindu's have a point here. The couple insisted on a Hindu wedding but a quickie marriage and divorce. Perhaps they did not plan to divorce so quickly, but did they have a plan for dealing with their differences in lifestyle and location? Why marry someone that has sobered up if you insist on partying? Marriage is not just playing house, it is a serious commitment and sacrifice and the Hindu's have every right to feel taken advantage by a couple that probably just saw the Hindu ceremony as cute or glamorous and did not look ahead to the future and how the marriage would take shape.

  21. 21

    Re: aly1991 – completely agree!

  22. 22

Re: aly1991 – Well our taxpaying money wasn't put into a 8 week marriage. Also they were married for almost 2 years, yeah so they could have tried but at least its longer than 8 weeks

  23. 23

If they had a hindu wedding then yes they do, since they wanted to go the hindu route and didnt take the full customs into consideration. Yes things dont always work out, but I am sure hindu people have the problems western people have and have the same personality traits as the rest of the world but they make a concerted effort to work it out. So yes they do have a right to be mad if they had a hindu wedding.

  24. 24

More celebrities imposing themselves on other cultures because it is the trend of the day, with absolutely no understanding or sensitivity. As always, it is all about them. Maybe foreign countries should ban these idiots from intruding on and making a mockery of sacred traditions and send them to the Elvis chapel in Vegas where they belong.

  25. 25

2 things: Just because someone says their "hindu" because it's trendy doesn't mean they are AND Perez what is up with your new interface? I should not have to open two new pages to read your post and read the comments. Annoying to say the least

  26. 26

Celebrities shouldn't be able to be married. Not gay people.

  27. 27

It wasn't a hindu ceremony, it was non-demoninational. I was there. You don't know what you are talking about.

  28. 28

I agree with the taking advantage of the Hindu religion as a fashion statement people. Why would you take those vows when you don't repsect or understand the culture?

  29. 29

    Re: infanity
    non-denominational

  30. 30

They clearly don't give a fuck about Hinduism and probably only had a Hindu ceremony because it was in.

  31. 31

Re: Kim_NZ – I totally agree! And I don't know why I care, but I'm disappointed. They should've tried to work it out.

  32. 32

Get over yourself Rajan Zed. One of the reasons Hindus have a low divorce rate is because of the stigma attached to divorce in India and Indian culture around the world. Unfortunately there are countless Indians that feel stuck in unhappy or abusive marriages because of pressure from family and society. Sadly divorced women are especially stigmatized and find it hard to remarry.

  33. 33

Yes, they have the right to be pissed. How long were they married, a year? That's not long enough to say you tried. The first years of marriage are hard! I was miserable most of my first 7 years of marriage. Now, people envy our marriage! We have a strong and very happy marriage because we never gave up on trying to make us work. You have to stay committed and you have to make sacrifices and compromises, and if you do and you succeed, you'll have the greatest gift in the world! I am so very thankful I never gave up because I wanted to so many times.

  34. 34

Whether or not their marriage lasted shouldn't be the concern of any religious organization. I understand why the statement was made, but they made vows and if they discovered that they weren't right for one another (as many married couples do, sadly) then it is their business and theirs alone. I can only hope that they can part amicably and retain some sort of friendship because they did seem great together.

  35. 35

Sad about this I thought they made a good couple….but too immature obviously, she is soo much more better looking he s a dick im english I know ! xx
