This movie just keeps getting more and more complicated.
Due to budget and casting concerns, Warner Bros. has halted production on Akira.
This marks the third time Akira has "died" but WB doesn't seem to want to quit on the project.
The budget started out at $180 million but was halved. Now, producers are scratching and clawing to keep it around $60 to $70 million.
Akira has some big names attached to it, including Garrett Hedlund as the star and KStew in talks as well.
Other headliners include Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman, and Ken Watanabe.
Producers will sit down with helmer Jaume Collet-Serra as the production stalls. If nothing gets resolved, Akira will be entirely donezo.
So is this the end of Akira?
Or will Neo Tokyo turn into New Manhatten for the live action adaptation?
